Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport Sends 7000 Staff On Leave Amid Sanctions. by Igbofam: 11:00pm On Mar 21, 2022
The largest Airport in Russia, Sheremetyevo Airport near Moscow has sent 40% of its staff – around 7,000 people – on furlough. The decision was announced by the general director of the airport Mikhail Vasilenko.

Air traffic at Russia’s biggest airport has fallen sharply since the end of February after the Russian invasion into Ukraine and the subsequent imposed sanctions by the European Union and the United States.

Russian airlines can only operate domestically and to a few countries that didn’t impose sanctions on the country. Most airlines are not operating to/over Russia.

The airport also announced the suspension of all future investments and the closure of the third terminal in addition to the already closed terminals E and F.

Staff working at Moscow’s Domodedovo airport are transferred onto a part-time regime as the airport suffers less from the passenger drought
.

In a document, Vasilenko wrote that: “the decision was announced for reasons “out of the control of the employer and employees” and in connection with a “critical decrease in passenger traffic” against the backdrop of sanctions against the Russian Federation and the closure of the airspace of a number of countries.”

Employees on furlough will still get 2/3 of their salary and can retain their job. They still have social protection and other support, a union member said.

Cant dispute the fact that the sanctions are hitting Russia hard.
.
Staff will still be paid 2/3 and still have benefits. I hope we get to this stage as a nation one day where we respect one another no matter the situation.

Don’t be quick to judge the impact of the sanctions on Russia and it does not matter what Putin achieves in Ukraine.

If the sanctions stay in place, only count the scores after about 6months.

Russia will never be same again.

Most of this Putin Terriost supporters are fools . Some says Sanctions wil not affect Russia and when many companies are leaving Russia, they it's it won't affect them.

Currently, more than 50 thousands Russians have lost thier jobs, now let assume that those people working are feeding just 2 people.. meaning that over 150k people have lost thier jobs. More jobless people, more crimes and atrocities

France freeze Russia bank that worth billions of Dollars.

Let see how they will survive this till next 5years.

The way some people think is quite amazing and honestly we Nigerians just look at the surface without looking deeply into issues.

Cutting 40% of the on-roll staff with 2/3 pay is necessary due to the reduced flights in and out of the country. Should all staff be on payroll when the income level to the Airport isn't same again?

Even the European countries who imposed the sanctions are also feeling the cost. Their Truckers are on strike, farmers are on strike, jobs are being cut in manufacturing leading to protests etc.

The US own hasn't come yet, just wait for it. The sanctions blow back will be felt worldwide.

The point here is that even with the Sanctions, Russia will not change its independent foreign policy and will see out the Ukrainian operation to its logical conclusion. Furthermore, they will adapt to it and work out a means to stabilize the situation.

The security of a country comes first.
