After all, you have said, you still missed the main point.

I did not say Olise and co. should have passion for us. I did not say we are Brazil that they should prefer us to England.

I said, we should stop this routine of trying to convince players to play for us. We have loads of committed players, both home-born and foreign born. Focus on working with those ones.

Keep an open door policy for any them who in the future want to play for us to have a chance to play for the team.

Simple.

Go back to prioritizing youth development.
As funny as it sounds. Scouting players for the National team is directly their job while youth development is not directly theirs. You can't tell them who or where to scout as long as the person in question is Nigerian.

So as far as legality is concerned. They're doing nothing wrong.

They should go back to the way we used to handle our U17. Fund a comprehensive scouting and camping process. Give the lads exposure with games and continue the cycle. Nothing stops them from supporting a team B/team C friendly games to give local players exposure. Even a camping program for Academy players and organzing friendlies for them.

These are more creative ways to scout players for the National team. Than hopping ont he plane to beg those who do not send us.

Excellent knowledge of the round leather game but poor man management skills. Same thing destroyed Oliseh.

We should even be ashamed to still call ourselves the Giants of Africa. We lost that attribute a loooooooooooooooooooooooong time ago.

I used to blame these foreign borns a lot but I sat down and had a rethink. I am against BEGGING them but you can't tell me that trying to convince them to weigh their options and choose us is a bad thing.

Ashleigh Plumptre made Nigeria her first choice...

Nigeria educated their parents.
Nigeria gave their parents jobs which their parents used to save up enough money to be able to migrate legally and seek permanent residency...
Nigeria gave their parents a network of other Nigerians like them in the diaspora to relate with..
Nigeria gave their parents a stable life so that when they migrate they can also have a stable life there and avoid police troubles..
Nigeria ensured their parents were mentally stable and healthy to teach right from wrong..

How many Foreign Born Nigerian players parents call them out the same way Ainsley Maitland-Niles mother was calling him out in the media

How many Foreign Born Nigerian players have you ever heard that they have been accused of rape or beating a woman

How many Foreign Born Nigerian players have you ever seen their brother or relative recording them beating a cat

that's due to their Nigerian parents upbringing..

You don't get it very well. The Job of NFF is to take care of our National team players and regulate professional football in Nigeria. They have little to no business with developing NPFL clubs apart from funding and regulating the LMC which is under them. Even LMC is meant to be collecting money from the league and not NFF. That's how the bureaucracy should work.

Those NPFL clubs have owners. They're not owned by NFF. Those owners should go and do their job. NFF majorly have business with the National team setup and players who are on the National team roster and then with LMC. Every other thing is secondary.

For the TV thing. It's a complex issue so I don't really know who else to blame apart from us. Unfortunately the league is unprofitable. That is where NFF is supposed to be collecting money from and not spending money on. If things were normal. Broadcasters should be pouring in for bids, making money from ads and paying money to LMC which in turn pays to the Clubs and remits taxes to NFF.

Clubs then pay their players, develop their academies and support football generally. LMC then develops the league further and improves infrastructure in a supplementary role since the clubs should already be doing that. NFF then uses their cut to pay National team players and staff, and also for supplementary and CSR purposes.

So why are broadcasters not coming? It all boils down to viewership. The problem lies squarely with Nigerians. We are at fault because we are not watching our own league. Why are we not watching it?

Partially because its not on TV. It's a complex issue I said grin

Are you trying to say that it's the clubs that are supposed to make the league profitable? Cus it sound like it..
Is it not the job of the LMC to source for sponsorships for the league? Most of these clubs are owned by the state government who pay treat the players like they are civil servants.. If there's no sponsorship and tv right, how can clubs make profit?

You guys are being unnecessarily petty...
Going after foreign borns isn't an issue.... I don't know what angle thegoodjoe is getting at, but for me, the NFF shouldn't be spending so much resource just to convince one or two foreign born players to represent us when such resources could be channelled into developing our grassroot football back home . It appears that the NFF don't have much interest in developing our grassroot football, which is unfortunate, seeing as it has always been a source of pride for us.
See, I'm also a big basketball fan and I support our national team passionately.. The men and female team is filled 95% with foreign born players and i totally support it.. Why? because we aren't a basketball playing nation! We don't have the talent and resource for it.. But you see America, we have plenty of people there who develop the passion for the sport back there . But the same can't be said of football... The NFF shouldn't, in the in their relentless pursuit of FB players forget their primary responsibility of developing our football back home..

Nigeria is a basketball playing nation...

