The Bible intake about blood, it doesn’t have anything to do with the modern practice of blood transfusions.
Sometimes it’s been interpreted that the biblical law against eating blood means that people also shouldn’t have blood transfusions. A look at the verses about blood in the Bible shows that this wasn’t the intent of the law. The command was a prohibition against customs that pagan nations around Israel were using in their worship of idols and false gods. This type of pagan worship sometimes involved drinking the blood of animals in the belief that the worshiper would receive strength through the blood.

Genesis 9 vs4
Leviticus 17 vs 10
Act 15 vs 29

Should A Wife Be Allowed To Take A Big Decision Without Informing Her In-law?

Good afternoon everybody.i will make this short as possible.

A friend of mine just died in luth (cause of that was anemia). He was operated upon and they told his wife to get blood (2 r.o) for transfusion after the procedure but due to being a jehova witness she decided not to get the blood (jehova witness don't take blood,is against there faith).

She had a back and forth about the blood with the doctors and was asked to sign incase anything happen which she sign without the husband family knowledge....it was only her and her fellow jehova witness that took the decision.

He passed away this midnight, she called her in-law to inform them and I also got the information from the deceased younger brother.

On getting here the family found out the surgery was successful but he died of anemia, the doctors told them it was the wife decision not to get him blood against there prescriptions and infact she signed taking responsibility if anything happens.

A serious fight is happening here, the family are claiming she killed there son which I totally agree to as well.

So this my question, should a wife be allowed to take such a big decision without informing the husband family first.

Note; it was her in-laws that were paying the hospital bills.
if he will eventually make heaven so be it but who knows?

Many nairalanders are unimaginably ignorant....
They know nothing about Jehovah's witnesses, just hear say...

They also think blood transfusions save lives....
They also seem not to understand the concept of 'consent'

Or that in emergency situations where an individual is unconscious, decisions will need to be made in his or her behalf ...most likely by the spouse if married

It's better to listen objectively based on the facts of the matter rather than emotionally

Being in charge of the bills does not give one legal guardianship so the in-laws are wrong in assuming they should have been consulted on the matter. So the in-laws should probably work on accepting their loss and moving on from this. undecided

. The witnesses believe that there should be no transfusion for the child but the law was against it. That's what I mean.

That was why the state took over the treatment of the baby and administered blood transfusion to the little girl.
If the baby had died, the state would have charged her because they said she shouldn't make such decisions for a minor as the child belongs to the state, her being the parent notwithstanding.

They also said that it's only a grown adult that can personally make such decisions for himself or herself only as the case may be and that such decisions can't be made by proxy.
It can only be recognized like in the case of that dead man if he had made a written instructions prior to his being unconscious.
Where this is not done, the state makes the decision as the decision maker in a matter that has to do with life taking.
1. Charged her for what exactly? Not saying "yes" to blood transfusion on form that makes it optional to get a blood transfusion in the first place? undecided

The state rightly stepped in on behalf of the minor, this after taking over custody of the child. However, unless the state changed the law so that JWs are no longer able to force their decisions as adults on their children, this issue will be revisited again and soon too. undecided

A parents holy or righteousness standing before Jehovah makes them holy before him (1 Cor 7.12-14). Even one parent, not even 2, righteous standing before is enough to make them holy.

This will be so until when they are old enough to start "carrying their own load" (Galatians 6:5)
So where Jesus Christ, the one who is God's own New Covenant and Law in the Kingdom of God, said, more than twice that everyone must be born-again in order to enter into the Kingdom of God, you are instead saying that Paul, a mere man, created for you lot a way around the Word of God Himself? undecided

I am afraid you have been deceived. There are no such thing as Holy Parents, that idea was of the Old Covenant Law of Moses, and those who were descended from the blood of Jacob as expressed in Malachi, and not of Jesus Christ who instead warned that your marriages are of this world and not of the Kingdom of God - Luke 20 vs 34 - 36. And the rule according to Jesus Christ is no one can enter the Kingdom of God unless he/she believes and is born-again. That rule applies to everyone, even those born to those who are followers of Jesus Christ. undecided

Again, Holy Parents, holy children, holy fk... these are all delusions of men and not of Jesus Christ. undecided

Its so sad anyways that life was lost. I sympathize for the loss. If he was a witness, they are reminded of filling their dpa card stating clearly of the solemn decision to take fraction or no blood. So my question is before the operation commences was he with his own card. Or was the card with his wife.

What ever decision the wife takes, Galatians 6:5 comes into place. God will give her the wisdom to tackle whatever comes next.

And if we are not to forget in a hurry mark 10: 7&9 inlaws and whoever should kindly be in support of the wife decision and not to tear apart. Let ask this question who is most or greatly affected by the loss, the wife or inlaws.

Marital and marriage problem will be few, if members of Jehovah witnesses stick to the command as found in 1 Corinthians 7:39. A witness should only marry persons of the same believe who parents are witnesses even generation before are. Issues like this wouldn't come up

She is not in some cult as you say, she is simply being faithfully in what she has come to believe. Faithfulness is what makes her affirmative with her decision, she won't be flogged, if she decides to do other wise. But she can be lovingly discipline by appointed elders in the congregation, but she alone will stand to defend herself and the course her took in her life which God has granted to her.

Romans 8:38.

For the rest of us, let us not 1 peter4:15, and start mixing them up or spreading lies about her decision, about Jehovah witnesses as an organisation and painting up wicked schemes. All of these are very unhealthy.

Again a life is lost that is the most important fact, but resurrection day that life lost will be restored. So all hope is not yet lost. Thanks to Jesus Christ our saviour.

The doctors had no fault oooo.....it was after the surgery they found out he is a JW infact they said if they knew earlier they won't have done the surgery...The top consultant that did the surgery was really angry.

I stand to disagree. I really hope this story is true, because I see discrepancies in this story.

First, before you get a surgery done at LUTH, medical students clerk the patient. The very first rule of clerking is NASAROM. Name, Age, Sex, address, religion, occupation, marital status

After the medical students take the history, the junior resident takes a history using NASAROM as a format. After which, the senior registra takes a history.

This means that the Religion of a patient can never be missed .. especially a patient undergoing surgery. Once you're scheduled for surgery, the anesthetic will also clerk using similar format

It's note worthy that the anesthetics can estimate whether or not a patient will require transfusion and before the surgery, the anesthetic, the senior registra and the consultant talks to the patient especially during the ward round about the need for a possible transfusion...

This story is not adding up.. something is gravely wrong with this story: the decision to transfuse would have been discussed with the patient himself for any major operation that will require loss of blood no matter how minimum... if this happened in a private hospital, I'll understand; but not in LUTH

Yes, a wife can take any decision for her sick husband if the latter is incapacitated, and vice versa. Unless he strictly instructed against that.

Unfortunately, this particular decision was a dumb religious one. I don't care whether someone is religious or not, but when a religion causes death, it still confirms the menace of religion.

Do you believe every righteous person is going to heaven?

The main here is what Jesus Christ said in John 3 vs 1 - 21, which is except a man be born again, he can't enter into the Kingdom of God. undecided

Accepting Jesus Christ means a lot more than simply mentally acknowledging the man himself, it has to do with trusting and obeying everyone of the commandments of Jesus Christ, the one who is God's New Covenant and Law in the Kingdom of God - John 14 vs 15 - 25 & John 15 vs 14 .. undecided

As for those who will go to Heaven, read Matthew 25 vs 31 - 46 - only those who go on to do works of righteousness will enter into God's Heaven. undecided
