Workers Protest Police Recruitment, Shut Down PSC Headquarters by Omooba77: 3:40pm On Jan 27, 2022 |
The Police Service Commission workers have shut down the PSC headquarters, Abuja, over the reported takeover of the ongoing recruitment of 10,000 constables by the force headquarters. The workers forced the Permanent Secretary, William Alo, and directors out of their offices as they declared a three-day warning strike with effect from today. The staff are protesting the alleged takeover of the ongoing constables recruitment exercise, lack of staff promotion and training by the management. The PUNCH had exclusively reported that the workers declared a showdown with the commission management led by Musiliu Smith, a retired Inspector-General of Police, whom they accused of surrendering the PSC constitutional mandate to the police. To hell with their strike! ■Imagine if ministry of defence staff are the ones to recruit military officers and not the Nigeria Army ■Imagine if the staff of the NSA office are responsible for recruitment into DSS and NIA, Why doing that to the police? No wonder the police is beyond repairs and devoid of the right people for police job. PSC is just one agency that needs to be scrapped ASAP Civilians responsible for police recruitment! Only in Nigeria 28 Likes 2 Shares |

Aboks:A "bloody civilian" during the time of peace but an abled soldier during the time of war. No difference between a man in khaki and another in suit, just the era they find themselves. Answer me one question, which military commissioned Shekau or ISWAP/Boko Haram fighters that is disgracing Nigerian soldiers at Borno? Hope you get where I am driving at. It is just the era. Nigerian military spread that "bloody civilian" stigma to kill the morale of the civilians because they know there is no difference between them and the civilian, just that one (they) have access to Assault rifles and the other (Civilians) don't at the moment. 14 Likes 2 Shares |

They don collect money from applicants for slot placement. So they are afraid that their candidates may ask for a refund, hence, the protest. 11 Likes |

Zandena: You know what you're doing. Keep dribbling around. There is something called the constitution. And the constitution vests the power to recruit new constables into the police force on this agency. This has been certified by the court of law previously. What the Buhari regime did, was to remove the former head of the police service commission and replace him with Mr Smith, an 'Oh Yes' man to do their biddings.. Its not the responsibility of the Force headquarters to directly recruit. It's the responsibility of The Police service commission. That's what the constitution says.. The Force headquarters only hyjacked the process of recruiting new service men into The Police Force since the inception of the Buhari regime. Obviously, this is mainly to flood the whole process with northerners as they are doing in other agencies. Nothing else! These protesting workers know. Over ten thousand were recruited this way into the police force last time, under the last northern IGP. Chronic nepotism in this regime has gone so deep and as become so dangerous that I'm starting to think that there is nothing that can be done to bring a real sense of fairness and equity, other than to disband this country. 4 Likes |

Zandena: The Police Service Commission is very similar to the Civil Service Commission, and guess what? They are mandated to handle recruitment. The initial stage (screening based on credentials and "Federal Character" and other considerations that may apply for different cadres) is handled by the PSC. The police handle training and final selection. |
