2021 NLNG prize winner, Onyemelukwe, confirms father’s killing The father of the winner of the 2021 NLNG Prize for Nigerian Literature, Professor Isaiah Onyemelukwe, has been killed by gunmen His daughter, Prof Cheluchi, who confirmed the incident to Sunday PUNCH on Saturday, said, “My heart is heavy. It is the hardest thing that Nigeria happed to my father. We don’t even know where we are headed in this country, but I’m glad he lived an exemplary and lesson-filled life will try to put up something tomorrow.” It was learnt that Onyemelukwe, an 88-year-old retired professor of Economics at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, on Friday in Oko, in the Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State. Multiple sources said the gunmen blocked vehicles coming from Umunze, Ufunma into Oko, and murdered the professor in cold blood. It was gathered that the operation lasted for more than an hour unhindered. The assailants were also said to have abducted two other individuals whose whereabouts have remained unknown. A Facebook user with the name, moniker Onyi, who shared the news in a post on Nairaland, wrote, “South-East is absolutely going down. My godfather was recently murdered by the marauding killers wreaking havoc on the South-East’s ecosystem. “He was returning to Nanka with his wife from Enugu and decided to follow the Oji-Ufuma-Amaokpala-Oko axis instead of traveling through Awka when he was attacked by the hoodlums. “The previous Bishop of Niger, Bishop J. A. Onyemelukwe, is his cousin. May his soul rest in peace. Amen!” The late professor was a permanent secretary in the old Anambra. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, promised to get back to our correspondent but had yet to do so as of press time. https://punchng.com/2021-nlng-prize-winner-onyemelukwe-confirms-fathers-killing/?utm_term=Autofeed&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook&fbclid=IwAR00gOYukRu8H0i6a3T5SdkR4K4Ap-QvXB0FBTdBLjOjiImTrwh4QCfha4Y#Echobox=1645939706 |

Obiano is busy dancing while lives entrusted to him are being wasted like flies... What a Governor who can't secure people's lives and properties. And someone above is trying so hard to link Fulani to Ipob killings. Until they murder your relatives you will realize that your Fulani rhetorics has reached your doorstep through the known killer Ipob. 8 Likes 2 Shares |

And where in the report was it confirmed that he was killed by IPOB? And why would IPOB kill an 88yr Old retired professor. Firstly they started with unknown gunmen attacking their police stations and releasing prisoners and tagging it IPOB,igbos didn't buy it, then they killed traditional rulers thinking that it will make igbos rise up against IPOB, still they were disappointed.now the latest is to go after statesmen and business men. And all these started after that incident were fulanis were chased away from the bushes they were occupying illegally by ESN. They same way God is shaming abba kyari is the same way he is going to shame all of them involved in these killings. 1 Like |

The op of this thread need to be fished out and investigated for possible collusion with murderers and killers called unknown gunmen. He gets the news before it breaks, he announces the news with a desperate attempt to link IPOB-ESN to it and before you would say Jack Robinson, he has announced another. That is all he does. This op looks like a dangerous human being.. 1 Like 1 Share |

Prominent people are being wasted, something is not right. This is done not to help the Igbo case . Something has to be done . If it means stopping sit at home and any other Biafra related activities then so be it . Most of these people being killed fought for Biafra 1.0 and are now being killed by a generation that did not witness the first Biafra. This is a big issue 4 Likes |

the question remains why will they kill him. what was his offense? like I said before, I don't believe esn will just wake up and start killing people at random. even armed robbers don't just go on a killing spree. and like I said before people like me and many igbos don't reason like a cow. somebody is after igbos and igbo land. same tactic they deployed last year when anambra state elections was close by and shortly after election loss, everything came back to normal. they're now deploying similar tactics for reasons known to them. Killing prominent igbos and labelling it ipob and esn killings just to tarnish igbo people's image nationally. don't tell me Kanu that is under dss still gives command to ESN whatever. but whatever tactic they bring it's already dead on arrival because it'll be busted as usual. Willie Obiano the CSO of Anambra state knew that most killings during pre Anambra election time was never ipob but political. same thing is repeating itself but I have this message for them. you guy will be exposed, both you and your ugly motives for igbos. where is Abba Kyari today? whoever told him that his numerous atrocities will be exposed one day will he believe the person judging the fact that he controls a highly intelligence unit of police. but today the Lord God Almighty exposed him and he has been reduced to nothing but a mere criminal. that's how God will expose those behind the insecurity in my region. they might think it's impossible judging from the fact they're backed by powerful people and politicians but God will show his might soon. Igbos can never be subdued. God bless umu Igbo 3 Likes |

kettykin: Prominent personalities are being killed to draw the ire of the people against any separatist movements. This has gone beyond IPOB-ESN. Unfortunately, the guys at IPOB have not been able to domesticate a very rigid narrative against the unknown gunmen since Kanus capture...Right from the imposition of Hope Uzodinmgba and the jail break in Imo State, it has been bedlam...., these are all well tailored moves to cause chaos and force people to revolt against those parroting separatist ideologies in Igbo land. Just tell me, why would someone kill Dr Chike Akunyili to get Biafra!? Does that make sense to you? |
