Six Important Lessons Christians Could Learn From A Wise Heathen King It was the king of Nineveh, a heathen nation, whose exemplary leadership and wise decisions ultimately saved the lives of his people and the great City from going into extinction. Jonah 3:5-10 These are the six important lessons I was able to draw from his exemplary leadership. 1. He was a selfless and humble leader. 2 He led by example. 3. He never gave up. 4. He believed God's Word. 5. He knew the importance of fasting. 6. He also knew how much true repentance and righteousness meant to God. He knew that it was the only thing that could move God to possibly turn away from His fierce anger, and reverse His pronounced judgment upon his people because of their wickedness. God bless. 9 Likes |

Jonah 1:1-2 (KJV) Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me. Jonah 3:1-4 (KJV) And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying, Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee. So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey. And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown. Jonah 3:5-9 (KJV) So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them. For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water: But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands. Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not? Jonah 3:10 (KJV) And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not. God bless. 5 Likes |

Sadly despite the privilege of having the importance of righteousness severally emphasized by the teachings of Jesus, which was a significant upgrade to the Law and the prophets of the days the king of Nineveh, that made many prophets and kings earnestly desire to hear Him speak, many Christians still don't know how much righteousness means to God. Some of them think that because they honor Jesus with their lips and mouths, and call Him, "Lord", they can still continue in their works of iniquity and sinful lifestyle. And even if Jesus comes back to find them on top of the opposite sex, committing adultery or fornication, He would still accept them, because they believe their own righteousness was as filthy rags and so doesn't matter to God. But this instance of the king and people of Nineveh proves how misled and wrong they are, because if that was the case, God would have had no respect for the righteousness of the heathen nation of Nineveh to the extent that He would have wanted to destroy them for the lack of it, or reversed His pronounced judgment because they had repented and turned from their wicked ways which made God want to destroy the nation. The King of Nineveh no doubt knew much better than such Christians about the importance of righteousness to God, despite not having the benefit of hearing and learning from the teachings of Jesus, so they could do well to learn a thing or two from the wise heathen king. Matthew 13:41-42 (KJV) The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. The people of Nineveh were not expecting someone to come and die for them. They repented to their Lord by relating with Him how they ought to. No blood! No death! No Adam sin! No sacrifice! No Jesus! No John 3:16! 2 Likes |

This happened from Noah, Abraham, Moses,....., Muhammad! No blood atonement! No father sending son to be killed kinda salvation! No dying for sins! No three gods packaged as one! 1 Like |

AntiChristian:This guy, you get time oo. Anyway, Saul( who later became Paul) was worse than you yet, he was.later saved on his way to Damascus on a mission to do same thing you're doing now. If Saul could be saved, yours isn't an exception. Note this, It's going to be impossible to drag people who had known the light back into darkness guy. Rather, seek light and eschew darkness. It's laughable when you say Christ doesn't exist. But your likes would be swift to believe that pharaohs truly existed through the Egyptian mummies exhumed which confirmed the reign of those pharaos over 3 thousand years ago via the writings inscribed on their tomb from where those mummies were exhumed. All these events predated the birth of Jesus whom you said never existed. This is quite laughable guy. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Thank you for taking your time out to do this. In a time like this we need more people like you to remind us about something else apart from the war in Ukraine. My thanks also goes to all of you here in nairaland. We have good teachers here and I know some of you don't believe that but like it or not I was better informed by just going through the comments here on issue at hand, the war. I stepped out yesterday and I was surprised at how much I know about this issue at hand, all thanks to my learned friends in nairaland. We're just unigue. We may not have it all worked out but we are blessed in one way or the other and I'm grateful for that. God bless Nigeria.. 1 Like |

The most important issue that is applicable to us today, faith in the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ for our sins, appears to be missing form the list. In a way, this was what the Ninevites believed; since there must be a sin bearer for sins to be forgiven. Mere sorrow for sins and repentance is NOT enough! It has to come with faith in the payment of the Lord Jesus Christ for our sins. www.thetruechristianfaith.com
