The righteousness of works is dependent on human performance but righteousness of faith is the righteousness that depends on faith in christ.

The righteousness of works believe humans can be righteous or atleast close to righteous by striving to.
But, the righteousness of faith says no one can be righteous or close to righteous even our very best is nothing but filthy rag before God and our only hope is Jesus christ himself.


The righteousness by works is self base, one is directed to self but the righteousness by faith is external, one is directed to the cross.

The glory of the cross is reveled, the benevolence of God demonstrated, the total depravity of humanity is exposed and the inability of man is made known through the preaching of the righteousness by faith.
In the which God alone is glorified, exalted, his unmatched holiness revealed, his justice met in the cross, his abundant and unmerited love demonstrated upon the recipient of his grace.

While in the righteousness of works, God's standard is lowered, his holiness is put down, his love hidden, his justice compromised, the cross lose his power, for if righteousness could be attained by works then the cross becomes irrelevant, Christianity becomes yet another vain religion that teaches piety, good deeds, good morals etc

Romans 3:22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

Romans 4:6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

I guess you are asking after we come to Jesus if we still keep the Commandments, actually what happens is that we become the fulfillment of the Commandments, we go beyond the Ten Commandments, we are now living by the law of christ or the law of faith, which is the law of liberty and unity with God and Jesus christ.

Romans 8:4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Take note the Ten Commandments remain but it is fulfilled in them that believe.

If works can make you righteous then you don't need Jesus but you are wrong all have sinned, no one is righteous no not one.