In Universities and stadiums, people play basketball in their free time, even Lawn Tennis and Table Tennis..

Nigeria's major problem is creating and maintaining a league structure annually and the reward system...

the reward system is important because it also affects our Football with players complaining about bonuses not been paid and some Nigerian officials who think and believe Nigerian athletes shouldn't be rewarded at all same reason Nigerian officials took phones and other gifts that Japan rewarded all athletes at the Olympics.. the reward system will be different in countries.

If a University hosts a football competition and says every person who can make their Department team even those on the bench will get ₦1,000,000 everyone in the department will go for trials..

U17 is the job of NFF. But how many players are trained in the U17? The U17 players are meant to be scouted from grassroot centres operated by clubs. Even if the NFF decides to train so many people, how many will they be able to train? The focus is on developing a good U17 squad and not on training as much people as possible.

Without grassroot football you may still not get it right at under 17 level unless you carry overage players. Lastly, U17 is still not enough. They need to further develop to become good players and U17 doesn't mean you'll get it right at the National team. Most players in the English setup were trained by clubs in their locality and not by the English FA. They were only scouted by the FA.

Some of these people are the ones who marry the woman that was "AVAILABLE" and not the one they wanted for themselves. Why? They couldn't press on with the right words to trigger her emotions. The moment they are tuned down, they close door and walk away shamefully.

When you are turned down the first time, it could mean she's playing hard to get.. You can try again another time and if she says no, it most definitely means she isn't interested..
Why force? What if she later say yes to you out of pity? don't you think you will be making yourself look miserable??
I don't believe in spending so much energy in chasing something where there's an alternative to such thing... The only thing worth chasing with no alternative is the kingdom of God cheesy

I did not say U17 is enough. I said we should tap the potential we gained from it. It is a process that has raised quality players for decades. If done right, we produce lots of quality players.

I did not say it is the solution. There is still lots to do but we should not stop gaining from it. Next time and in coming times, make the process as comprehensive as it used to be.

Where money comes from is broadcasting rights. I said two things. First we are not watching the league enough to make it profitable for broadcasters to strike deals with LMC. Secondly, clubs are not getting deals because of the first reason.

The LMC has over tried in sourcing for tv partnerships. But the broadcasters keep pulling out due to this issue. Yet we blame them.

Our doors have never been closed to foreign borns. They're only required to work extra hard in the team especially when a local coach is in charge. That is a story for another day.

My problem is the entitlement mentality. It reminds me of the same mentality most Nigerian women have even when they have very little to offer cheesy.

Obviously youth development should be our priority but it isn't. Whose fault is that? The same Nigerians who feel entitled to the fruits of trees they never sowed.

REMEMBERING WHY KESHI PICKED THE PHONE AND CALLED BALOGUN

Dec 20, 2013
FROM Hycode:

How about this guy Leon Balogun

Fortuna Dusseldorf of Germany defender Leon Balogun has exclusively revealed to supersport.com his deep desire is to play for Nigeria

I will walk to Spain, then swim across the ocean, catch a canoe just to honour the call. It will be the pinnacle of my career to represent the country of my father's birth especially because my father was always proud to be a Nigerian" Balogun told supersport.com

Balogun was in the Dusseldorf side that were relegated from the Bundesliga last season where he started half of the matches.”

"It was not a good feeling but Bundesliga 2 is as strong as many first divisions in other European countries and currently we are improving and hopefully should be able to bounce back."

Back to his international ambitions. Asked on what he makes of those who say that he is hoping reap where he had not sown with regards to a world cup place.

"Nobody called me. Nobody came to watch me play during the qualifiers. If they had, I repeat I would have jumped at it and would have contributed my quota to the course"

One of the most fascinating things about Balogun is his fluency in English considering that he has never visited nor lives in an English living country.

"I taught myself mostly because I have always liked to speak the language. I listened to music, I watched films and TV programmes and then added to the classes in school"

The former Weder Bremen defender believes that central defence is his best position. "I have been playing most of my matches now as a right back for Dusseldorf but central defence is where I have originally always liked. However, maybe because of my speed especially on my offensive and my crossing have made my coach prefer playing me at right back"

Balogun is a rare breed of footballers in his humility and even the car he drives "My parents taught me to be content with what I have and where I am. They grounded me properly so that material things are not so important" He does not have arrogance about him and explains why he never got capped by German youth teams "maybe I was not good enough at the time. I will never say that when I was growing up through the ranks that my game would have stood out enough then. Am not hung up on that at all."

