Someone should please educate me on this. Why is it so difficult for us to have refineries where we can do our own thing? Why do we have to export to refine and then import it again? Exporting, refining and importing the product back to the country will definitely cost more. Having a refinery here will save us all these stress. What kinda country is this? I'm tired of this place o. No electricity, no petrol, nothing is working. Frustration everywhere. Country with a lot of natural resources and her citizens are suffering like there is no tomorrow. Isn't this a curse? Wtf |

Why are there no working refineries? I wonder how Bubu's supporters sleep with their dead conscience! This a government that can borrow money for underutilized projects but can't borrow to revive and build refineries! Excuses upon excuses, it's all so tiring. I hope APC goons use their party ID cards or online login details to buy cheaper |

backbencher: The pHC & kaduna refinery were working until buhari came into power. At least they were producing AGO & PMS that helped those region out. The truth is that this govt did not put it as a priority to refine our crude locally. Even though the subsidy may deter foreign investors what about local investors? Why not give banks power to build and run refineries? Or empower them to grant credit facilities to smes willing to invest in the refinery biz with the banks owning a sizeable share in such companies since they have proven control mechanisms that prevent fraud? This is crude that the biafrans were refining during the war in the mid 60's oo. Such a failed state |

oliverwrites: A refinery needs to make a profit to run well. You cannot have a profitable refinery without removing subsidies and allowing the refinery to make a profit. If you support subsides for refinery, you should support government making the price of rice 1000 a bag. How would the sellers make the profot they need to pay their suppliers? |

A country that spends billions on salaries and maintenance of non-functional refineries but still imports fuel! Chai! |
Re: Petrol Scarcity To Linger As Cargoes Are ‘Stranded’ by Nobody: 9:05am On Mar 03, 2022 |
oluwaahmed: Actually both ph and kaduna were not working to full capacity or less than half capacity By 2011, out of a capacity of 40 million liters of fuel, 6 million were produced domestically. Kaduna was down by 2015. Inability to pipe the thing You don't allow refineries to run at a profit, that is what ye get |

Fuel price is now 200/L and this lies will be needed to keep the pump price at 200/L. We need sincerity in this nation. |

backbencher:Nigerians are right not to trust any of the idiotas who parade themselves as politicians. When they were increasing under le shoeless was that they were buying some stupid buses where are the buses today? Under Bubu it was cos of the price in the world market. When the price goes down we feel nothing but suffer immediately it goes up. What does the populace gain from the government actually. |

A country that export crude oil to import refined products of the same exported oil is a complete vision less country it's like russia exporting wheat, flour or grains to us to import our bread from us which we all know is not possible....... They should continue las las when we are tired we will tell ourselves the simple truth.. |
Re: Petrol Scarcity To Linger As Cargoes Are ‘Stranded’ by Nobody: 9:37am On Mar 03, 2022 |
oliverwrites:. Subsidy is not a bad idea, but it has to be funded directly from taxes, rather than from crude oil revenue like we do here. Also, democracy is hard work. That people don't loot in the developed world is because people there do the hard work of democracy. Here we just vote , get our side into power, and go home. What does the populace gain from the government actually. Education is heavily subsidsied (that's why someone going to a government school pays next to nothing compared to someone going to a private school, where fees can be hundreds of thousands of naira or more) so also is health care (which is why a caesarean in a government hospital is not costing something like. 5-10 million naira, Also power is subsidsied. We are paying for power at a rate lower than its cost of production (and people who get less than 6 hours of power pay less per kwh compared to those who get 18-24 hours.) |
Re: Petrol Scarcity To Linger As Cargoes Are ‘Stranded’ by Nobody: 9:39am On Mar 03, 2022 |
Tonymegabush1: We are in this position because we don't want to tell ourselves the truth, that if we allow domestic refining, we won't pay anything less than N300 per liter of fuel, or more. Good PMS is expensive. |
Re: Petrol Scarcity To Linger As Cargoes Are ‘Stranded’ by Tonymegabush1(m): 9:47am On Mar 03, 2022 |
backbencher: If so as you claimed that good pms is expensive, at least let's produce the type we are importing which should be less expensive. Left for me Nigeria should have most 10 refineries working which I know we can still export our Pms to neighbouring countries after refining. |
Re: Petrol Scarcity To Linger As Cargoes Are ‘Stranded’ by Nobody: 9:50am On Mar 03, 2022 |
Tonymegabush1: 1.Type we are importing is bad quality (we refine it in substandard refineries aboard to save costs), but even then, it cannot cost less than N200 at that 2. Refining it in standard refinery...maybe above N300 (Niger has a standard refinery, and they sell at N350, and yes, they are an oil producing country) Left for me Nigeria should have most 10 refineries working which I know we can still export our Pms to neighbouring countries after refining. Yes, but they have to make a profit to work very well...which means no subsidy, and no government setting the price. |

Re: Petrol Scarcity To Linger As Cargoes Are ‘Stranded’ by Tonymegabush1(m): 10:01am On Mar 03, 2022 |
backbencher: Time has come for government to do away with subsidy if actually it exists, because I know they do so to regulate pms price thus a uniform selling price, whereas state ABCD.....K should be selling virtually same price. I still don't get the logic behind that. |
Re: Petrol Scarcity To Linger As Cargoes Are ‘Stranded’ by Nobody: 10:05am On Mar 03, 2022 |
Tonymegabush1: 1.Subsidy exists, because the landing cost of petrol (as at 3 weeks ago) was N282 naira. and they are selling it at N162-5 officially. In Jan 2012, it was N65 at the pump, N99 landing cost If they were not paying a subsidy, NNPC would have collapsed since 2010, if not earlier. 2.Agree 100% they should remove subsidy, and yes, prices will differ from state to state (Part of the subsidy costs goes to paying for subsiding transport of fuel costs) |

This is the plague of having"leaders" who do not wish Nigeria and Nigerians well since they are not directly affected by whatever wrong policy they formulate. They've just increased the pump price of petrol through the back door and at the end of this scarcity/price hike, huge sums would be paid as petroleum subsidy to the cabal in the petroleum sector. What a country! |

Re: Petrol Scarcity To Linger As Cargoes Are ‘Stranded’ by Nobody: 10:27am On Mar 03, 2022 |
Tonymegabush1: Probably All in all, let fuel be refined and sold at a profit. That's my policy. |
Re: Petrol Scarcity To Linger As Cargoes Are ‘Stranded’ by Tonymegabush1(m): 10:35am On Mar 03, 2022 |
backbencher: Nigeria should refine their petroleum products so that we should do away with fuel scarcity which may necessitate hoarding. Most motorist buy fuel at 250-300, black market goes as high as #500. If nigeria can/would produce and still sell at 180-200 to me it's a fair price at least the issues of non availability should be dealt with... Thanks for your time 1 Like |
