That why we were comparing Lagos since 1999.

Wasn't it you that asked the comparison question about before 1999? I never did. You did.

I said since 1999 (even before) Lagos has (due to no magic of any) racked up several advantages that puts it ahead of virtually all Nigerian states from the word go.

Is this even debatable?
I think you have a comprehension problem.

I said Lagos State hosted the FCT .
You said Lagos State has natural success factors and my question was why that success did not manifest before 1999 so do not lie or misrepresent my words.
The simple explanation is that Lagos has had better more focussed governance since 1999 than previously

Do your own research

Lagos City was the Former Federal Capital>even before states were created .

The rest of the State was part of the Western Region until 1967
Lagos City is not the only city that shares a name with its state
There are many others
Ondo
Oyo
Enugu
Sokoto
Kaduna
Bauchi
Kano
Katsina.

There's no way to confirm your assertion.

To do so, one has to control for the economic advantages Lagos has which most states lack. And that's a tricky one.

Again what Nigerian states were better than Lagos before 1999 (safe for maybe Kano)?

Well we know that IGR in 1999 was 500 million a month
So clearly the IGR opportunities were not optimized.
Optimizing IGR has been a game changer.

You make it sound as if Economic advantages are something to be ashamed of? What is your point> Every state has advantages but they have not been optimized
From that same 1999 Delta State enjoyed advantages in terms of Derivation ditto Akwa Ibom and Rivers .What do they have to show

AKpabio and Ibibio cannot by any stretch be described as visionary
The money that the foreign governments recovered from Ibori could easily have delivered a seaport to rival Lagos

Same in Akwa Ibom where Akpabio decided a stadium was the best thing he could give his people

It is the other way round, they actually made Tinubu.
If as a Leader, you assemble m0r0ns, they will serve you nonsense and ruin your govt.
But if you want to succeed, you pick the best brains around.
People like Fashola, PYO, etc are the best brains around and they made Tinubu's Govt.
If not for them, Tinubu would have failed and not be who he is today

Tinubu is the game changer for Lagos state. He set the path that all others followed. He is the illuminator and the master planner of modern Lagos.

He moved the state internal revenue from the monthly N600million in 1999 to the over N20billion that it is today. In fact, when Tinubu re-positioned Lagos state board on internal revenue to LIRS, the Obasanjo government quickly copied the template and changed Federal board of inland revenue to FIRS.

His revenue, education, transport, health, waste management and traffic management policies have been copied by so many states all over the country and even the Federal government. That Lagos is now the 5th largest economy in Africa is to his credit.

Kadoso, hype all you want. Sing all the praises that you can. Magnify a fellow mortal all you want. Exalt Tinubu with all your might; but take it, that it has not been given to Tinubu to be president of anywhere. The POWER that controls things have not endorsed him. If the LORD does not build a city, the watchers watch in vain.

Advantages are not be ashamed of BUT they should be mentioned so that we don't get ahead of ourselves.

Again you have failed to mention states that were inherently 'better' than Lagos before 1999.

Most oil companies (well virtually all reasonably sized firms) in Nigeria have always had their HQ in Lagos. Does that count for nought?

By the way, for all their sins, Ibori & Akpabio may not be saints but do you realize that seaports are an exclusive list item in Nigeria?

Do you think I can go ahead to site a seaport as I choose without Oga FGN? I suppose not. Nigeria is a low Manufacturing country with huge imports.
Surely a state that 'ushers' in a huge % of such imports has to have better opportunities economically than other states. No?

I am not trifling what you purport the likes of Tinbus have done in Lagos, I'm just saying let's not get ahead of ourselves. There's a long way to go.

Babatunde Raji fashola is the best ever ..performed wonderfully in all sectors... Infrastructure, roads education and health. The first governor to start fixing Federal government roads. ..ambode and this pointus sanwo olu have struggled to fit in his shoes..but they lack his will
, Supervision and wisdom..I will love to see Fashola rule Nigeria in my lifetime.

