That's how you would have been raising someone's else son or daughter because of negligence. Reason sometimes DNA test should be conducted immediately to avoid super story in the future.
Only to blame the wife later

The name tags always have color matching the one on the mother even if they were twin there should never be mixup at least not all their names are the same just the surname.
I refuse to consider it a mistake at all.

The ideal practice is to never let anyone take your baby from your hospital room for whatever reason.

You can clean the baby in the mother's room! Anything that needs to be done can be taken care of in the mother's room or in the presence of another family member. Or better still, let everyone (mother and child) wear a barcode around their wrist that identifies them.

In some hospitals, babies are placed in a nursery not with the mother

Twitter stories are lies.

I'm sure it's a lie. A lot of people post false stories on Twitter for engagement calling it "content".

Only people who're not familiar with how Labour rooms look like would believe this nonsense. First of all, how many women will give birth at exactly the same time in the Labour ward?

I've worked in extremely busy labour wards where more than 10 women are very close to giving birth but it's still rare that two babies would come out at the same minute.

Now let's even assume that happens, is it the same midwife/assistant or doctor/assistant pair that would take the two deliveries at the same time?

Now let's even assume the same person cleans or resuscitates (if necessary) the two babies. The person would likely take the APGAR + weight of one and document first before doing for the second. Immediately after that they'll have to give the mother to keep the baby skin to skin/belly to belly and attempt to breastfeed. So the baby won't be away for more than a few minutes.

Now, all these activities happen in the same labour room, in a designated area usually in the line of sight of the mothers in standard labour rooms.

This narrative needs to be killed abeg. Nobody dey switch babies. Healthcare workers as a rule try to be very careful to avoid anything that has legal consequences.

NB: For DNA tests, if a baby is switched, it won't have any of the mother or father's DNA. If it has the mother's DNA but not that of the father, then someone lied.

Whether it is a lie is not for you to say

Is it something that happens? Yes. Has it happened in the past? Yes.

That is all that matters.

If someone came to social media and told us his uncle just found out his three children do not belong to him, you no for come here dey talk say na lie. You would have been calling for the head of the woman.

How many have you personally seen? I've never ever heard of anyone suing any hospital I know because of that.

This switching of babies thing became a popular narrative with the increased adoption of paternity tests. Despite how popular the narrative is, nobody is suing any hospital. What does that tell you?

I wish they didn’t find out now it would have been disaster for both families most especially now that we are hearing government want to be doing DNA tests for free in any government hospitals, A lots of cases like this has ruined many homes and taken a lots of lives hospitals should be careful while handling new Born Babies.

Re: Government Hospital Mistakenly Switches Babies Whose Parents Have Same Surname by NoToPile: 2:25pm On Jan 30, 2022
Loool.

Not common anymore nowadays even in cases of babies wearing the same surname name tags.

This scenerio might only happen with same surnames and besides the mother has already seen the baby and carried the baby she knows which one of the two babies with the same surnames is hers.

The chances of this happening even in a general hospital which is always very busy popping out babies every other minute is very low.

A simple solution in cases of 2 or more babies with the same surnames is to add the name of the mother on the tag of the babies with same surnames.

I have personally never seen anyone who committed paternity fraud either, I only read of it on the internet, does that make the stories lies?

Do you know how much a lawsuit costs? Do you know how passage of time can even affect a lawsuit? Do you know how many people never even bother to check, especially in a country like Nigeria?

Switching of babies thing was a narrative before paternity tests began, it is just you and a few other uninformed people who did not hear of it, but as far back as the 80's and 90's, there were massive reports of baby switching usually for pay. There is even a Nigerian movie that was shot in the 90's about switching babies.

In China, female children were switched for males by hospital staff.

It has been rampant for decades, that you did not know of it because of whatever reason, does not make it a recent occurrence. It has always existed

Sometimes, hospitals Doctors and nurses deliberately do it on pay because somebody needs a boy child.

After negative DNA test, This is the main reason why some women looked confused, when they actually don`t cheat on their man.

Oga keep QUIET!!!

This scenario painted here can only COME UP if after the DNA test, the child does not match QUALITIES of both PARENTS.

This is why a Compulsory DNA test after Test is very important.

I know PROSTITUTES will use this as an Avenue to deny or downplay the Issue of Paternity Fraud. Still,it doesn't change the fact that Cases of Paternity fraud have and will continue to happen until DNA test after Birth is made Mandatory.
If that was the aim, it's dead on arrival. Because the DNA won't match the mother's either if switched at birth. Only poor knowledge of science will make anyone concoct such a story to rubbish paternity test. grin grin

If a baby fails paternity test and the lady is sure she didn't cheat, then next step is to do DNA/maternity test if the child also belongs to her.

The only known condition when a mother's DNA will not match her child's is in very, very rare cases called chimerism. A set of twins fuse in utero and become one person. Her ova/eggs may be DNA of her invisible twin that exists genetically in some organs of her body! Most doctors have probably never even heard of it. It is usually not mentioned in medical education.

Only a few dozen cases exist/are known worldwide. So all these paternity fraudsters can't use it as an excuse.

It's simple, do DNA for father ,mother and child. If it doesn't match with mother then it means it was switched at birth but you can't have DNA match with mother and not father and become confused

Not trying to say that it doesn't happen but I have never seen or read that a DNA test was conducted and the woman accused wasn't guilty.

That's by the way, if the woman is sure that she did not cheat then nothing stops her from doing another DNA test to confirm whether or not the child belongs to her.
