Canada has joined European countries in announcing looser entry and residency requirements for Ukrainians, offering access to their country to an unlimited number of Ukrainians fleeing their war-torn country. Canada’s immigration minister, Sean Fraser, said Canada was waiving fees and most of its visa requirements for Ukrainian nationals, though applicants will still need to fill out an application form and submit fingerprints and other biometric information. Ukrainians will also have to pass a background check to get a two-year visa. Canada is home to one of the largest populations of people of Ukrainian origin outside of Ukraine and Russia, and the new measures include an expanded family sponsorship program that would allow Canadians to bring more relatives here than allowed under current rules. Traffic jams have choked roads in Kyiv as people try to flee Russia's pressing assault.