Many would have expected him to have moved away from Dusseldorf after the relegation. He sees it a bit different.

"I play more now at this club. More than I did at Bremen so I will rather be playing football regularly at my age instead of sitting on the bench at a big club side."

Final word to Keshi? "I will make the life of every forward that comes up against me miserable throughout the match. I will guarantee 100% commitment to the cause and I am firm believer in team work. Offensively and physically am powerful enough. I have the speed for the position. I will be honoured to be given just a trial."

I'm talking about us not being a basketball playing nation in the sense that it isn't a major sport here.. Basketball is a sport that requires special infrastructure to play.. Sports like football, table tennis, volleyball and athletics are pretty much easy to play because they don't require much infrastructure to use.. But that can't be said of basketball, hence it isn't a sport that's readily accessible anywhere...
There's a basketball court at the school where I'm currently serving and I go there to play every Saturday morning. it's worn out and old looking, and I dare say the only one available within this LGA as a whole..But a lot of guys turn up there every Saturday to play..I've seen one who can even make it to the NBA if they find the means grin ..But where's the means? We don't prioritise the sport, hence we don't have the pool of talent to select from...Hence, we turn to America...

I do agree with the other points you raised though... Sports is one of the few sector that has the power to lift the youths of this country out of their misery and reduce crime! it's unfortunate that our leaders aren't seeing it as such...

We're talking about one of the most corrupt countries on Earth.

We're so holy but we're number two in the world when it comes to paternity fraud.

We're so respectful but people still have the mind to rape women in God's church.

We're so caring but we kill cats on a daily basis because we think they're witches and wizards.

We're so honest but every year we pay for runs when our children want to write exams.

We love to criticize politicians but we keep quiet when a family member becomes one.

See don't even get me started. I don't want to derail this thread.

Oga their duty is to develop grassroot sports generally and development of young people. Check their Act of establishment and definition of statutory powers and duties. If you don't know the role of your government ministries you'll keep on blaming the wrong people all the time. The ministry doesn't fund NFF. NFF is obligated by FIFA to be self reliant so as to avoid government control. But due to inability to meet that. The Federal government gives NFF something called Subventions or Intervention fund. NFF sole job is to support and regulate the national team as well as professional football in Nigeria.

Go and read your legislative acts your senators and reps wrote and amended. They're not there just to collect salary and share bags of rice in your village.

By members I guess you mean the clubs. It is a joint ownership with NFF. Yes infact, they should have 90%. NPFL clubs are seriously underfunded. Their financial wellbeing is much more important than the NFF's pursuit of financial autonomy. At least NFF has access to federal funding and the National team often benefits from donations. NPFL clubs don't have that privilege and State governments who usually own those clubs are hardly doing anything.

There is a saying 'marry who love you more than you love her' why? Because she would be ready to do anything for you...she will be ready to ride with you through thick and thin.(this is what Thegoodjoe meant by passion)

Now, if the lady that rejected you thrice now decided to accept your advance, that's when you become a Simp pro max ... She will automatically become the husband while you become the wife...she will be the one dictating for you...she may decide one day to break up with you and there is nothing you can do, she can even roll out a timetable for you and you will follow it whether you like it or not ....

To the girl that will only date you when you're ready made (Olise) , as you know that life can't be rosy all the time, how sure are you that she will stay with you throughout the down times?

Gbam!!! Honourable off mic

Every nation, every man, every animal, is more concerned about their self interest. If you cannot trigger that "self interest" to tally with you/where you're going/ or your ultimate aim, you cannot win people over.

I never mentioned force.

It is called toasting.

Some people have flawed Impressions about others. It'll take the right words and enough time to finally get them to see the light.

You, as the one seeking to win them, have a lot of job to do. It is not begging. It is negotiation.

As for Eze or Olise. We need them. But we shouldn't be desperate or beg them. Especially Eze.

We should do our part, so that when the time comes, they'll not say we didn't reach out to them persistently.

You're proving my point.

Nigeria hasn't offered anyone jackshit. At least in recent memory. That is why they shouldn't feel entitled to anyone's loyalty. Don't you get?

My brother, feeling entitled to someone's loyalty and services especially when you contributed little to nothing to the person's growth or success is highly narcissistic. Take it to the bank.

Nope....you missed the point again.
It's not as if we're are entitled to their loyalty like you put it here. If we approached them and they refused, the most sane thing is to leave them alone and focus on those we have. And if they're willing to play for us,they must show their loyalty...yea
