Kudos to those who brought this up. The problem here are the three major languages we have in this country. They prioritize their language so high in the name of English is not our mother tongue. Yoruba is even worse. Kids graduating from primary to secondary school can't speak English yet they carry canopy and throw a party for graduation party. Followed by Hausa. Those ones will teach both maths and English in Hausa. Who dey do us I nor know 2 Likes |

donforeign:I have people there. One of the most difficult borders to enter in the world and this Covid thing has made them paranoid. Their laws and control has become almost draconian. I had love for that country, but following their news gave me a serious brain reset. Canada is also crazy, but better. |

Shokoloko: Do you actually mean that majority of Nairalanders speak bad English? I don't accept it if your answer is a 'yes'. By the way, you probably contribute to the bad English. Not ending your first sentence with a full stop is bad English! |

wiseoneking:Well sir, you are right, Britain was the last powerful and largest empire, until the spread of the industrial revolution (late IR) of the 19th century, but to say that they had firm control over China is an anomaly here, as there were no vestiges of the Britain influence here, yes they borrowed some ideas from the west, but they were not under total control of Britain yes they had very close ties at some point, Immense involvement at hong Kong, but we can say the romans and an involvement with the Chinese, and little imperialism sino-japanese..... |

Paperbag: The reason for your comment might be that you might not understand what exploitative means cos I don't see what the nigerian economy or exchange got to do with exploitation. Exploitative means "making use of a situation or treating others unfairly in order to gain an advantage, benefit or profit". The screenshot below will help put things in context

Mowoe: I agree with you on this. Those that make 8.0 band score shouldn't be taking that test again when it expires. However, you forgot to add that the IELTS is also used to control migration to their country codedly apart from the financial gains. 2 Likes |
