Well, according to the constitution, States are to collect VAT but for some weird reasons, FIRS has been the one collecting it.. Wike has the Southern senators to thank for stalling the attempt by FIRS to to ammend its Act.

Which part of the constitution

The constitution is silent on vat issue.I am even surprised that the court has been quiet on the matter...
The Constitution is not silent on VAT issue.

Do you agree sales/consumption tax is not on the Exclusive List?

I doubt the constitution states the State should collect it.

It's there in the constitution.. lawyers can help out.
That's infact the reason Rivers state took the VAT issue to court up to Supreme court level with the suit now joined by Lagos, Ogun and some others.

Imagine paying a State that generates nothing in revenue almost equal, if not more than what states like Rivers, Lagos and co. are getting.. who would be happy with such? they are using quota system too to share money from South for North's enjoyment.

Have you seen the game the FG is playing on this VAT issue? The supreme court won't give a judgement and if they do not give judgement on the case within a certain period of time, status quo will remain.

And you know what that means

A judge in the Appeal Court order for status quo to remain.

But why is the court acting this way in a very important issue like this?

Things like this is not helping Nigeria.

If the Court finally rule in favour of Rivers. Then South East will suffer the most. They presently don't generate a Kobo in both VAT and internally generated revenue. They are the only Region that contribute ZERO to Nigerian Economy.

The Supreme court can't go against the constitution that created it and made it the apex court in the land, same way the powers that be don't want VAT collection to go to States... So right now, it's stalemate.

The North's overbearing attitude is what made people remember VAT.. just like they consume electricity free of charge while discos kill people with estimated billing in the South. The injustice is just too much.

How does this help Nigeria

Supreme Court is rather helping the East. Cause the East is the major beneficiary of the status quo, as regards VAT.

Let’s just keep pressing, the Abokiis can not fight against change forever, 8 years ago , nobody would have believed we would have technology being used in our elections, but we have it today as in electronic transmission of result. Soon a time will come when the south will have every thing in it’s Favour and it will be left for the Abokiis to catch up or become irrelevant....,,fact

Now, you are talking because the FG can never I repeat NEVER win the case.

So, the FG should sit with the States and try to resolve it...perhaps give the leading States some buffer.

Basically, the Constitution is silent on VAT as it concerns the FG taking same. And it is believed that any item not found on the "exclusive" list is presumed to be acted upon by states.

My brother, the supreme court will never give a divisive judgment,it will rather give a judgment that will foster national unity.this delay is suspicious and unprecedented. You should know where judgment will swing

Don't forget that the SC is not ruling on the judgement proper....

The case is still under Appeal.....the RVSG wants an injunction disallowed.
