Joezinho: Eguavoen brought a surprised old tactic to afcon to defeat Egypt, repeated it again against Sudan and Guinea Bissau. Unfortunately, technical coaches discovered he did not have more than one tactic in his chest. Tunisia punished him, Ghana that was below par at afcon had also successfully caged his tactic. Tuesday match would be a disaster because eguavoen has nothing new to bring to the table. 1st 41 minutes of the match against Ghana, the possession of Ghana was 70% against 30% of Nigeria. The last time I saw that against Nigeria was when we played Denmark at the world cup. If we qualify for Qatar by mistake, this team will not get a point in the group stages because eguavoen is predictable 5 Likes |

femicyrus: I knew we were never gonna win that match even days before we played it. Eguavoen is either naive or just dumb but any amateur coach would tell him that you can only start three of out of Simon, Osimhen, Iheanacho and Chukwueze in the modern game. He keeps on playing outdated 442 knowing fully well we don't have the right personnel for it. This isn't 1994 . In 94, we had proper wingers like Amuneke and finidi .. chukwueze and Simon are not wingers. They are wide forwards and they need to be closer to goal rather than on the touchlines.. |

JohnBullMySon: I expect our team to be better in Abuja...but listening to Otto Addo's post match press conference I can almost tell they will adopt a low block putting many men behind the ball just hoping for a fluke goal since a scoring draw will be just fine for them. We were unable to string 5 to 6 passes in our buildup play without losing possession.. .it will be interesting to see how we get the breakthrough. If we were facing any of these Mahgreb teams...it would have been a lot more difficult. |

Dannyxy: The point is in 3-4-3 the wide midfielders basically function as wingbacks so the two central midfielders have to do the job themselves |

chuks404: Iwobi doesn't do all that unnecessary dribbling on the pitch... And he doesn't hug the touchline much... If he was available I would have preferred him to start on that right wing.. He and Aina have a good chemistry there... Chukwueze style doesn't allow Aina overlap much... 1 Like |

Subzero47:assuming osimhen is the 9, iheanacho and Dennis will always drop in field and choke up the midfield, putting pressure on the defensive midfield box, the d.m will most likely throw a long huff aimless pass or pass back to the goalie, and the goalie huff a pass too, and if we can win balls in that d.m box of Ghana, we will thrash them, it's just about tactics and tactical awareness. 2 Likes |

semid4lyfe: Why are u running the coach down unnecessarily? None of the players had a good game apart from maybe Ekong and definitely Uzoho. How can u blame him for the nonsense they played individually? Even most the subs outside of Frank and Etebo didn't cover themselves in Glory. Ademola was falling left and right, Dennis could barely hold on to the ball and Bassey was suspect in some moments. I believe they will all improve but to tear AE down after he got a result even though his team was clearly not at their best is just ridiculous. Nigeria played this same way and lost to Central African Republic. |

caprikon:The problem is not that we can't string passes. We didn't try to. Our attackers held the ball for too long and were loose. |

femicyrus: And why did you avoid mentioning the possession at full time? 48 to 52. Meaning we did get back in the second half. And stop saying Eguavoen has an old tactic. Their defenders didn't really mark us down. We were just too loose and slow in decision making. It improved close to dying minutes but time wasn't on our side. |

Been following the discussion since yesterday and I had a few laughs , the match for me, shows who the enemies of Nigerian football really are, if they had gone ahead to appoint a foreign coach , we would have avoided some of these things. I don't really know though, probably my pessimistic nature, I have a feeling we will miss the ticket, probably for the best, though that would hurt some players who are deserving . AE just ain't it. |

Nff better throw the gates open and have a full stadium, because Nigeria go dey do one nonsense na. Pack students from gwags, secondary school, zuba kubwa nyanya to full that place, if dem like make dey dull. Intimidating and deafening noise of the extra man would be key. 4 Likes |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Subzero47: 11:48am On Mar 26, 2022 |
Dannyxy: If they drop into midfield how will they sustain pressure upfront and even if they go upfront to join the attack won't it be the same 2 man midfield that will be left vulnerable to the counterattack, see tactics is good but sometimes the simple equation is the best equation, 3 man midfield is better than a 2 man midfield |

COOL10: Keshi got us to Round of 16 in the World Cup though, Rohr could not. Even Amodu took us to third in AFCON, nobody has bronze medal more than us in that AFCON for a reason, so, like someone else said, Rohr did not do anything local coaches have not done before in lesser time. |

Aribo works best in a 3 midfield where 2 defensive or box to box players are behind him and he plays as an attacking midfielder with licence to roam and attack. Iheanacho is best as a supporting striker. Put aribo in a 3 man midfield and iheanacho behind osimhen and then use only one winger and we have a dangerous attack. Eguavon is wasting aribo and iheanacho talent. Rodgers who we criticize so much knows how to get the best out of iheanacho 1 Like |
