TheGuyFromHR: Exactly. He only booked 2 hrs some days to the test saying it was enough. I spent 5 hrs a day to the test and 1hr on the test day. I will correct him about something and in the next minute he will do the same thing. I knew quite well he wouldn't pass the first one, I just wanted him to get the test experience and reduce his strong head. But I never expected sharp sharp failure 3 Likes |

Good morning all. I am very new in The UK. This is my third week and have got all necessary documents as a student. But I'm finding it somehow hard to land a student job I'm open to travel anywhere since my lecture is just once in a week. Anyone with a useful idea should please give me clue. Thanks 1 Like |

Estroller: Depending on the council, you can apply for an exemption and pay little or nothing towards your council tax. The property has to be empty, unfurnished and currently undergoing renovation. Check your council's website for further information on their terms and the discount offered. You must inform the council as soon as your circumstances change (e.g you were granted a 6 months exemption but you moved into the house after 6 weeks). This is because they carry out regular visitation at properties that have been reported as "empty" and where they find out the owner/renter has been dishonest, there are usually very stiff penalties 2 Likes |

mizGene: £300 might seem like not a lot but over a year, 3 years, 5 years, 25 years, its actually a lot of money. As fatima has rightly pointed out, the bigger your deposit, the bigger your equity. 2 Likes |

deept: Not really, the land register does that, they will inform the council when key exchange hand and your council tax will be adjusted...when you moved in after buying a house council usually send a form to that address...empty home form(really can not remember the actual name) you basically complete the form indicating when you moved in and whether you renting it or you bought it... the funny thing here is..the council will start billing you for council tax from the day you got the key and not the day you moved in... This happened to me...i completed the form and indicated the day i moved in but about 7months later council took extra money for my council tax when i contacted them i was told that the land registry informed them that i collected the key days earlier so they have to adjust my council tax. |

Estroller: Different councils have different policies on this matter. For me i notified the new council of my completion date and told them when I’ll move in, my billing only started from the date i moved in. |
Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by deept(m): 10:51am On Feb 19, 2022 |
justwise: That too. Usually when you cancel council tax, they will ask you who is liable for the tax and the past owner will put your details. Maybe the former owners did not pass your details to the council so they got the info from the land registry. 1 Like |

Hello Elders and Moderns (Abi how them dey write am now ), I have a few questions - Can students work full time during summer or this is subject to your school's T & C? I have been seeing some conflicting info and not much can be seen on the home office website as regards what term time fully entails. I have mailed the school but I doubt I can get a fast response A friend shared this with me - https://www.gre.ac.uk/visa/during-your-studies/working-in-the-uk-during-your-study and it says during summer, MSc students will still be restricted to 20hrs per week with full time allowed only during Easter and December breaks (Only 20 hours per week maximum in permitted because you will be required to work on your dissertation during this time.) - If I do get a job with sponsorship, am I tied for that company for the entire 5 yrs? is there a duration the sponsorship contract lasts for? Will i be able to apply to and get other jobs? Thank you as you respond |

hustla: For MSc they calculate your summer as part of the Time needed for research. You can apply for jobs anytime. Nobody is monitoring your email/movement. Your new job will have to provide new CoS as the previous one is tied to the employer who issued it. Good luck |
