The father, son and holy spirit refers to the persons of God. Imagine a single source of light, in this single source of light there are three distinct colors of ray. The single light source is liken to the being but the ray is liken to the persons. When person is used concerning the Trinity it doesn't refer to form or appearance but center of consciousness. Whereas the rays are different in colors but they are same light source. God doesn't have a source, but he is a being that is self existent but this being has three separate centre of consciousness, hence he exist in three persons each person relates with each other, which is God actually relating withing himself. The father, son and holy spirit is the way each person relates with each other. The only begotten son is called so, because he relates with the first person as a son would to a father, the holy spirit called so because he acts as the power of God, the Father is the initiator and authority of God. Our body works distinctly too, your hand is recognized as your hand by your brain, your legs is identified as your legs etc This is because each member of your body has different roles and relations with each other. So Jesus is called the son of God because of his relationship with the father which is base on his person but he is God as to his being. As a person he is the Son of God, the word but as to his being or essence he is same God as the father and the spirit. A man can be a father, he is a human as to his being but as for his relationship he is a father. So father, son are strictly relationship terms. 2 Likes |

Another way to look at this, is to consider that God is called love, and truth. If God is love and truth, there must be a giver, and a receiver and one who attest to that love as true. The father gives love, and the Son is the receiver and center of that love and the holy spirit is the attestation to that love, this can only be possible only if God exist in three distinct persons or center of consciousness. Hence Jesus testimony is true because the father who is another person attest to Jesus testimony and he also said the holy spirit will bear witness of it, this can only be true only if God is actually a Trinity of persons. |

In the book of Isaiah 46:5 God says To whom will you liken me and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be alike? Meaning you cannot compare God with anything that is why in Islam its a very big sin to compare God with anything. In the book of luke 4: 41 demons were coming out of many, shouting and saying, “You are the Son of God! ” But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew he was the Messiah. Meaning Jesus reject people calling him son of God when he is alive because he is only messiah not son Of God. In the book of Mathew 8:11 Jesus refers himself as the son of man. In the book of john 14:28 You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.
