Parrot69: Iwobi should not even be in the SE He hardly plays for his club. Hasn't seen action in a while vefore ADCON. Same with Chukwueze and it showed Iwobi's inclusion in the team is because of his Uncle's influence. He doesn't deserve it. And we can't manage expired products 1 Like 1 Share |

Odunayaw: Not really. With the type of kick-and-rush football we played at AFCON 2019, it was a miracle we reached the semis. In terms of playing pattern, we were beyond poor. We could hardly string three passes in midfield without losing the ball. Ekong blasting long balls to God-knows-where all game long, Simon Moses playing as a second fullback, Iwobi laying one good pass after every twenty-five piss poor anywhere-belle-face passes , Chukwueze pulling off one good dribbling move and then going to sleep for the rest of the game...... The fact that Ighalo won the golden boot and saw the team to the semis with such poor service is a testament to his excellent personal abilities as a striker. Joke apart, I enjoyed Eguavoen's three game winning streak far more than Rohr's eye-scratching, laborious, boring run to the semis. 1 Like |

TheGoodJoe:Once a team loses you will hear people saying ooohh they underrated their opponent, they were overconfident. Hogwash Yet one thing Eguavoen and the players stressed throughout their pressers is that they respect every team and will respect every team. Is it so hard to discern why we lost that game cos I've read narratives like ghen ghen football cost us the game, overconfidence made us lose. These two reasons are off the mark as to why we lost that game. 1 Like 1 Share |

codemaniacs: Your second line is a confident killer, did we had a good Goalkeeper trainer to bring out the best in them, Or are you saying if Gineau abi had capitalized on that uzoho split, you would had name him as a first On your third line, remove Nacho from there, he is no striker, Dessert, Umar, and Ighalo, Fourthly, is spot on, but did Nacho had a position he plays you last line is spot on too, while I will add a line, we need wingers who can create from nothing like Vicmo, not Simon who run out of Ideas in a tough game, can not cutting to save his life 1 Like |

TFLASHOGEE:I seriously doubt if you understand the gravity of the crime being brought against Greenwood. If his case was like the former New York governor Cuomo which involving stylish groping, grabbing and pestering for sex. Then he would have been in lesser trouble, at least only with Man Utd, FA and not with government. That one can be quickly settled with money. In fact many stars especially in the US have been guilty of this But this one is domestic violence coupled with audio recording of him forcing her to sleep with him. That's classified as rape. I'm just being honest with you. A year or two in jail will be a miracle for him if the court proves this. His case is not good at all. 1 Like 1 Share |

TheGoodJoe: No he did not. Zaidu recorded 100% accuracy in crosses (3/3) against Egypt, Ebuehi recorded 100% accuracy in crosses (1/1) against Equatorial Guinea, even though Zaidu crosses wasn't as efficient in subsequent games as they were against Egypt, but they were still better than what our wingers were dishing out. Upon this discovery, what should an average tactician do? Allow your fullbacks to provide the required width, let them do more of the crossing while your wingers crowd about the opponent's box. But this will in many ways alter the structure and integrity of the 4-4-2, 4-2-2-2 system, since your wingers should be assuming an inverted role. Our wingers were played as inverted wingers as against the traditional winger role as typified in 4-4-2, 4-2-2-2 system. Chukwueze is left footed and should be plying the left side of the pitch as a traditional winger in a 4-2-2-2, but we saw him on the right, despite playing an inverted role, he was made to do crosses which shouldn't be the normal. Inverted wingers are supposed to play somehow as strikers were they are to cut in with their stronger foot to shoot, do some playmaking or trade a simple pass. Again we lacked the central midfield to distribute good passes to the wingers, even the player who could do it, was played from the bench or not played at all. The presence of Nwakali, Ejuke and finally Olayinka made me think that 4-2-2-2 might somehow be feasible, but i was wrong, these guys were benched for the wrong personnel. Our long passes from the defense stood more chances of being read and neutralized, than the ones from midfield. To Summarise, Eguavoen should have allowed his fullbacks to do more of the crossing, seeing that they are better, revert to 4-3-3 because it is the best setup that gives your fullback and wingers the best orientation for this kind of maneuvre. Eguavoen should have allowed his wingers their traditional roles, but he inverted them and still expected them to perform like traditional wingers. Our hanker for a central midfield that can spray passes and dictate play became more intense after Rohr switched to 4-4-2. Eguavoen had one, but failed to grasp the importance. In the light of these and more, Eguavoen flopped big time. TheGoodJoe, you know how much i value your insights, but on this one, i will not subscribe. Moreover there is this interesting romantic movie before me, that i have pledge to finish. Let me finish it. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Meliforme: Nice thesis but hasty conclusion. I will give you some things to ponder on. We played a highly offensive system with our wingers, attackers, and to some extent midfielders (including Ndidi) pushing forward. How do you expect the full backs to push at ease to provide width? You are forgetting it is a strategy of diagonal long balls and the wingers are to recieve it. I have said it repeatedly, the coach has his philosophy. What was present was that it was effective. You keep talking about the wingers being inverted. It is his philosophy. What matters is that he created chances. How he creates it does not defeat that aspect. No matter how long you write and argue, the fact remains we created loads of chances. You talk about not utilizing crosses, the coach has told you it is a system that they will grow into with time. He does not want to change the system. He wants the players to perfect on it. With time they will arrive at the attacking third at the right time to make use of the crosses. I repeat, all this long story does not count as long as we created chances. Our problem was failing to take the chances created. No matter how you switch the shape, if the chances comes, and they do not take it, the switches won't matter. FINITO. 1 Like |

Meliforme: You talk about midfield build-up play. It is not the coach's system. He plays a direct attacking system. Eguavoen believes in it. I remember once reading Coach Sylvanus Okpala make the same statement. He believes clever build-up plays with patience will not work for us. You can critique it from today to tomorrow, it is their belief. Not mine. I am in love with a patient, tidy midfield play. Blown by defense-keeping possession. They do not. They believe we are RUSHIANS. Get the ball upfront and let us get the game going. So when criticizing, remember we created the chances and fail to take them. Changing shape might mean disrupting the plan the coach has for the team. Even with a man down, we kept creating chances. |
