He uploaded pictures of disgusting accommodation he was given and told his mother that he has complained to the school administration but was told to come back the next day , he was found dead in the same room wearing the same clothing he arrived Ukraine with. Really sad story.

Jesus Christ! May he rest in Power. That stupid school is in for it. The local council, their version of Health and safety, Everybody will pay. Why rent an unsafe room? I know you are at the brink of war but have you lost your mind? angry

Apologies ahead if I'm derailing the thread, bit my intention.

Please those that have been able to successfully switch from Study Visa to Skilled worker/Health & Care visa (before finishing studies), how long did the decision take?

I'm about to make payment for the family and would like to understand the process. Did you do another biometric (I'm in Scotland, will I travel to England for that?).

Thank you.

Allegedly this is the condition of the accommodation he was given and his picture with the mum at the airport

I will try the stuffing things, I'm sure it will conserve heat too.

You may consider getting those small heaters too for your room. What's your EPC rating?

Storage heater in the palour, barely used. Normal heater in the room, turns off when the room is quite warm. Can't wait for winter to be over.

Therein lies the problem! Does your meter have two readings ie a day and night reading? If your accommodation has storage heaters you should be on the economy 10 tariff and not the standard tariff.

On economy 10, you will have two tariffs. One for the night which is usually cheaper and a standard day tariff. The storage heaters will be wired to the night tariff while the rest of your appliances will be on the standard tariff. The storage heaters are meant to charge up during the night when electricity is cheap and then release heat during the day. They should be on 24/7 so they can charge up when electric is cheap but you can set them to release the heat at certain times of the day.

I used to live in a 3 bed all electric house with 3 storage heaters and my monthly DD was less than £120. I think you need to have a conversation with your landlord and electric provider.

Use this link https://appointments.immigration.gov.ng/. You will need your Application Number and Reference Number. Both should be on your payment/Acknowledgment slip.

We talk about fees and financial stuff a lot on these threads (here n student), I think we need to talk more about how to manage some situation too (situations like this). A lot of people are traveling for the first time and there is this old mindset that whites are not nice or racist and all that. This old tales make people hold things inside instead of asking for help.

If I were to be in this situation, I would have knocked on the next room to explain my situation and pass the night with the person. I don’t mind knocking on 5 doors till I get someone to say “ok you can come in”.

It’s a very painful story. Anytime I think about the parents I just get sad. If you ever find yourself in any uncomfortable situation, just ask for help from anyone around you, forget about authorities at that time. You will be surprised that the oyibo you think are racist secretly wants to have a black friend. A lot of them want one now. Ask for help from your next door neighbors, your neighborhood. It’s better to ask for help than suffer. People are nicer now. Fewer racist this days, thanks to TikTok and others that have connected the world with fun and jokes.

The guy story pain me well well. Can’t imagine the parents, from having high hopes to no hopes. Very painful.

Hi Everyone,

Happy to be here.
I am a new mum currently out of work.

I am home all day/night, so I would like to offer babysitting services for those who need it. Drop offs will be ideal.

Taking care of my baby has given me ample experience and I will love to extend that to your little ones as well.

Please send me a message if you're interested.

Yeah, quite a sad story, but you maybe surprised that, that room was assigned to the Nigerian by a NIgerian/Indian or even an arab agent who wanna own a castle and drive the lastest racing car in a foreign land.

Most schools in eastern europe(Russia, Ukraine, Belarus), you get admissions through an "agent/school representative", now these agents or school representatives have hostels/rooms they can assign to their students on arrival, furthermore, based on whatever outrageous sum they are able to extort from you would determine the condition of accommodation you are given on arrival, as such the next door room might have been in a worse shape.

That the Nigerian student's association, Nigerian diplomatic missions there are numb leads me to suspect that a greedy countryman there may have been the bad actor/actress in these. So might not have been a case of racism but act of wickedness from a soul who has no regards for Life.

Many new travellers spent all their time focusing on getting a visa and little time on how to survive in a foreign land, Many will come here to ask question about accommodation after getting a visa, bought ticket then they will come here to ask how to get a place or if there is job in that city.

You also have to be careful about what you say to someone that has never travelled before else it will be tagged as discouragement.

Ukraine is a dead-end country that has very little to offer foreign students.

People have tried to here but they see them as bullied or been rude or too proud. So its better to leave them to their fate. Whatever they meet they should accept.

So sad that this lad had to go this way. He must have be very young or a shy person. If it's an older or someone who doesn't care they would have gone out.

These guys are nice I must admit, at least the ones I've met. But rather than blame the victim for not doing what he does not know how to do, we should blame the school authorities for doing the wrong thing.

Authorities have been known to fail for ages and I think it happens in every country. You just have to sort yourself out first, then come back to fight the authority, na who de alive de explain him own version of the story and I am not saying it to blame the victim, I just want people to know that it’s okay to ask for help. The death is just too painful. How person go cold to death. I get shocks when I think about it.

My sister, bully and save a soul. A lot of people are stranded abroad and some of them it’s just that no one told them or maybe they didn’t ask. I think it’s fine to be called a bully than just let person enter hole.

Behold this woman came out to not only keep my bike but to drop me at work .

I was at amazed and couldn't keep my mind off the help through out the day.

you know for instance the ECO for UK would say the ONUS is on the applicant, in eastern europe the ONUS is on the agents, and if you fall into the wrong one, you would never recover your destiny... from first day of school until graduation you pay every dime bill through the agent's account not the school..

If you want your pain level to increase, just try to establish who was the late student's agent? If ain't a Nigerian then the diplomatic missions there need to leave. The Nigerian agent who may have been involved may have even promised that poor soul a palace on arrival

You can imagine. Things are happening now, times have changed, people are a lot nicer. I use to think covid added to the change, but I think it’s just understanding that there is no difference other than complexion. Just ask for help. Glasgow here, you will ask one person for direction, six people from no where will come out and explain one after the other the same or similar to what the first person explained just to make sure you are okay and safe.

Someone said you should expand your search to paisley. That’s a good one. Just check the distance and be sure it won’t affect you in any way. But that’s the best bet now, the house shortage has been on for some months now. Also you can manage paisley and still be searching in Glasgow.
