You should probably go back and mention in your OP that you are speaking here of common-law marriages, which as at last check, aren't recognized in Nigeria. So it would be a good idea to also add information about your location since the laws governing such unions differ from place to place.

Most of our Fathers those days never paid Bride price, and they had more than one wives. How? Once they love a woman and the woman loves them in return, they take the women to their house to live with them. She becomes their his wife automatically. Then that was how a man would have 2 or more wives with this format. Even in our present time, it's still happening. How do u think Solomon got married to 1000 wives? Did he pay their Bride price?

you can not seek divorce from a court that never granted you one

in simple terms your marriage was never made constitutionally legal so you dont need the court to disolve it

I assume you married traditionally so it will be divorced traditional but any property/assets aquired during the period of marriage can be challenged legally

So what do all the people in such situation in my hometown alway run to court whenever the need arise. I have seen countless of people not married legally seek for divorce in court of law.
