I don't think this is coming from Buhari. He is not even aware Nigeria is on planet earth. We are on autopilot. 1 Like |

ityP: I don't think so, we don't have to say but his actions has been against enshrining democratic tendencies in the country. He had 7 years to make this possible but rejected several acts of the electoral laws passed by the 8th and 9th national assembly just because he wanted to benefit from the shady way elections are conducted in Nigeria. One of those times he rejected the electoral laws his reason was that there was a typo error in the document, he refused to sign not because of the typo error but because of electronic transmission of result. The only reason he signed this one was solely on the basis that it was his last chance to do so, anything short of signing would have passed the barton to the 10 national assembly and the new administration. Nevertheless, signing was still in the positive. 1 Like |

yemmit90: If he had rejected that bill because of that clause, Nigerians would still be the one to say he is anti democratic. The most sensible thing which he did was sign first and then amend that portion later. 1 Like |

There is nothing wrong in asking political appointees to resign their appointments before seeking elective offices. The National Assembly should reject the president’s request. 1 Like |

ityP: There is no flaw in that logic, it is not every perk that the President enjoys under our laws that are extended to his appointees. Agreed, he is more powerful, but he was elected to that position to server a particular fix amount of time/year by the constitution of this country and that time cannot be abridged by an ACT, his appointees were not elected, they serve at his pleasure. This perk does not only apply to the President, it is also applicable to all Elected Officials even ward Counselors, because they are protected by law to server their full tenure unless otherwise ordered by a court of competent jurisdiction. |

Re: Again, Buhari Asks National Assembly To Amend Electoral Act by dalongjnr: 8:57pm On Mar 01, 2022 |
tnerro1:Probably,getting a second opinion from the ministry of justice and attorney general's office and his legal team,to avoid legal fireballs between the act and the constitution. |
