Not sure you need to wait for an email for your BRP unless there was an issue with it which you reported in the first place. The person can go back in two weeks. When my family came last year, they went for their BRP 11 days after arrival (due to self isolation at home). When we got to the post office, they told us the BRPs were only received the day before.

I was playing around with the mortgage calculator on rightmove... I noticed that for a house of say 600k, the monthly mortgage could be 2500 with a 10% deposit. But curiously, doubling the deposit to 20% only marginally reduced the mortgage to like 2200 (the figures are not exact)
Is there any trick to striking an agreeable balance between increasing the deposit paid and achieving a lower monthly mortgage...cos the way it looks to me, one might as well deposit only 10% and invest tge rest in a buy to let...

You can get palm oil and other African stuff from Kashmir store on Eglinton Road G5 9RU (you can get directions their from Google map) walking distance from some parts of city centre. They have 10kg bags of rice as well, they have long grain one( Tollyboy Rice is closest to Naija one).
For bigger bag rice and wholesale products generally there's Alfa Wholesale on Lancefield street G3 8HZ
Also another African shop called Larrytino on maryhill road G20 9AX ( they stock all Naija food stuff, owned by a Nigerian), the others are Asian owned.

It could be the friend got her own visa earlier. It BRP are produced after visa is granted. It could also just be any random reason. Just ask her to be patient and check again in a week or two.

Doubling the deposit basically increases your equity but potentially the interest rates between an 80% to 90% LTV ratio isn't that much so that's why you are seeing close quotes. You can definitely divert your extra funds to start your property portfolio.

Also noticed that you might properly get a reduced mortgage repayments based on your actual scenario because the calculators are designed on like standard 3% rates and there are mortgages as low as 1.25% in the recent times.

Caveat- the above is just personal experience and not a professional one. Trust Ticha and others to do it justice

Don't use rightmove, try the calculator
from mortgage providers to see the difference. For example, 20% deposit on 600k with Nationwide will be a monthly payments of about £1500.

Council tax on empty houses is usually even more than occupied houses. It is like a property tax on every dwelling and someone must be liable either the tenant who lives there or the landlord.

Property gurus correct me if I'm wrong o. Plus I was in same situation last year and paid the tax for both. The person that sold you the house would probably have informed the fibbing that ownership has changed so the bill will be coming to you

Be careful before dabbling into btl, make sure you do your numbers well because you could be paying out of pocket as a private landlord because hmrc considers rent as income. Not to talk about all the regulations, cost and tenant wahala. Some landlords will be fixing kaylov12's fence after the storm.

Look into registering a limited company for btl if you want to go into it

Irrespective of which license you get, your entitlement to drive in the UK on a non-UK licence ends exactly one year from the day you entered the UK on your Tier 4 visa, so you must have changed to a full UK licence by then if you wish to continue driving around.

I don't know how things are now (hopefully shouldn't have changed), but back in the day, passing your test in Aberdeen and all those less populated areas in Scotland was way easier than in places like Manchester and London. Once you master roundabouts, all else shouldn't be a problem.

first test in less than 10min. Roundabout going right but was on the wrong lane. Them kuku bring am back to test center.

Second test was the funny one. He used the wrong lane to exit the gate of the test center. So he basically failed in less than 5min. Another guy failed the test doing the same thing that day. Laugh one finish me.

Driving in UK as well for months and with loads of naija experience.

First test switching lanes without proper observations, there was a van oncoming examiner hold steering.

Second test

He no see red traffic light examiner shout stop.

But the light was immediately after a double roundabout. Plus there was a busstop.

But still. Observations lacking in both tests.


Advice for anyone taking the test look mirrors almost as much as you are looking front.

Safe driving is all what the examiner wants to see.

You can fail because of manover unless it's observations related

The first guy most likely did not use an instructor ("Why I go waste money, I sabi drive already!), or failed to pay attention, because any instructor worth their salt will take you over the driving test route(s) a few times before test day, starting from the test centre itself.
