Russia vetoes U.N. Security Action On Ukraine As China Abstains by Mynd44: 7:31am On Feb 26, 2022
Russia vetoed a draft U.N. Security Council resolution on Friday that would have deplored Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, while China abstained from the vote - a move Western countries view as a win for showing Russia's international isolation.

The United Arab Emirates and India also abstained from the vote on the U.S.-drafted text. The remaining 11 council members voted in favor. The draft resolution is now expected to be taken up by the 193-member U.N. General Assembly.

"We are united behind Ukraine and its people, despite a reckless, irresponsible permanent member of the Security Council abusing its power to attack its neighbor and subvert the U.N. and our international system," U.S. Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield said after Russia cast its veto.

Russia is a Security Council veto power, along with the United States, China, France and Britain.

China's abstention comes just weeks after Beijing and Moscow declared a "no limits" partnership, backing each other over standoffs on Ukraine and Taiwan with a promise to collaborate more against the West.

Russia's U.N. Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia thanked the Security Council members who did not support the draft, which he described as anti-Russian.

"Your draft resolution is nothing other than yet another brutal, inhumane move in this Ukrainian chessboard," Nebenzia said after the vote.

There was a rare round of applause in the Security Council chamber after Ukraine's U.N. Ambassador Sergiy Kyslytsya held a moment of silence during his statement to remember those killed.

"I'm not surprised that Russia voted against. Russia is keen on continuing its Nazi-style course of action," he said.

'RUSSIA ISOLATED'

The U.N. vote was delayed two hours for last minute negotiations by the United States and others to win China's abstention, diplomats said.

The council softened the language in its resolution to say it "deplores" Russia's "aggression against Ukraine" from "condemns," while a reference to Chapter 7 of the U.N. Charter, which deals with sanctions and authorization of force, was removed along with a reference to "the president."

Russian President Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine as the U.N. Security Council met in New York late on Wednesday to try and defuse weeks of mounting tensions

"Make no mistake. Russia is isolated. It has no support for the invasion of Ukraine," Britain's U.N. Ambassador Barbara Woodward told the council after the vote.

The draft Security Council resolution demanded that Russia "immediately cease its use of force against Ukraine" and "immediately, completely, and unconditionally withdraw  all of  its military forces from the territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders."

The draft also demanded that Russia reverse its recognition of two separatist states in eastern Ukraine as independent.

"It is a matter of regret that the path of diplomacy was given up. We must return to it. For all these reasons India has chosen to abstain on this resolution," India's U.N. Ambassador T.S. Tirumurti told the council.

UAE Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh said her country supported the draft resolution's emphasis on abiding by international law and the U.N. Charter and was committed to the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of all U.N. member states.

Standing outside the Security Council chamber, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said: "We must never give up."

"It is important to remember that the U.N. is not just the chamber behind me. It is tens of thousands of women and men around the world," he said. "Standing, delivering, extending a lifeline of hope."

No sane person or country wanna associate with a disaster..I hope to see how Russia can keep on going with everyone against them..
Your economy is almost in shambles and you keep annexing forcefully without any reasonable plan..
The evil needs to be cut off from the world..

Ukrainians are determined not to give up so easily and that's a great one..this is pure bully nothing else.. Putin will forever be known as a weakling..a weakling who is good at bullying his little brother cos of his selfish benefit..

China's president ji xin peng's friendship with Valdimir Putin will not allow him vote against, but abstaining states the obvious that Putin is power drunk, and taking advantage of the vunerebility of Ukraine.

War is a no no..
But if you are forced to defend ur citizens against imminent danger and catastrophe you will have no other choice..

For peace to reign Ukrainian president should step down or avoid anything that has to do with NATO..

I bet you US will do same if Russia belongs to sth similar to NATO and Cuba is a member..

Abstaining no be support for Russia, China and India don't have fear of west so they got no reason to claim neutral

India would have given full yes if not they want to pay Ukraine for not supporting them

China
India
UAE
Abstained

Russia used it's veto and case closed.

The supporters are African puppet reps supporting the same way Goodluck Jonathan voted for No Fly Zone in Libya which was used as a pretext by America to destroy Libya which effects we are still suffering today.

In essence Russia has the Arabs, Chinese and Indians on their side and is in no way "isolated" contrary to CNN claims. These are the most populated countries in the world.
See those that voted in favour, they are NATO countries or a NATO created country like Albania after the fall of Yugoslavia.
Mexico which borders America and the African puppets who are just there to fill in the gaps

This has devolved into a squabble of hens. Whereas Ukraine is suffering.

The fact remains that other countries has seen how USA has handled its foreign policies and engagements and no one is willing to risk their necks. Other smaller countries are watching

Says who ? Is it China that has extended her trading ties with Russia making it easier to ease Russian sanctions.
China are already doing testing microphone in Taiwan airspace as at Thursday. Don’t let anyone deceive you. The World is blaming Russia but fail to drag NATO and the west for not fighting along with Ukraine. I just pity them.

China will always prefer Russia because the West have already boxed both countries.

Smaller nations with less resources are
surviving sanctions talk less of Russia.
Ukrainians will be at the losing End . The longer they stayed in war the more damage they receive at the end they’ll settle .

Only failed educated graduates are the ones that think China will join Russia in unreasonable fight against USA and the UK! If the US, Canada, the entire UK and EU ban only Chinese products from entering their domains, then the end is near for China.
Even in tech, if USA decided to stop supporting Chinese phones with android, Chinese phones might become the thing of the past like Blackberry phones.

It is pertinent to know that the so called world powerful nations are all guilty of the crime they are dragging Russia for. I'm not sounding supportive for Russia but let's always speak the truth without emotions.
The atrocities of UK and US in Iraq are still fresh in our memories.
The atrocities of NATO and the US in Libya are there for us to make reference to.
The atrocities of Isreal over Palestine and their forceful occupation of Golan Height can never be forgotten
That of China over minority Uighor Muslims is there for us to see.

None of world powerful nation would dealer drinking party if they were in the shoes of Russia. Have we all forgotten how The US treated Cuba because hey allow a planned USSR military base which us perceived as a potential means of attacking her?

We should all calm down and seek peace irrespective of who's ore is gored.
