SOURCE: BBC Ukraine's ambassador in London, Vadym Prystaiko, has told the BBC his country might be willing to drop its ambition to join Nato to avert war, saying Ukraine could be "flexible". Asked if Kiyv was considering shelving its plans to pursue Nato membership, despite it being written into the Ukrainian constitution, he replied: "We might - especially being threatened like that, blackmailed by that, and pushed to it." 1 Like

The Ukrainian leaders thought the whole pressure will force Russia to back down. But now it is clear that Russia is adamant. They thought the lethal weapons they got from the West and the threats made by the West to impose harsh economic sanctions on Russia will push Russia to de-escalate the tension. They even threatening to sanction Puttin himself and the likes of Chelsea boss-Roman Abramovich. But what they fail to realise is that, this is a matter of life & death for Russia. If all the countries bordering Russia joins NATO. Russia will be alone & powerless. Which is why Russia will never allow Ukraine to join NATO. I strongly believe Russia won't invade Ukraine. They are just trying to put pressure on Ukraine to abandon it's ambition to join NATO. Ukraine has no choice than to accept FINLANDIZATION. Which means stay neutral. 3 Likes |

edmaraja: Shut up. They are not beating their chest. Although they made a right choice to prevent blood bath. This is a case of accepting to forfeit your independence. Russia will now be controlling them like puppies. Before they make any decisions, they will first consult Russia. Trust me, You will always forbid Such happening to your country. Imagine South Africa telling Nigerian not to join ECOWAS? Just imagine. |

Northernblood4: Russia is not interested in controlling Ukraine. The country is already been controlled by the West. Ukraine can join EU to boost it economy. What Russia doesn't want, is for Ukraine to join NATO. Finland for example also share border with Russia. It is an EU member. But not a NATO member. The country is not having any issue with Russia. 3 Likes |

Northernblood4: ECOWAS is not a military alliance. You can compare ECOWAS with EU. NATO is a military alliance. This is a clear evidence that most people don't what NATO is... 1 Like |

Cptflint: Is Ukraine answerable to Russia? They have their reason to join NATO. Russia should present a better option to them. Stop supporting injustice 1 Like |

olugabbie: As if if Nigeria is given opportunity to join NATO, won't they? They need improved security system just as any other country that wants to progress. It is their choice as an independent country. 1 Like |

Northernblood4: While I agree with what you're trying to say, you should know that super power or even regional power countries somtimes impose their will at least on the countries around them. NATO missiles in Ukraine makes the Russians uncomfortable so they can dictate that Ukraine shouldn't be a part of NATO AND have the resources necessary to make sure those demands are met whether Ukraine likes it or not. For example the US was ready to invade Cuba in the Cuban missile crises but Cuba was a sovereign nation hosting soviet missiles because they wanted too. What I mean by all this is the rules are not the same for everyone. super powers and regional powers sometimes get to make some special demands. Meanwhile, to the topic. If Ukraine decides to drop their NATO membership ambitions, it would be good for both them and even russia. Because it's obviously Putin is still hoping this can be resolved democratically and the military-technically responds he said he would use is only gonna be as a plan B if he's convinced he won't get what he wants by just pressuring Ukraine. All what Ukraine needs to do is to look at Finland history and learn their lessons from it. Finland said they will never join NATO, they still havent joined NATO but are part of EU since 1995 and Russia doesn’t threaten their existence at all. Let Ukraine agree that they will never join NATO, then in return get Donbas back from Russia. Why provoke Russia when they are at their best militarily since the dissolution of USSR? 2 Likes 1 Share |

Like France, Hungary and Germany are ready before to risk their lives to save Ukraine. Those countries have been blocking Ukraine ways to NATO. Even Norway that host USA base and a NATO new government has banned NATO activities 50KM away from Russia border. NATO have been dragging Finland to join them but Finnish citizens don’t want to have Russia military at her border or Russia missiles pointed at her. Finland and Russia borders are must easy border to cross |
