This move by Uber is what we call retention strategy...they must have experienced increased patronage from drivers this period of bolt driver score wahala...so they are giving drivers reasons to stay put. The reason why Uber cant start showing destination is just because its a global practice...if not, them for just kill bolt totally by start showing where riders are heading to.

Good move. But Uber displays destination in California. So I think they can also try it in Lagos. Bolt will fizzle out.

I don’t really see the destination thing as issue sometimes, i always call to confirm destination before driving to PU.

Some people will purposely put Ago palace way, meanwhile they still dey go inside one dead street. If you can’t tell me the exact street you’re going i won’t show up to pick such rider.

.

They have restricted it back...what you get now is more of post code, just like in the UK ...

For example if you going to house of common in UK..what you will get see is SW1...

Though it's better than completely being in the dark...at least they can replicate same here using codes like:

ISL for island trips
BDG...for badagry related trips
LND....for mainland like yaba
ksf for kosofe...
Osh for oshodi isolo

Uber is just trying to limit driver rejecting trips anyhow. Same thing bolt dey try do ..but got theirs wrong

Yes o! Especially those ones wey wan use leg-over for driver.
Na Lagos we dey, one can’t be too careful. reasonable rider will tell you where he or she is headed. This enables the driver plan himself

I just got the mail now. Way to go Uber,Nigeria. 20% service charge is good.
You are now being dynamic and not rigid in your mgt policies. At least, you are getting minimum 500-1000 drivers back to your fold....

Even if Bolt reverse all their nonsense driver score, when the dust settles, Uber still gets to retain hundreds of drivers that defected from Bolt.

I'm happy Uber is responding. If you don't appreciate what you have, some other groups will accept them with open arms.

I appreciate that you are keying into this driver owned app.
Some of us will want to introduce a feature called a home zone.
Which will be an area enclosed by a certain radius say 15kilometers around a drivers address.
(Within the home zone it is assumed that the driver is familiar with most routes and the activities of law and traffic enforcement officers and know how to navigate around obstacles within homezones.
Within his homezone it will be assumed he knows how to move and handle emergencies like car troubles, location of nearest mechanic and other useful facilities.)
Drivers will be scored based on the amount of ride request they accept that originate and end within their home zones.
Any request that sends them outside of the home zone should not be mandatory and should incur a surge tarrif to encourage drivers to accept it and should be treated like an indriver request where all drivers see the request and compete to accept it.
After the first trip outside his home zone drivers can opt to continue receiving request outside his zone or be forewarded requests that take him back to his zone.
Towards night, drivers should automatically start receiving requests towards their homezone unless they opt to continue outside their homezones.
If enough drivers are not nearby to satisfy a given request then it should be treated like an indriver trip with surge factor added where all the nearest available drivers outside that area will see it and compete for it .

2 pickups longer than 5 kilometers will have the extra kilometers billed along with the trip or another mode of compensation worked out where the rider is not unfairly billed.
This is important cos it's easy for drivers to lose money on long pickups.

3 Minimum.fare should be N800

4 One inspection should be done yearly.

That's my 2 cents for now.
The last one is actually a quality control issue.

Nice idea but let me counter.

If we adapt this home zone idea who then will do trips within and to places luke satalight town, ojo, ikorodu, sango ota and other places... Mind you the app is not meant for Lagos alone so take for instance states like Edo State. Who will work in places like Epkoma, Ekhenwhan, and other inner places?

Though the home zone idea is great but should be limited to maybe once weekly or 2hrs in every 24hrs.

You may have a client that wants you to be within their drop off zone so you can easily go back to pickup after a particular time. because if you allow every driver to set a zone to work who do you think would want to work in ikorodu? Mower, Ojo LGA??

To me night trips should be more expensive, say all trips should c9me with 1.5xsurge to encourage and also to discourage night work and movement respectively.

yes and night trips should always come with surge and trips to the above areas u mention should always be on auto 1.9 X or nothing..most of the riders that complain abt driver cancellation or arrived and go offline are going to such forbidden areas , who go see berger to lekki or VI to ikeja and cancel? Infact na me go first call u so dat u don't change ur mind grin

Called a guy on Nairaland to renew my license (we all know 1-2 of those agent here), he told me straight say na 19k last…

Well I went online and apply myself with 10,600 naira.

I called the line on their website which a lady picked and told me to go after 3weeks. I choose not to recapture since it’s renewal not new one. Also, I choose closest pick up office to my area.

I did payment on Jan 23 license out yesterday. I didn’t pay anybody a dime just went to their office and frown my face collect my license and leave.

To the guy designing our app, I can assist in some graphics using Figma.

can we talk on whatsapp? all inputs are welcomed. No one knows it all

Must there be a rating? Abeg do we rate danfo drivers? grin

I don't see any sense in the S.O.S feature because normally in Nigeria we don't have security rescue, call 199 now and see weather you'll be attended to... So I think that feature is just a waste if time. Remove it!

The developer of any app should try and make it unique so it will ve easy to penetrate the market.

Ocar came with uniqueness and Bolt followed suit... Instant cash out and rider's destination feature.

Indriver came with its own uniquness- fix price... They re gradually gaining ground.

What benefits will both rider's and drivers have with this new app? Copy and paste won't do the magic...

There as to be a features that will attract riders and drivers otherwise, it will be dead on arrival.

To add to your point, let the set destination feature be similar with that of Uber and not like bolt that it's just 2 set destination trips one can do in a day. The idea behind this is for drivers not to filter trips too much leaving behind thw unfavourable route riders at bay. So in my own opinion 2 Per day is okay but it should be allowed to go through maybe after carryout some conditions. Like Numbers of trips, or completion rate wirhin a week.

If you're adapting the indriver pattern then I see no sense in set destination feature again.

Make the price fix but the total fair should be calculated by the app base on the distance and time taken for the trip.

Take for instance

Trip parameters.
Total distance: 20km
Est time for the trip: 45min
Price range: 2000-2800 naira
Amount selected by rider N2500

Actual.
Trip distance: 17km
Time: 35min
Amount paid: N2300.

What this means is that driver used a shorter route and completed trip in lesser time than expected. The fair estimate was actually 2000 to .2800... But rider was ready to pay a bit higher so it should be a win win situation for both parties. Rider will be happy they pay even less than what they budgeted but the reverse should be the case if the traffic is unfavourable.

E.g. trip distance: 20km
Time: 2hrs instead of 45min
Final fair should be higher for equity and fairness.

Also, this system should also come in when rider changes their mind to either change destination or not embark on the trip after going like 2km from PU.

My opinion.

Thanks for your input, the new app is not copy and paste, we are only looking at desirables and deliverables on all ends, one of the uniqueness of this new app will be the security features and follow up on drivers who taking trips to places flagged or suspected to be red zone. We may not divulge all here yet but definitely the house will be briefed before the lunching.
I think there should be rating but done in fairness. You will agree with me that the essence of rating is for moderation on not necessarily to punish drivers and just so you know it wont be ideal to allow some danfo driver kinda attitude.
Thanks once again for your brilliant contribution