Who is getting ahead of themselves and how? Are you wanting to practise the phrase? How does that come into anything I have said thus far?
So what if Seaports are on exclusive List What is the relevance of that ? Is there not a port almost complete in Lekki? A private venture?
Has PDP not been in control at the centre. The reality is that there has been no political will or vision to deliver that in the 16 years that PDP controlled Abuja.
Are refineries also on the exclusive list ? Did Amaechi as governor not have enough money to deliver a refinery playing those peculiar "advantages" > Advantages like gas, crude oil. What industry have any of those governors established to take advantage of their own "ADVANTAGES"?
Where is the Fishing industry? Where is the boat building industry?

The Niger Delta should even be better off than Lagos considering the huge oil prices they enjoyed under PDP

No leader has really achieved any praise worthy feat requiring special praise in Nigeria. That why I said get ahead of ourselves.

It seems you're going into politics. Unfortunately I won't as I am no politician.

Finally, Lagos maybe 'better' than most Nigerian states (I'm in Lagos) but it's hardly a special place.
In many respects it's a terrible place. Anyone who thinks Lagos has 'arrived' as a basis to laud his/her leadership skills has limited his/her growth & has probably deceived many.

Cheers.

I suggest you refresh your understanding of the phrase
"getting ahead of oneself"
Praiseworthiness is in the gift of the praise giver.
You are entitled to withhold your praise but remember

You have only ONE PRAISE

Many others have different schemas from yous.

Yorubas will praise Awolowo for eternity and there is nothing you can do to change that.
There are many who praise Tinubu whether he deserves it or not I certainly acknowledge his impact relative to what went before him and in the context of societal expectation. I agree that we need to upgrade expectation but everything in life is contextual. and that is how one must appraise Tinubu; with contemporaneous contextual knowledge
Tinubu was the first governor after the military and expectation was very low. In comparison to his peers like Ibori, Duke, Alamiesiegha. Odili ,Igbinedion who had similar or even more resources when you consider that Obasanjo withheld allocations. He exceeded the expectations of the voters and is perhaps the only one with a long term perspective politically.
Whatever is wrong with Tinubu is the same thing doing us collectively .So we need to raise our game if we want better leaders
Today is another context another time and perhaps a different set of qualities are needed but part of the contextuality is the psychology of Nigeria today

Exactly!! is it easy to have worked for American companies- Arthur Andersen, Deloitte, GTE Services Corporation and to be an executive of Mobil Oil?

Lagos is by far more beautiful than this today. The British only developed Lagos Island, Yorubas since the days of Awolowo developed the maintained, Lekki, Ajah etc. We moved our Lagos to the 5th largest economy in Africa and that is why Igbo folks like you want to die over Lagos.

It is not true that Lagos is by far more beautiful than when the British handed her over.... perhaps, you could say development has spread further away from the Island now.

If anyone is to talk of a structure that exists in Lagos, which every governor seems to be following, then that structure was created by the British...not Tinubu or anyone.

Certainly, Fashola outperformed all the other three, in terms of his administration's overall contribution to enhancing Lagos.

Even as Works and Housing Minister, Fashola has overseen the construction of over 900km of roads across all geopolitical zones and states in the country.

Imagine the whole idea around the Presidential Infrastructure Tax Initiative.. absolute brilliance!...you'd know it is his brainchild. That idea gave birth to Apapa-Oshodi-Oworonshoki Highway, Bonny-Bodo Bridge and several others.

You wouldn't hear that he's being linked to multibillon# properties or imposing relatives on the populace as Commissioner, Senator etc. He is way more disciplined, charismatic and focused.

I just don't like Tinubu's style at all....As governor, he created LASTMA and his wife's sister (Lola Akande) served on its board; the same sister in-law of his was a Commissioner under Ambode, and now under Sanwo-olu...his wife is in the Senate...his daughter is Iyaloja...he also installed Oyetola, his cousin, as governor of his state, Osun.

That is nonsense! For me, that is destructive greed and utterly disrespectful of the sensibilities of others.

Sure. It's my opinion.

Everyone has theirs that's why we converse.
However if we are indeed sincere, Nigeria (all over obviously with different intensity) has progressively worsened in terms of welfare of [the Majority] of it's citizenry. Is this also my opinion or this is a fact?
Consequently anyone (not solely but collectively) who has been an active part of the political class over this period(s) would not reasonably be proud of any 'feats' as there aren't many.

O well I guess I may be the 'only' one seeing things bad.

Cheers.
