I have always believed that for a developing country struggling to quickly catch up with fast moving nations, the best route to take is urbanization. What urbanization does is to provide your citizens living in a given neighborhood with everything they need to live the kind of life witnessed in far more developed climes. ..

What you have just described above is the same thing the OP is propagating... Social structure.

How can we achieve socialism in multi-cultural society like Nigeria?
that's what I have been telling them, Nigeria is so diverse that I don't even know the kind of government that she can run and it will work 90 percent, even the dictatorship of a thing has been tried in Nigeria and it didn't work.
Best is for everyone to go separate and choose what works for them.... Infact the blueprint of the kind of government that will work for each ethnicity in Nigeria is there already, each race/ethnicity just have to be on their own and activate the kind of government that will favour them

@FEB11, I don't know what prompted this idea in you but I say kudos.

If only we could get it past merely wishing for it and actually putting it into a well developed outline... Then it can be acceptable to many of us sick of living like animals in a jungle.

Nigeria only needs restructuring and investment in human development before building useless flyovers and white elephant projects. Your solution for a communist dictatorship is actually stupid...in a communist dictatorship you're practically a property of the government.

That you don't agree with someone doesn't mean his idea is stupid.. since you are not able to make a better idea, I think the joke is on you..

If I ask you restructuring to what? States? Regional powers or what?
Did the regional systems really work in the 60's? It only ended up creating regional power brokers..

Have state creation solved anything? Think my man

“From whence do you anticipate the funds for implementation of these socialist/communist policies will come from?”

Your country is borrowing to survive, and you risk alienating the west by leaning towards socio-communist systems..

You are also part of the reason why we are this backward. Believing we have to borrow to survive...

Let me ask you Chyjoey,
Why do we need to borrow to build a building, or two buildings or a 1000 units of buildings or roads or drainages?
What aspect of these things can't be built by Nigerians using Nigerian material

Africa needs to berestructured. .
Africa current nations should all split and new nations should be formed strictly base on ethnic homogeneity. .
The artificial heterogeneous countries in africa will never develop untill the above is done...

You are unrealistically idealistic in your thinking of the problem.
Let’s assume the manpower is available and are willing to work without pay (ignoring the fact that this is tantamount to slavery),
the physical resources for achieving those goals still have to be sourced, some imported, foreign exchange is needed as well as international cooperation.

The pyramids were built by slaves of a wealthy great civilization.
Ancient Egypt was not surviving on world bank loans.

If by Physical resources you mean granite, sand, cement, steel rods, steel beams, steel pipes, wires, cables, pvc, bitumen, aluminium/ slate roofing sheets, I don't think I need to answer that as I'm sure you know we don't have to import any of those.

If you mean machinery, repairs, spares and fabricating new ones, we just need use what is available and to get our best hands to make ours the way Germans did.

As to your comments of slavery... Who is a slave?

1. Someone forced by internal or external forces to work to make a living for himself and his family?
Or
2. Someone put to work for free without any consideration?

If you're answer is the former, then we are all slaves.
If the answer is the latter, then I don't know of any slave in history because even the slaves of Egypt were housed clothed and fed. The difference is that they had no freewill to decline not to work.

The answer is simple but painful... As painful as removing a decaying tooth.

All cultures have to be collapsed into a NATIONAL CULTURE.

Cultures/ peoples who refuse to merge with other people will be left alone to forge their separate path.

He said DEMOLISH and BUILD mass housing.

many countries are doing it, yes at first many will cry many might die, but it will favour the masses in a long, imagine if this stuff was done in the past talk true naija for no better for eyes?

one of the reason i love my governor is for this reason, recently he drove away petty trader, an motor parks including peace mass away from rumuola flyover side and built up the place to abuja standard, at first people cried but now everyone have moved on, if it continue like that the whole trader will enventualy sum up and occupy any legal trade allocated area there by giving the city a more standard look.. under the dictatorate regime of nyesom ezenwo wike, port harcourt have seeing a real growth shift not the usual patch patch development we were used to. el-rufai is another example
I hereby tender an apology for my previous comment. However, I believe building can take place without demolishing. Government can open up new places for building. I'm scared of the word "demolish." It is like a death sentence to the poor.

your govt is practically socialist. Look at how all the ministries are fairing. Every list of your govt functions ie power, water, roads etc isn't working on the other end ..... the only sectors that are working in nigeria today are private controlled. Telecoms, internet, transportation, banking, real estate. To think there are still people advocating for socialism in nigeria shows how dumb a lot of you can be.

