Please i need assistance on this predicament. I tried to renew via IW and was refused. When my passport came back, i was asked to come on any thursday with a cost estimate and budget for my proposed medical treatment. I was beyond shocked because i didn't apply for a medical visa. I went back and checked my DS160 application and found out i clicked B2 in error instead of B1/B2. My previous visas were B1/B2. How can i remedy this situation? Any advise will be highly appreciated,please

Flipped through my passport. I have an expired UK visa, 2 expired Schengen visas and one year valid Schengen visa.
VO: Did you travel with your family?
Me: No. Children were in school.
VO: Visa not approved. You can reapply.
Me: Thank you. I waka comot jejely. Lol.

Apparently, she wasn't happy that I didn't use the last visa. But I can't travel without a purpose.

You should have told her why it was impractical if you to use your previous visa - like event was canceled and thanks to Covid, traveling internationally was not a viable option either.

When you applied for the last visa, what did you state as your purpose for traveling? If it was to attend that conference, did you get any notification directly from the organizers that the conference would be cancelled due to COVID or you just read it online?
Did you make any payment to attend the conference or it was open to the general public for free?
I’m asking these questions with your next application in view? Even if you say you are going for vacation (of course, your travel history across Europe lends credence to your integrity as a “non-migration seeking traveler”) it’s important you give a closure to this failed application.

You can say that you made an error in your visa selection and that you meant to select B1/B2 category since your travel purpose is tourism. Knowing how those guys think, they will assume this excuse is an afterthought and may tell you to reapply choosing the right category…but it’s still wise to be honest with them. You’ve made a genuine error, stick with that narrative. If you want to start making fictitious hospital appointments, you’ll be digging more holes that can backfire.

Your honesty may earn you sympathy and favor. You can make vacation enquiry in the meantime. Where are you going to visit? Where are you going to stay? How long will you stay? Give specific details when asked. Show that your purpose is tourism and back it with details of your preparation…

Thanks for your response. I dont intend to make ficticious hospital appointments. I dont have a medical condition, neither am i pregnant. My fear is that they may say i want to use their faciities for free and decided to change to B1/B2 when B2 didnt work out. But then, a pre requisite for IW is that you have to be renewing the same type of previous visa, i havent applied for a B2 before and my duration says 3 weeks. It was just a mistake. A very costly one ....

I think you should engage the embassy before going on any Thursday to understand why an assumption was made you have the intention to seek medical treatment. This is important as they wont approve any B class visa for birth purposes right now. Only other medical reasons.

B2 is not in error if you intended to go for vacation or tourism.

Your previous visa would have been either B1 or B2, not both, BUT the embassy annotates it as B1/B2 on the printed visa. In the system, it's either or, and not both.

If you can send an email or if there is a ticket support system, do that first.

Your application also wasn't refused. Otherwise, you wouldn't be asked to come with documents. A refusal doesn't give you an opportunity to come back any Thursday of your choice (VIP moves), so no predicament yet.

If you are unable to engage them, or will rather not, then go on a Thursday of your choice and calmly explain you have no medical condition requiring 'medical visa'. Have your proposed vacation or tourism plans in the same breathe and tell them.

All things being equal, you'd be approved.

Picked my passport on Wednesday and it says come to the embassy any thur btw 6:39 to 9:30
I went the following day 10/03.

There were a lot of denial for those that stayed longer than they filled on the ds 160
Those that their families went and never returned so many things , a couple was banned for life from the US . Pregnant woman denied that it is no longer allowed to give birth in the US and many more
All of us were under 221g

You may need the correspondence in future.

She's in school is the truth. Its not compulsory a child travels with a parent.

Call up the one you filled previously and select the “retrieve old application” option…then edit it (mind you, the system will generate a new DS160 confirmation number)….
You then log on to the interview portal and click on the “update profile” option to enter the new DS160 confirmation number…

Revert to the platform if you still have problems..

I have someone who submitted IW on the 3rd of March. She was denied (7th march) and up till now she has not received a message to pick up her passport. Her status shows passport still with US consulate. Please what can she do?

If one's parent is in this situation, and you have reasons for overstaying, will explaining the reason help, cos my mum overstayed the last time

The main problem the VO stated is she said she was spending 3weeks and spent 4months in 2017. She told her to always say 4months if she wants to stay 4months
