I'm going to share an unpopular but common sense opinion. Mega cities/planned cities are a waste of money and they hurt a place economically, culturally, and governmentally more than they help. They all fail. There is no successful planned mega cities in the world. A city grows naturally into mega-city status because the demand to live there and its economic purpose and positioning. The Dubai everyone is following is currently failing. By the time 'mega cities' reach livability all of the glitz and glam that make them matter is outdated. Once it's outdated, the hype dies soon after. Without the hype you have overpriced empty buildings. Take the money and enhance what you already have and every city will have all of the 'good' of a mega city + a currently existing city has proven that it has it's own lifeblood outside of the hype of being new and shiny.

Even China has realized it's a mistake and is scaling back on mega planned cities. Enhance the cities you already have. Cities become 'mega' when they're supposed to.

Oguta already have settlement. Most cities in Europe did not come out organically, they were planned and buiilt from scratch.

Port Harcourt, Aba, Awka, were cities that are built from scratch. Have they failed?

what do you mean by mega city? The guy was talking about smart city u are saying a different thing, it's only in Nigeria u will see people buying lands and building nonsense that is why our buildings keeps collapsing and poor roads and open drainages everywhere. Look at Egypt and South Africa and other norther African countries this people their cities looks like Europeans why? Because they follow European style of development. U can never compare any nigerian cities to those countries. If govt can not build let them map out lands creat streets construct under ground drainages, pave walkways plant trees maybe underground electric wires then tell people what they can build and how to build it, look at how owerri is developing unplanned apart from ikenegbu other places isn't planned base on streets. South African govt are building more cities and expanding some Egypt is building new capital city and more cities. When you travel u know that our cities is complete sithole even lagos is nothing compare to other African countries

PLEASE DO NOT MENTION Awka AS A PLANNED CITY !!! Awka is the worst capital in Nigeria. It is so unplanned that some houses are backing the street, some houses have their sides facing the street while others face the street. 98% of Awka streets are unplanned with open gutter full of water. There is no particular Government area. Whenever they think out any big government structure, they situate it wherever there is open space be it near the dirty Eke Awka Market or gully erosion sites or near a warehouse or industry (e.g ICC )
Awka is like Onitsha in people's behaviour but not as planned as Onitsha though unmaintained. Owerri has New Owerri, Ebonyi has the New Ochudo Centenary City and Enugu has the Government House and GRA areas well mapped out.
Anambra needs to do a lot to have a new befitting capital city area far from the slums of the natives and everyday people but I think it is too late.

You ediots just camp here to always spew your envy.

Awka is a well planned city and fastest developing city in Nigeria aside Abuja. Awka has Awka Millennium city which is the best in igboland. Awka ICC is the best and biggest not just in igboland but Nigeria. It has other new estates like Dubai estate, Efab, Genesis city, Serena city., etc. As far as real estate is concerned in igboland, Awka tops the list.

Enugu is an unplanned jungle littered with slums from Obiagu to Asata to Emene to Uwani, etc. Enugu is the worst state capital in Nigeria considering that it had been the regional center and benefited so much over the years during regional administration. Ogbete market which is the only market in enugu is a mess where faeces litter everywhere.

Owerri is a glorified village littered with bad roads and filthy environment.

Onitsha is the economic capital of Igbo and most planned igbo city.

Overall, Anambra is the best and most developed state in igboland.
