Come to think of it, in 2015 Corolla was sold at 900k. In 2017 it was sold at 1.6-1.8m. currently it is sold at 2.4m. with the new policy on importation, it will go to 4m by next 3months. Same with other vehicles. God will help us in this country. 2 Likes |

chigo4u: By now people should know holding USD is an investment. If you can put the USD into secured investment that brings returns, it is even better. Nigeria is struggling to get Forex. Tony Elumelu recent post on Twitter shows that intense bunkering makes it impossible for Nigeria to profit from the current price of crude because lots of the crude produced is stolen. The high price of crude also mean more subsidy needs to be paid. That's what has driven the cost of diesel and petrol up. If the cost of crude remains above $100 throughout the year, by the end of the year, dollar could easily exchange 650 People should be holding at least 50% USD and 50% naira now 10 Likes 1 Share |

A fresh eurobond offering at 8.3%. I wonder how this rate compares to borrowing by other nations.... All said, if the historical 10% pa devaluation of the naira against the dollar continues, this should present a vetter opportunity than local FGN bonds.... There's usually a way for local investors to participate

jedisco:This bond was over subscribed by about 400%. $4 billion was on the order book. Nigeria needs to take advantage of the cheap international funds. Every reduction by 1% saves us tens of millions of USD. BTW, local investors did $60M out of the total subscription in the last Eurobond. |

Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by jedisco(m): 9:31pm On Mar 21, 2022 |
Olaide1295: Interesting... is there a news link that reported the oversubscription? DMO officials would typically attribute such oversubscription to 'foreign investor confidence' which is something I disagree with... Nigeria is not a mushroom nation on the brink of demise- it's one of over 200mil. Real confidence is when such bonds are priced at say 1% and still oversubscribed. $60M is fair... could be better though. I wonder if pension funds e.t.c are restricted 1 Like |

Rizin: Sadly, this is one of the examples that vividly quantifies the effect of inflation/devaluation. It was cheaper for an average graduate to buy a 10 year old corolla in 2014 than it is for a graduate today to buy same corrola which is now 18yr old. Like they say, inflation steals from all... reducing inflation and stabilising the exchange is a good bedrock to enable citizens build wealth. Inflation aside, some investment opportunities still keep up and outpace it. Moreso ones where the producer can easily transfer added costs to the consumer without loosing them. It'd have been better for all if things were more stable but it's not all gloom 6 Likes |

yinkaoke: The policy will likely increase the cost of importation by 300%. They want to make vin payment online. What this means is that once your new vin is type on the system, the new actual price you are to pay will pop up based on your vin. Eg Corolla 2003 (poor men car) that cost around 450k before now to clear will now cost 1.3m |

yinkaoke:. Mmmm. The policy in Nigeria are not always made public. It comes as rumors until they start implementation. This is because if made public, there is be threats for strike etal. In 2012 it was just made rumors before the fuel increase. I believe it will may come for us to understand. Check below. https://tribuneonlineng.com/vin-customs-clearing-agents-truce-meeting-deadlocked/ Below is extracted from it But our argument now remains that a 15 years old vehicle, for instance, has a N2m worth of value, cost, insurance and freight. Under the normal settings internationally, there is depreciation of vehicles on a yearly basis. What it's means is that minimum clearance fee will be in that range. |
