oilykid: It's all about politics. The only way APC will retain power is to hand it to South South candidate. This would make them win votes from SS/SE and even SW (they wouldn't have any practical option). The only moral place to cede the ticket is SE but this is politics, the party is not strong there. SW has no moral right to ask for presidency now but they have positioned themselves well for the ticket. The truth is that no single region can win presidency. Voting blocks in Nigeria remains North/SE-SS/SW. Any of the two combined would defeat the third. The SW media wing is actually pushing Igbos to demand for presidency from PDP and Igbos shouldn't fall for this. Reason is this, apart from the bad blood caused by IPOB, APC is the incumbent party. Why would APC Kaduna leave APC candidate to vote for PDP SE candidate. A SW presidency means a longer wait for SE (16years).
The political move SE can make now is to join forces with Northern PDP and win 2023. Build bridges and position themselves for 2031. Be ready to get jabs on nairaland from SW that Igbos are only good for vice presidency or are Fulani slaves. Don't be moved by these. That's the only solution and Yorubas played it in 2015. A Yoruba candidate wouldn't have stood a chance against any SS/SE candidate of PDP in 2015 as the incumbent party would have deployed their machinery to crush them. They wouldn't also stand a chance if PDP is incumbent party in 2031 with an Igbo presidential candidate.
This is the truth an Igbo with his emotional part wouldn't want to hear or a cunny Yoruba wouldn't want people to know. There is no South South candidate for APC to give anything that will make them win. And the way Nigeria is going, we will be lucky if this country sees 2031 as a sovereign nation and not as an extension of China. Nigeria has economically gone to the dogs, and you lot are still bothering yourselves with silly regional politics. The country is on autopilot and instead of sorting through for the most capable person to pull us out of this rubbish, you are talking about tribal and regional politics. Tambuwal spoke heresy. Why would Nigerians forget zoning of the presidency which has been in use since 1999? Nigeria's lopsided political structure created by the north through its soldiers necessitated zoning.
Without zoning, the north shall retain the presidency as long as it wants. 1 Like |

FreeStuffsNG: In 2015, the APC knew the PDP cheated the north by pushing GEJ to contest again instead of returning power to the north
Sincerely, that is not the case this time around.
HE Tambuwal is attempting to revise history and talking tongue in cheek except he did not deliberately forget to add that the north feels that the then President of Southern extraction was using the uncompleted 8 years of the north following the death of late HE Yardua.
On the mandate of Asiwaju Tinubu I stand. Here's free book on business ideas & money sources directory for you,it's 100% free! https://www.nairaland.com/6666800/looking-business-ideas-money-fund. Cheers.
Same thing here bro. Truth is that Igbos deserve it or even SS to complete their term. Projecting Tinubu to take over from Buhari is what will lead us to 16 years Northern rule. I'm glad PDP understands this. APC has no moral right to hand over ticket to North. It will go to South and looks like Tinubu will have it. SE must play SW type of politics in 2015....this will position the zone well for 2027/31 election. It's either SE or we continue the madness. Both parties should zone to SE in all fairness but if you want to be politically smart, then SE will play the spoiler as you did in 2015 1 Like |

Tinubu cannot take the seat, because Tinubu is clueless as regards economy What he knows how to do is make more money for his family to eat and haemorrhage the economy to fuel his supporters club. He is not knowledgeable in economics and I cannot recommend such a person. He is one of those being bandied about on the altar of regional politics. I am not even totally against regional politics, but for the love of God, can these regions not find more capable hands than these clowns they are touting? We are experiencing economic suicide in this country currently, and these parties are just out here sourcing for power. They do not care that the economy is in shambles, they are not sending out their best hands for the good of the country, they are only looking at who is most likely to get them power and it is so disappointing that some of us are stuck in Nigeria with such idiots. This country is on life support, and we are casually discussing politics as if we are not living in a nation where the power situation is woeful, fuel is increasing and people cannot even afford one decent meal. lots of people here don't understand how politics/elections works in the North, hence they misunderstood what Tambuwal said.
1. As it stands now. It's hard, if not impossible for any candidate to win against a northerner in the north...
2. Ask any northerner, whenever it comes to presidential election... the influencers, the elites makes it look like a religious and a tribal thing... SO MAJORITY OF US WILL SEE IT AS A MUSLIM VS A CHRISTIAN OR THE HAUSAS/FULANIS VS THE IGBOS OR YORUBAS... which brings it back to point 1.
3. If it comes down to a northerner vs a northerner, it's a thing of preference. the candidate with a better marketing/campaign, the one that "sympathetises" with the masses more, will win.
SO TO MY UNDERSTANDING, WHAT TAMBUWAL IS TRYING TO COMMUNICATE IS... NOW THAT THE MAJORITY OF THE NORTH IS MAD AT & DON'T TRUST BUHARI & APC, IS THE CHANCE FOR PDP TO GET BACK THE POWER BY FIELDING A NORTHERN CANDIDATE. BECAUSE, WELL, POINT 2 ABOVE. ***shrug
NOTE: I AM NO POLITICS EXPERT. I AM JUST SPEAKING FROM MY PERSPECTIVE AS A NORTHERNER WHO LIVES HERE FOR 20YRS AND WITNESSED 2 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS. |

GboyegaD: One question though, is Katsina not in the North? That said, is PDP stating they can't find a reputable candidate from the South that can win the election?
Those supporting Tambuwal are indirectly supporting the North and endorsing them again as superior which was what Ojukwu fought against. for now anything that can take us away from apc is welcome.