Nigeria needs to adopt 80 percent socialism (communalism) and 20 percent capitalist . The current 100 percent capitalist system is not favorable to Africans.

Demolish everything and build mass housing like these for the poor.
demolish all villages and use the lands as farm lands. ban all importations . Enact swift death penalty for ritual killing, kidnapping, armed robbery, corruption .

Who said that Nigeria is 100% capitalist?

We are spending trillions on subsidy for petrol is that capitalist? This is maybe 20% of the Federal budget given away for nothing!!
We are giving billions away as Trader Moni is that capitalist?

University education is virtually free is that capitalist?

Now to the housing thing

Why can't houses be built in a capitalist model? Why can't government build houses and collect rent or provide long term capital to developers in a model where those who dwell in them pay off the investment overtime.?

Clearly you have not thought this through . The idea just entered your head and you spat it out

I still don't believe in Oyibo concept of democracy as used in Nigeria. This copy and paste democracy is not working in Nigeria.

Govt of the people where illiterate large population choose for less populated learned ones.

Why relegate traditional rulers in a country where the traditional rulers have been once powerful in controlling their domain?

Why double legislators at Federal level?

Why waste billions in election that don't represent the wish of the real people?

So many questions in our so called democracy....

The fact that you have been privileged to understand these issues does not mean you should look down on others who are trying to wake up.

The vast majority of Nigerians do not understand the difference between capitalism and socialism.

What is op is saying about urbanization being a path to development is true. That should be your focus and not his or her understanding of capitalism and socialism.

Nigeria as presently constituted is a mixed economy. It is both a feudal socialist state and a crony capitalist state. If you remove the feudalism and the cronyism, Nigeria would work. The system is not the problem but the mind set of the people who control the system.

Solution 1

To do away with feudalism where some are inherently superior to others because of tribe, religion or even simply by being the child of an important person (I.e a governor’s son getting a job over other more qualified candidates). A merit based system must be established with serious punishments for individuals who abuse this.

Would Nigerians be willing to do away with our culture of my uncle got me a Job? No more connection things?

Other issues that need to be looked into is the provision of quality basic education to try to create a level playing field for all citizens.

Solution 2
Crony capitalism. Nigerians are peacocks so we love to shine and be the center of attention.

To resolve crony capitalism, 2 policies should be implemented:

A. Taxation. Progressive taxation on things like houses, cars, clothes, watches, phones and other ostentatious items that feel our egos with pride will not only save much needed foreign reserves but would also provide capital for the urban renewal the op desires.

B. Ending impunity. A situation where there are different laws for different individuals as can be seen in the treatment of Kyari, not being arraigned publicly like other drug pushers, or the behavior of the Nigerian Canadian minister(Maduka), calling the superiors of the police person who stopped him, needs to change. Administration of justice must be as blind as “Lady Justice”.

These are the issues and solutions to Nigeria’s multitudes of problems and not socialism or capitalism. We are already a mixed economy. We combined the worst aspects of both systems.

Knowledge is not a privilege
What I know is inconsequential compared to what I do no know.
I am very aware of my limitations and so I do not say what I do not know or at least I try not to

When you do not know it is better to keep quiet .

It is dangerous to pretend to know when you are clueless

Exposure is a privilege and exposure brings enlightenment.

We all make mistakes everyday and we learn everyday.

Without discussions and the opinions of others, how do you better yourself?

Sharing your knowledge/ opinion on a subject is never a bad thing.
Being rude and dismissive of other peoples understanding and opinions is definitely bad.

Do you guys read the news? How many successive government in Nigeria haven't done a housing scheme. All they do is take a vast area of land and build bungalows while inflating the cost.

Do you think a dictator from these same crop of people will magically start building 10 storeys instead of bungalow?

Talk of trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist.
