FEGEITOK: This is exactly what they told me too but I don't know how true it is. Therefore, we must question the process. They said the surface must be rough plastered before tiles for proper adherence, being that block surfaces are relatively smooth. They could be speaking from experience or long held tradition of doing things. However, in research there are basically 3 knowledge areas to consider before any knowledge could be acceptable to be translated into practice; experience of the professional, best practice from reviewed sources and actual works (trails) that have performed under replicable condition. In this case, it appears 2 out of the 3 translational criteria could be said to have been fulfilled. The third is missing. And this is a critical aspect The Bricklayer's experience and actual works done part is fulfilled. Therefore, additional information is needed from reviewed sources to draw conclusion on whether the practice is backed by informed knowledge, rather than tradition. This is when you need people with PhD in Material Science. They conduct the research, and the work is peer reviewed and then published for translation into practice. This is to ensure effective and quality service delivery aimed at guiding standards, reducing cost and material waste. Any answer you would get here now is going be one of those "na so we dey do am, e go work" Why do you need an advanced degree in your field, this is it why do you need to attend seminars in your profession. this is it why do you need to invest in educational materials, eg online library subscription and your professional body magazines. this is it Why do you need to join a professional body, this is it I found this research article on the topic - Adhesion of ceramic tile block coating system on concrete wall by Camacho et al., (2020). https://doi.org/10.1016/j.conbuildmat.2020.118278. The work in this article is very extensive. It looks into 4 events - tiles detachment, plaster detachment, wall rapture and noise emission It is not an open source article. Therefore, can only be accessed through your library or purchased online. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Good attempt but “red piller” has a more robust definition on Nairaland from what is mainstream and textbook. Your definition is more textbook but your last line is certainly accurate and I completely agree with it . I’ll be back with the Nland version which is more applicable to what we see on this site. sonnie10: **updated** Like a lot of things, the Nairaland definition of red piller is not mainstream nor a standard textbook definition. Instead it has been defined to fit into the misogyny demonstrated by (thankfully) a small group of men. These men have typically been born and raised in the most rural lands and imbibe misogyny early on in life. Men that were born and raised in the large cities are much less likely to exhibit the behaviour. The trait is much harder to find in happy, accomplished men. On Nland, the term “red piller “ refers to certain peculiar traits displayed on here and these traits are demonstrated by the men that propagate red piller rhetoric. Common traits of Nairaland red pillers include but are not limited to: - A discomfort with females that appear to be well educated or accomplished or knowledgeable in male dominated domains like wealth building and decision making. - They are the vocal minority. Most respectable men like my husband and brothers and other hardworking achievers cannot be found espousing red piller ideology, online or offline. - A belief that their gender automatically makes them superior to not only their romantic partners but all Naija females. - An intolerance of successful, accomplished females since most red pillers are under achievers. - Their God given gender is seen as their greatest success and the biggest thing they have going. - A comfort with sexism towards female folk and a vocabulary that seeks to denigrate the female gender’s real or imagined inadequacies. Words like diabolic, bitter, dumped, witch, broke, divorced, etc and references to female genitaliaaaa as well as any words they believe would embarrass their own rural image of a traditional subservient Naija female. Nairaland red pillers cut across generations but the central theme is the same. 2 Likes |

Yes Sire, I was just following your leadership since you were willing to give us your view on the red piller topic. Construction as well as “off topics “ on this off topic thread are always welcome. I’m not building but I have questions about the flooding of Old Ikoyi with highrise flats. Anyone with knowledge or deep insight that could take a deep dive into this ? 3 Likes |

@Olatunji67POP: Why did you allow those ?POP cement to make direct contact with your skin/face? Have you done any research/study on their possible health effects(both short & long terms)? Some of these chemicals can cause skin cancers, and when that happens, we blame 'village' people. Someone has previously raised issues about how Nigerian artisans don't invest on the right tools That also applies to work-related protective gadgets and other preventive measures. I hate it when i see our mechanics' hands look so dirty and as black as charcoal, because they prefer using bare hands instead of protective gloves. We just need a change of mentality in the way we do things in Nigeria. 4 Likes |

Olatunji67POP:let me tell you a small secret. The clients won't appreciate a dirty artisan. It makes you look unkept, wasteful and crude. If you can't keep the cement away from your body, how can you ensure that it will not extend to the windows and doors thereby creating a post cleaning wahala for the client. All the cement on your body would have been useful on where they're meant for. If you spent all these on your body, which one go come remain for the work. Some artisans leave site without washing and they still look neat. Why can't you be such artisans 5 Likes |
