The long wait for a not guaranteed admission is the issue with masters.

Have you reached out to the schools international admissions. If not, do so.

There is no guarantees as it comes to visa approvals either as a masters applicant or a PGD. Approval is dependent on your documentation packaging, convincing sop and financial availability (avoid lump sums). Therefore nobody can authoritatively give you an answer to your question.

A Masters degree program is the ideal degree for you considering you finished with a result that can get you a Masters admission in Canada.. But at the same time you can as well go for a PGD, but I will advise you go for a PGD in Civil Engineering considering that was your first degree program and also you have years of working experience in that field.. Changing to a different field at this time will be difficult to convince the Visa officer after so many years of experience in a particular field, except you have very convincing reasons on why you wanna switch over to project management...

NSCC don't give refund for anything. Even if an applicant defers his admission, tuition deposit is still not transferable to the new intake. Applicant needs to pay another tuition deposit for deferment.

We actually have civil engineers in project supervisory roles workin on projects in construction companies,and they are designated as project managers (PMs). Thats why I considered the PG project management course as a career progression.

Also A friend told me Canadian schools don’t consider PhD for international students except I enrol for masters. How true is this my people?

First, your friend doesn't know anything about PhD admission, and probably any admission and visa, in Canada. You will be highly qualified and competitive for a PhD if you have a first class again. Why?

1. You have done 2 masters, which means a lot of graduate coursework and experience. Going back for a research masters shows you are highly interested in a PhD.

2. Your masters are in two different schools and country. A lot of Supervisors like people with more international experience. If you get a first class again, it will you can study and excel anywhere.

Now to your question about if you can apply now. You may not be able to apply now. Most PhD admission is for Sepember and application deadline is around January and February. Most PhD admission in Canada will also require that you have supervisor before you apply. Applying without a supervisor, when it is required, is gambling. You won't have completed your program by September 2022 and you dont have a supervisor now. So I won't advise you to apply now. However, I can give you a plan to follow that will likely guarantee your admission and student visa for September 2023. Write it down if you want to and others might add to or correct it.

1. Attend more conferences, volunteer more (longer duration is better), organizer or lead student union in your department or school, be a Teaching or Research Assisant, and publish some conferennce or journal articles if you can. These will help your CV or resume immensely.

2. Start supervisor search around June 2022. You will have to check all the profile of professors in each school that have your PhD program. Email those that are doing research in your current and preferred area of interest. Supervisors Iike student that have done something in their field before. If your current SA supervisor come know and can recommend you to professors in Canada, that's even golden. Most professors take their network very serious. They act like cult, research cult, and are more likely to accept you because of their network recommendation. Some will go as far as find you another supervisor if they don't have space at that moment.

3. Start saving money, but don't apply to schools that offer no full PhD scholarship. If you get another first class, you are highly qualified for a full PhD scholarship. Avoid schools that does not offer it. PhD is a lot of sacrifice of time and potential salary. Except you are going for something like computer science, which is highly lucrative now, you may end up jobless or struggling to find a good job after graduating. Canadian employers prefer work experience over education, especially after bachelors degree. So, a PhD without a full scholarship is not worth it. Remember to save money from now. With your savings and scholarship, you won't need any sponsor for your visa.

4. Apply for admission after you get supervisor, patiently wait for your admission letters (I belive you will get many if you plan it well), choose your preferred school, and apply for visa around December 2022 to February 2023. You may need to find out your temporary SA option. I think SA offers PR to their masters graduate. This will allow you to stay in SA till you complete your Canada admission and visa while in SA. I know this is an option because I have a friend that immigrated from SA to Canada. He finished his masters there and received their PR. He immigrated to Canada because Canada is better economically and policy wise. Unlike Canada, SA only gave his children, born in SA, PR. 8 think you have to stay 5 or 10 years after PR to become citizen. So I understand if you prefer Canada.

These are the things I can remember for now. However, I know you may likely not do anything about them. First time nairaland posters or applicants are often undecided nor understand the resiliency required for Canada admission, visa, or immigration. I hope you and others from it sha. My post is also open to corrections and more suggestions. All the best.

Applicant is a 19 year old going for diploma. Applicant will be atleast 21 by graduation. If Applicant work extra two years on 3 years work permit, Applicant will be 23. With education and work experience in Canada, Applicant will be well qualified for provincial nomination.

Do you still doubt it is possible? Maybe I need to introduce you to someone that did it and she is no even reach 23 when she became PR.

Post graduate work permit can only be extended only if at the time of getting your PGWP your passport had some few months left to expire and since you can't be issued a pgwp longer than your passport expiry date , in such a case either you would be told by IRCC to submit a new passport to get your full lenght pgwp or you would be given a pgwp to last you till your passport expires . Then after bringing a new passport your PGWP would be extended to cover the remaining months or years left for your full PGWP.

Don't do it blindly, the reasons in the notes are always much. That they gave just one generic reason might mean four intertwined reasons that needs to be address. I was also refused in my first application and those VOs don't really put it all out except you get your notes.

When did you apply for the notes?
