Key observations.
The first guy most likely did not use an instructor ("Why I go waste money, I sabi drive already!), or failed to pay attention, because any instructor worth their salt will take you over the driving test route(s) a few times before test day, starting from the test centre itself.

Exactly. He only booked 2 hrs some days to the test saying it was enough.

I spent 5 hrs a day to the test and 1hr on the test day.

I will correct him about something and in the next minute he will do the same thing. I knew quite well he wouldn't pass the first one, I just wanted him to get the test experience and reduce his strong head.

But I never expected sharp sharp failure

Irrespective of which license you get, your entitlement to drive in the UK on a non-UK licence ends exactly one year from the day you entered the UK on your Tier 4 visa, so you must have changed to a full UK licence by then if you wish to continue driving around.

I don't know how things are now (hopefully shouldn't have changed), but back in the day, passing your test in Aberdeen and all those less populated areas in Scotland was way easier than in places like Manchester and London. Once you master roundabouts, all else shouldn't be a problem.

Thank you

You can get palm oil and other African stuff from Kashmir store on Eglinton Road G5 9RU (you can get directions their from Google map) walking distance from some parts of city centre. They have 10kg bags of rice as well, they have long grain one( Tollyboy Rice is closest to Naija one).
For bigger bag rice and wholesale products generally there's Alfa Wholesale on Lancefield street G3 8HZ
Also another African shop called Larrytino on maryhill road G20 9AX ( they stock all Naija food stuff, owned by a Nigerian), the others are Asian owned.
Hope this helps.

Thank you. I will check them out

Good morning all. I am very new in The UK. This is my third week and have got all necessary documents as a student.
But I'm finding it somehow hard to land a student job
I'm open to travel anywhere since my lecture is just once in a week.
Anyone with a useful idea should please give me clue. Thanks

Thanks. Seems kind of unfair to have to pay it twice as both houses are under the same local council authority and also one will be empty.

Depending on the council, you can apply for an exemption and pay little or nothing towards your council tax. The property has to be empty, unfurnished and currently undergoing renovation. Check your council's website for further information on their terms and the discount offered.

You must inform the council as soon as your circumstances change (e.g you were granted a 6 months exemption but you moved into the house after 6 weeks). This is because they carry out regular visitation at properties that have been reported as "empty" and where they find out the owner/renter has been dishonest, there are usually very stiff penalties

Good evening everyone.

I was playing around with the mortgage calculator on rightmove... I noticed that for a house of say 600k, the monthly mortgage could be 2500 with a 10% deposit. But curiously, doubling the deposit to 20% only marginally reduced the mortgage to like 2200 (the figures are not exact)
Is there any trick to striking an agreeable balance between increasing the deposit paid and achieving a lower monthly mortgage...cos the way it looks to me, one might as well deposit only 10% and invest tge rest in a buy to let...

£300 might seem like not a lot but over a year, 3 years, 5 years, 25 years, its actually a lot of money. As fatima has rightly pointed out, the bigger your deposit, the bigger your equity.

Doubling the deposit basically increases your equity but potentially the interest rates between an 80% to 90% LTV ratio isn't that much so that's why you are seeing close quotes. You can definitely divert your extra funds to start your property portfolio.

Also noticed that you might properly get a reduced mortgage repayments based on your actual scenario because the calculators are designed on like standard 3% rates and there are mortgages as low as 1.25% in the recent times.

Caveat- the above is just personal experience and not a professional one. Trust Ticha and others to do it justice
Ok. Good point, I guess the interest rate will be impacted by credit scores..

Don't use rightmove, try the calculator
from mortgage providers to see the difference. For example, 20% deposit on 600k with Nationwide will be a monthly payments of about £1500.
Thanks. Will try this.

Be careful before dabbling into btl, make sure you do your numbers well because you could be paying out of pocket as a private landlord because hmrc considers rent as income. Not to talk about all the regulations, cost and tenant wahala. Some landlords will be fixing kaylov12's fence after the storm.

Look into registering a limited company for btl if you want to go into it
Hmm. Interesting. Thank you!

Council tax on empty houses is usually even more than occupied houses. It is like a property tax on every dwelling and someone must be liable either the tenant who lives there or the landlord.

Property gurus correct me if I'm wrong o. Plus I was in same situation last year and paid the tax for both. The person that sold you the house would probably have informed the fibbing that ownership has changed so the bill will be coming to you

Not really, the land register does that, they will inform the council when key exchange hand and your council tax will be adjusted...when you moved in after buying a house council usually send a form to that address...empty home form(really can not remember the actual name) you basically complete the form indicating when you moved in and whether you renting it or you bought it... the funny thing here is..the council will start billing you for council tax from the day you got the key and not the day you moved in...

This happened to me...i completed the form and indicated the day i moved in but about 7months later council took extra money for my council tax when i contacted them i was told that the land registry informed them that i collected the key days earlier so they have to adjust my council tax.

Good day house, hope everyone is well and safe. Please how is council tax handled when moving houses? The new house will be empty for some weeks to allow for renovation, so moving is delayed even though we've completed. Does this mean we will be liable for council tax on two separate addresses while the renovation is going on?

Different councils have different policies on this matter. For me i notified the new council of my completion date and told them when I’ll move in, my billing only started from the date i moved in.

That too. Usually when you cancel council tax, they will ask you who is liable for the tax and the past owner will put your details. Maybe the former owners did not pass your details to the council so they got the info from the land registry.

Hello Elders and Moderns (Abi how them dey write am now grin), I have a few questions

- Can students work full time during summer or this is subject to your school's T & C?

I have been seeing some conflicting info and not much can be seen on the home office website as regards what term time fully entails. I have mailed the school but I doubt I can get a fast response

A friend shared this with me - https://www.gre.ac.uk/visa/during-your-studies/working-in-the-uk-during-your-study and it says during summer, MSc students will still be restricted to 20hrs per week with full time allowed only during Easter and December breaks (Only 20 hours per week maximum in permitted because you will be required to work on your dissertation during this time.)

- If I do get a job with sponsorship, am I tied for that company for the entire 5 yrs? is there a duration the sponsorship contract lasts for?
Will i be able to apply to and get other jobs?

Thank you as you respond

For MSc they calculate your summer as part of the Time needed for research.

You can apply for jobs anytime. Nobody is monitoring your email/movement.

Your new job will have to provide new CoS as the previous one is tied to the employer who issued it.

Good luck

I will like to ask the house who bears the cost of damaged fence.

Eunice broke my fences on both sides, do I or the Landlord bear the cost.... Waiting for responses...
Thank you.

I went to relax and enjoy myself for half term in a warm country , came back this morning to see my fence down and all my garden furniture scattered everywhere

Remind me why I still live in UK as I am sure they will quote hundreds to put them back
