Priest Angrily Bans Igbo Songs In Church. The Parish Priest of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ewu-Owa Gberigbe in Ikorodu, Rev. Fr. James Anelu has banned Igbo songs and choruses in his Church. The Priest who angrily stopped a soul lifting chorus during the second collection said the Igbos cannot keep dominating other people even in his Church. If He sighted the case of his Benin Diocese where Igbos dominate to the point of becoming the Bishop in person of Akubueze. Rev. Fr. James Anelu said that the spirit of God in any place recognises only languages indigenous to that geographical location. On saying this, the entire congregation went up in tumultuous uproar, leading to abrupt dismissal as people massively walked out of the Mass. The News Gazette Online Me: This is why I keep saying that even if we get Biafra, the fear of Igbo domination will keep multiplying and the unending desire exterminate Igbos will only triple. This fear is higher amongst our Southern neighbours than Northerners. Instead of running away, we should embrace domination and infact, have a domination agenda. 1 Like |

The way individual tribes is turning the church is really alarming, the priest may had done it wrongly but he has a very serious point. At Holy Rosary Ogba, I was in church one faithful Sunday that was suppose to be Igbo day, the Igbos expected that the entire mass will be in Igbo but Father our parish priest refused that in Lagos Arch diocese or any diocese it's the indigenous tribe that must be used. The Igbos did not find it funny and they refuse to go for their own thanksgivings, I was so ashamed. I have also attended several parishes in the East where you will feel so frustrated attending mass, it is Ibo or nothing, even when you try to attend societal meetings if it's not Igbo language forget it. I don't know why the Igbos feel they own the Catholic Church. If Father has given an instruction as far as the mass is going on the laity has no right to protest or disturb the peace of the mass. In Warri diocese on the other hand they are way very well checkmated. The Igbos must respect the Indigenous tribe. Igbo might be very sweet in your ear but might be catastrophic in my own ear. 1 Like |

Felimax:What is the percentage of Yoruba ppl in all d people that attend Catholic masses in Lagos? Search Google for the list of priests working in Lagos diocese, half of them are Igbo, now imagine what d percentage could be among the laity. 1 Like |

dokyOloye:Forget about the percentage. That has nothing to do with you dominating the indigenous language. Even if it is only one Yoruba old man or woman their population has exceeded your billions, give the old man or woman a reason to be happy been in their community, don't come and be trying to teach them another foreign language. You Ibos will never accept it. Let's call a spade a spade. Do you allow other tribes to dominate your own in the East? 1 Like |

Felimax:Your own bigotry has clouded your senses. You ppl are always talking about Igbo dominance as if they come to your soup pot to dominate you. So you don't want to hear Igbo language in a church where the attendees might be up to 70% Igbos? In my Parish here in Abuja,Igbos easily make up 70% of those who attend masses,so,why should anybody complain that once in a while Igbo songs are sung in d church? Despite the fact that Yorubas are rarely found in Catholic churches here in Abuja, yet Yoruba songs are common during praise and worship but anytime una hear Igbo, una senses go begin run riot. I don't think anybody will be singing Igbo songs in Olumba Olumba church anywhere in d SW cos you will rarely find an Igbo man there. https://lagosarchdiocese.org/newsdetail.php?tab=328 Read thru this link and tell me if Igbos do not easily make up to 40-50 percent of the priests in Lagos diocese. |

dokyOloye:That is your business. No matter the population of Igbos in mass in Warri you CANNOT dominate the mass. If a bishop has allowed it in his diocese it's their business but where it is not allowed the Igbos should respect it. At Holy Spirit Omole the population of Igbos there is much also but everything is done at moderation. Igbos Lagos is not your home. Lagos is for the Yorubas. Are you people so cursed! |

cremedelacreme:Get that straight. You have just exhibited the best that was made of you. The truth is scary right? The church is not Olumba Olumba, the church is not an Igbo church. What madness will make the bishop of Arch diocese of Lagos to be an Igbo man? Deal with the truth, Lagos is not your home, allow the Yorubas to worship God in their language. Stop dominating their tribe, worst you can learn their tribe and make them feel comfortable in their house. Which kind people be all these ones? 1 Like |
