I don't really understand what you mean by "can this laptop run programming" but if you're asking if can execute codes on the PC, you sure can. Most PC's can execute codes, it's just a matter if performance. For example, if you're using a heavy IDE like Visual Studio or NetBeans, the system might hang frequently. Again, if you're doing the kind of programming that would require you to run virtual machines, then this might not work.

You have the PC with you already. Why not set up the development environment for the kind of programming you want to learn and see for yourself how it performs? If this is the only PC you have, then you'll have to manage it regardless of whatever performance issues you might face. Most open source stacks are lightweight. You can even use Notepad++ if it comes that.

6 gig of ram will hang a lot when you get to react but it's manageable.

And again what development environment do you think the PC would work well with.

Okay, the thing is I want to learn coding by starting with HTML and CSS then proceed to JavaScript and on.
In short I'm starting with front end programming then move to back end programming.

Thanks for your input.

Okay, but luckily the RAM is upgradable to 16GB.

@bolded, your development environment depends on the type of programming you're doing. You don't chose dev environment based on what the PC can handle. If a particular type of programming requires certain components to be installed, you'd have to install anyway.

If basic HTML/CSS is the on the only stuff you're learning for now, then all you need is an editor. Editors are lightweight, your PC shouldn't have a problem taking care of that. Get VS Code and get started.

Okay, the thing is I don't know shi about coding of a thing, I just want to get started with it.

Here's what I want to learn;

Web designing
Building of Mobile app and games
Then probably learn cyber security or ethical hacking or the two if possible

And again what are the chances of one getting a job without a degree in computer science.

The thing is I have another course I want to study at school so I just want to learn coding myself though videos, books and any materials I lay my hands on.

Once more what tools would you recommend me to install on my laptop in order to practice coding.

Thanks for you input so far kiss

I anticipate your response cry

Currently, if you really want to enjoy writing codes without lagging or frustration, please get yourself a good Laptop of 16GIG ram with 250 GIG of SSD to smoothly run your project without any problem because all the editors you need to write codes are been upgraded everyday.
Android Studio
Visual Studio
IntelliJ Idea
NetBeans
Xcode

It's normal to want a lot especially when you're viewing them from a distance. However, it could take a while to learn one and build experience in it. Like I stated in my last post, my advice for you is to get started and see how it goes. For basic/vanilla HTML/CSS, just install VS Code and code away. When you are ready for JS, you can experiment with different frameworks and see which one works for you. Just do it one step at a time so you wouldn't get overwhelmed.

You love programming, you want to make a career out of it, but you have another course you want to study in school? Just curious, why is this the case? What's the point of studying a course that does not align with your career goal? You just don't love programming enough to influence your choice? Many people don't know what they want to do with their lives even after thier secondary school education. That's why they end up studying one course only to start seeking skills in another field years later. I'm sure you have your reasons but you might want to discuss this with your career adviser just to be sure.

Yes, you don't need an IT degree to get a job. Even if you were to go for a degree, you'd still have to do a lot learning on your own. But of course, it might be easier if you had one. Some systems do the first automatic filtering of applications based on predefined criteria and degree could be one of those. A degree in IT also depicts passion. Above all this, a degree in Computer Science and/or Mathematics would give you a solid understanding of software development theories/practices and industry standards.

Good morning bro, I really appreciate your input so far it as been really insightful.

About not studying computer science at school is because I felt I should just go study something else because I've been seeing posts of people saying they learnt it(programming) on their own therefore I should be able to do so even some do state that some Nigerian universities are not so particular about the practical apect of it so I just thought of learning it myself then I'd go study computer science abroad as a Master degree.

Again it's Aerospace engineering I plan to use a first degree

PS- I've very passionate about programming and all but it's just the Nigerian universities style that's making me choose this path of study.

Thanks once again, you're mouthed.
