Ideally, airlines are not meant to delay or cancel flights without tendering apologies to their customers, just that we overlook too many things in Nigeria.

From the look of things, the Emir's cousin is a pilot and he knows the rules which he can use against Allen Onyema's Air peace and get the airline sanctioned, so the ideal thing would be for Air peace management to tender the apology to not only the Emir but everyone affected.

Who told you that Air Peace cancelled any flight?

Your mouth dey smell.

Airpeace neither delayed flights nor did they cancel flights that the Emir wanted to board. The bone of contention here is that Airpeace refused to delay the flight for the Emir hence an "insult" to the Emir. But there is nothing wrong in flying on schedule.

So Emir was late for his flight? Was that the problem? Did he miss the flight?

If he was late for his flight, what’s the demand for the airline and Onyeama to apologise to the emir all about. I’m still confused here.

On the case...the request made by the Emir's entourage was risky. You cannot, i repeat...cannot stop a plane once it is in the taxiing mode.

Yet that is what they wanted to do. Air peace was right to deny their request.

Air peace even offered them free pass on the next flight self. More than they do for regular passengers. And they still refused

A similar thing happened in South Korea. The daughter of the founder and CEO of an airline ordered a plane in taxi mode back into the hangar because 'she did not get her fave brand of peanuts, or something). That nearly caused a crisis at the airport and put people at risk. The woman who was also an exec at the airline, had to apologise, and was punished by the law. What she did was wrong.

Air peace acted in good faith.

While I think that the Emir was out of line...this one wey you blame North for everything...e get as e be

1,Nigeria airways failed because people treated it like a social service, instead of like a proper airline. When Nigerians of all tribes were as early as 1982 not paying for excess luggage....how do you expect the airline to run profitably?

2.NEPA failed because we were doing like the man who spends N200 making a pen in his pen factory, and selling that pen at N50 and boasting of a profit. Meanwhile, 40% of his customers take the pen for free.

Right now, we are selling one kwh of power for N41-71, which costs N80 and above to make. And that is how we were doing before privatisation...plus people were refusing to pay for power used. Northerners did not cause that.

3.NTA is bad and has always been bad...even when it had the monopoly . And it is bad because its budget is low (sometimes as low as 2-3 million dollars.) Same for most African public broadcasters (except possibly SABC, and even then it was because they had to compete with the private sector from the 1980's onwards, so they had to up their game).

No money=no facilites=no quality programmes.

At least NTA has managed to in the last 12 years develop about three to five extra channels, and then there is the international channel. (Among them is NTA education...previously educaitonal progamming on NTA in the 1980's was about 2 to 3 hours, one hour some days self)

4.Sports ministry, the same. Not enough money, not enough sponsorship. And most of the money goes disproprtionately to football. Also, education spending is poor, which means schools cannot organise sport activites, and training institues cannot train enough PE teachers. All our past successes were due to us spending a lot on a minority of athletes, and hoping they would do well...and yes, it is present in MOST african countries as well.

Stop blaming tribes. If I blamed your tribe for Nigeria's problem, you won't like it.

Quit giving lame excuses my friend.
Nothing the Nigerian government runs ever succeeds. It's always tales of gross wastage/inefficiency, massive corruption, and nepotism before it goes moribund.

By the way, government's fundamental role should be regulating, while the actual service delivery should be ceded to private organizations.

What nonsense are you talking about.

A whole BA delayed our flight and never apologized to anybody. Even those that couldnt wait and booked another flight later filed for reimbursement and didn't get it, they cited the fact that the flight later left, that they ought to have waited.

The only message we got was normal flight delay message.

Many Northerners are cavemen, they ought to be living with Talibans in Afghanistan who have the same reasoning like them.

Some people still trying to be above the law.

Same "I too big" attitude that destroyed Nigerian Airways and NEPA, same attitude that killed NTA, same attitude that scattered the sports ministry.

This section of the country who loves to delay others by forcing everyone to endure their backwardness should return to the part of Africa where they joined Nigeria from.
Obviously you know nothing about flight delays and rules.
Air peace should have delayed the flight because they have 10 passengers that are due on that flight and it was rhdit fault for the previous flight delay.
If you are catching a flight to Lagos on Delta airlines via Atlanta which I do very very frequently, but your flight was delayed in Baltimore for example, they will openly or tactically delay the Lagos flight for the other passengers.
May be not for a single person but for 10 passengers they will delay especially if it's only for an hour.
They might make up an excuse or just let you know that they are waiting for more passengers.
I'm a frequent flyer and I have seen this happen many times.
Look at the situation objectively instead of looking at it from a tribal perspective.
The man making the complaint knows the rules, he's a pilot himself.

What are you saying?

Do you realize that it was the Emir that allegedly wanted Airpeace to delay a flight that was already prepared to take off?

If Airpeace's side of the story is true, then they absolutely do not need to apologise. Should they apologise to the Emir for coming behind schedule?

Who cares if the Emir's cousin is a pilot? If Airpeace has done nothing wrong as they claim, them they shouldn't apologise publicly. They should resolve the situation in private.

Modified: I just read Bayero's reply. If truly it was Air Peace that delayed the Emir's flight from Banjul to Lagos, then they should find a way to resolve this. They should apologise if they need to because that's the genesis of this whole thing.

Both parties should be sincere and own up to their faults. There's no need to fight over this.

It's the delayed Banjul to Lagos flight by Air peace that caused the Lagos to Kano palava with the Emir. I guess they had to pay extra money to lodge at a hotel and that's likely the reason they are demanding apology.

Was the Banjul flight delayed to await the arrival of an individual of for technical reasons? Have you ever heard of a flight delay occasioned by any other thing besides technical or operational hitches?

...and have you read the part of the story where the Air Peace's CEO offered the Emir and his entourage a FREE flight to Abuja instead, where they would connect with another kano-bound one the same day rather than stop and call back an already taxiing aircraft, but which Isa BAyero rejected?

For the sake of peace, air peace should give them the apology. But once that is done, they should immediately cut off all flying route to kano. Its issues like this that hinder our growth as a nation.
This your advise no make sense. Why give an apology (if they are right) and intend to not fly the Kano routes again. Then why ass kiss?
Air Peace should just face front and keep doing its business. If the Emir’s PA or the people of Kano choose to be unreasonable, then let them.

Hasn't a Nigerian pilot done the right thing ? As well as a Nigerian airline? (Air peace)?
