How Did You Feel After You Finally Defeated That Stubborn Addiction?

Addictions are really something else. They could be very devastating and depressing.

I remember a story a friend shared with me concerning his addiction to alcohol. It so wrecked his life to the point, his wife would be crying profusely, because she saw the damage it was doing to her husband, yet she seemed so helpless, being unable to do anything to remedy his situation.

But God delivered the man from his addiction so he was no longer addicted to alcohol when he shared his experience with me, however, he said because of what it had done to him, he would never go near anything alcohol but steer well clear so as not to repeat the same experience.

My own stubborn addictions were masturbation and pornography which seemed to go hand in hand, as I couldn't stay away from porn, and if I watched porn, I usually end up masturbating as that seemed to be end result.

My addiction to pornography was as though it had a glueing effect on me. Once I started watching it, to stop was almost impossible. I could watch porn for 24 hours non-stop, it used to keep me awake all night as well. There was a time after watching it for a lengthy and extended period, my eyes became much swollen and turned red as if I had "Apollo". It was also bringing out water.

However I didn't seem to have much issue with the addiction to porn at the time, but my grouse appeared to be with masturbation. Even when I wasn't saved but still just a church-going sinner, I had become fed up with masturbation to the point I was praying seriously for God to deliver me from the habit, because it was getting too much in my opinion and turning out to be a huge burden. I just felt it wasn't worth all the stress, even though it brought some short-lived excitement.

The worst part was that it still continued even after I repented and made the decision to follow Jesus. If I hated masturbation even while yet a sinner that I had to cry out to God for help, how much more after I got saved?

I can recount how many times I literally cried unto God to deliver me from that bad habit. I just believed I couldn't afford to be struggling with such a vice while preaching His Gospel to men cause I felt I needed to be a good example and practice what I preached. Moreover the last thing I wanted was to give the devil was some access into my life or a loophole to exploit and do damage, which was what the addiction seemed to be giving him, as i found myself being attacked and occasionally having sex in dreams which wasn't supposed to happen, but there nothing I could do to prevent it.

But that was then, because God has long given me victory over that stubborn addiction, that up til today, It still amazes me the wonderful job that God has done for me, because I know the kind of serious battle it was before I got set free.

The difference between where I was then and now is very glaring, because then, all it took to trigger the urge and get me back to square one after managing to abstain for a while, was just a sight of a nude woman's picture, a times not even up to that, and the devil seems to be using that against me.

But now It no longer works as it doesn't matter the amount of nude women pictures the devil brought across my way, like he was doing on my Facebook page at some point, bringing them in the guise of people I may know, it doesn't move me at all. He seemed to give up at some point after he noticed it wasn't working as it used to, as it completely stopped after a while.

It feels really great to finally have the upper hand I dearly craved over the addiction that held me bound for such a long time. For this I remain so grateful to God.

God bless.

The fresh life we enjoy when we break free from our addictions is worth the struggle to be free

You lie
You are addicted to something
Addiction doesn't mean u must do it everyday.
Even if it's once a month you do it, you are still addicted.
Might be porn, masturbation, fornication, internet, drug or sex

Masturbation is a good and bad addiction, likewise sex, betting, womanizing and alcohol, so something must kill a man.

Do anything that is good for you, but don't kill yourself or another person because of it simple.

OP, i have been seriously been affected by this pornography and masturbation for a long time, and am a tongue talking believer ooo, but seriously every time i try to fight the weakness profusely, i feel entrenched and overwhelmed when i fail, but when i decide to live with it and continue my Christian life and then hope to outgrow it based on my commitment to GODS word, just as Apostle paul said he had a thorn in the flesh which still was with him, i feel more victorious in my Christian life and even over the masturbation and pornography sef, as i will spend longer days without even watching it, but the moment i start fasting or trying to use my self to fight it, BAM i feel defeated already at the beginning of my fight.

am open to hear your views, but to me , i think we approach this things the wrong way, that's why we keep failing every time, because we try to use our *SELF To fight weakness instead of to depend on GOD, but we think that if we spend 7 days doing fasting , it will disappear, i have tried that thing times without number and it didnt work out for me, i thinking going deeeper with GOD and growing will outpace all this weakness.

My sister in-law died on January after battling for unknown sickness that no medical both govt and private can fathom, I drank to stupor.

I took 2medium bottles of LORD dry him, 2medium bottles of Mackdowe whiskeyl and 7 bottles of HERO LARGER BEER.

I nearly vomited blood but poo on myself

My wife was little disappointed but I had to swore never to taste alcohol again to make up for my shameful mistakes.

God has been my strength since January.

I now took soft drinks.

If I see people taking anything whiskey it will look as a poison to me.

I pray for this to last forever.

Alcohol can make u so useless oo.

It can make u to be careless in savings, it can make u to always do things of regret like womanizing...
I HAVE BEEN LIBERATED

I didn’t have an addiction but I was a social drinker every time I went out for a year straight always drinking then my phone was stolen and it was like a light switch went off in my head the only way they were able to was I was drinking and I was exposing myself too much to people who envied me.

So I just stopped that day and that was it… if I’m really with good company I’ll take a sip but so far I haven’t and my skin has thanked me for it.

Be responsible and don’t let it dull you na 6 dem carry na 11 we Dey we move and we close the case

It's the way you people condemn mastúrbation and leave out fornication, adultery and the likes.

Ironically, the Bible never even mentioned mastúrbation. Or didn't men and women wanked during the Bible days?

Make of this whatever you will. I'm not here to teach morals, just dissecting flawed belief systems.

You really don't defeat anything. You take it one day at a time. I "defeated" wanking and porn for two years and a vulnerable period got me back. I stayed away for a long while and then boom. In all of it I am reminded that it is not by my power or might but by God. We live by God's grace as we continually strive towards perfection till you meet God. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak and so it's a constant fight and it'd be hypocrisy to say you win all fights. God knows us all and our hearts. For all the dependence on addiction there are many sins we willfully commit everyday. There are sins we overlook. Gossiping and gluttony for one are addictions but we are all fixated on sexual addictions because they're "worst sins." I know wanking and porn are not so good for me, so I continue to fight. This morning I cleared my phone. Project restart cool

Addiction is easy to beat if you just make up your mind ... I used to smoke benson for years but one day I decided to quit ... when I found out you can change a behavior in 21days .. I applied it and voila!!! I endured the nagging and complains my body was giving me ... but then I found IGBO (arizona) ... smoked that shit for years until one day I decided to fight it ... only becasue it was writing my existence into dark places and I didnt want to be that guy... that is always slacking and lost in thier own world of bliss and satisfaction when the world around you is moving at breakneck speed...yeah that guy.

So I quit ... my life has improved without it so I know I am on an upward trajectory.

Just know everything is in the mind

I didn't feel anything because it wasn't difficult for me to stop

I didn't even plan to stop alcohol
I was on my 3rd bottle that day. I just realized how useless it was. Blurring my perception and making me weak. I just decided right there that that was going to be my last. that was 20yrs ago. Though I finished that last bottle. I hate to waste anything in my life
