Interesting to see India say no to its former colonial masters; Mahatma Gandhi would be proud: India Cancels UK Delegation Visit To Discuss Anti-Russian Sanctions

https://www.nairaland.com/7048835/india-cancels-uk-delegation-visit

While I advocate world peace and a quick resolution to the Russia-Ukraine crisis, it's good that Russia continues to oppose the hegemonic influence of the West, especially the United States.

Russia and her allies, including China and India, should strive harder to keep Western influence in the East (the Orient) at bay; a unipolar world is disastrous for African states.

true.

I have learnt so much and have so much clarity from reading diverse arguments and articles on this war and how it might affect Africa.

unipolar influence is already disastrous for Africa and its economy. I also believe now that It is time for some real competition from east to challenge the gargantuan powers of the West. Africa will benefit a lot from both west and east competing for the soul of Africa instead of west taking whatever they want cos of the power they hold.

Competition is healthy.

It's gonna be super hard, even almost impossible for East to be as powerful as the west (cos they have good headstart), but we cannot allow or cheer the west as they try to crush the east and do whatever they want.

West doesn't have good history with being good to those who are not ready to do things their way. And they are ready to crush if you don't do things their supreme way. But knowing there is actual competition will put a clog in that wheel.

No, the West doesn't. The records of their bruteness are clear: ranging from how Britons almost wiped out the native (black) Americans in America, to how Britons did the same to the aboriginal (black) peoples of Australia and New Zealand (the Maoris and the likes).

The West have a worse history in Africa than the East, especially the Arabs.

For Africa, a healthy balance of power between the major actors in the Western and Eastern regions is crucial.

not only that past that can be overlooked or forgiven because of how things were back then. But the current happenings and how the West is using its huge power to it's absolute advantage in the middle East and Africa.

Checks and balances are needed. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. So it's better for Africa to stay independent and reap the benefits on the long run than quickly displaying all its card.

Africa may be the one to tilt power on the long run.

There is sense in this. Competition as you've said is healthy but in the same vein, we should wish that those who want to be powerful enough to challenge the west would be responsible with that power.

In the last 2 decades, America has made a few foreign policy blunders but those blunders were a response to the growth of terrorism globally. There is no non-moslem who didn't support America going to war with Afghanistan or Iraq, after America was attacked at the heart of their country. Every right thinking person realized that if America could be attacked in their country, no one was safe.

We in Nigeria can now attest to those fears that were had then, having suffered the ignominious perils of Islamic terrorism for 10 years, we can understand the apprehension and irascibility the western powers felt when making those decisions which in hindsight, now looks like mistakes.

Do you want to know the truth? The TRUTH is that under America's stewardship as the sole global super power, especially since the fall of the Soviet union, the world has seen the greatest era of peace in humankind and the greatest economic growth ever seen.
100 years ago, there was war in almost every pocket of the globe, the northern Nigerian Emirates under Usman Dan fodio were expanding their empire southwards after successfully expanding eastwards from sokoto. They had began conquering the Oyo empire and some Yoruba kingdoms before colonialism stopped them in their tracks. Asia was a hotbed of wars for expansion reasons, Europe the same thing.

Now violence has been receded to just few pockets of the globe such that active wars now can be counted on your fingers.

America just wants each country to have a stable and fair leadership. Japan in the 90's were also looking like a country ready to challenge the US economic might, but they got old. They were the hotbed of industrial manufacturing, companies like Toyota, Kodak, Panasonic, Nintendo etc were some of the biggest companies in the world and Japan grew to have the 2nd biggest economy in the world, now they're 3rd. Through America's guidance, South Korea shot up to become the world's 5th biggest economy in the world.
Same with India, even China. Go and study how China became rich. After the death of chairman mao, china's leadership decided to open up their economy to the west, American presidents like Richard Nixon and gorge bush SNR were invited to china to see changes that were taking place and American corporation saw a huge population that could manufacture their goods cheaply with their leadership pledging their loyalty to the west and making concessions to them via tariffs and tax free goods etc and most importantly not seeking land expansions and this they have stuck to till date.

America is not really as bad as curated and yes it makes sense for us to have competition but let's hope that whatever competition arises is as responsible or better than America. Not one that punishes its own citizens for criticizing the government.

Taa, all western governments have to do is shut down crypto exchanges like binance, Coinbase, etc and watch the value of crypto fall drastically.
It's like you people like to underestimate the power of western governments.
When you combine the economies of USA, Britain, Germany, Japan, France, south Korea, India, Brazil etc, these are all world democracies that align with US and combined make up 60% of the entire global economy.

For context, America's GDP is 19 TRILLION DOLLARS, the entire African continent has a GDP of 1.2 trillion dollars. A mere fraction of America's economy
.
Stop underestimating the west.

Good God.

Remember how we were all about managing Silva's time for obvious reasons last season? Interestingly, he's already made more appearances this season (35) that he made the whole of last season (34), and there's still quite a number of games left in this campaign.

Good points but not entirely correct. Most agreed with Afghanistan but not Iraq.

Those who want alternative should suggest better ones. Russia and China is not it for now, they can't even treat their own people right.

When you see Americans like Raumdeuter and Roland17 beating their chest in support of their adopted country and saying "we go show them", just know the country is treating them well. Same goes for millions of Nigerian-Americans or British. I want to see a Nigerian Chinese or Nigerian Russian beating their chest saying "We" in the first place, talkless of "We go show them".

I was wondering if we could get first hand report of things happening in Russia from FBS. I mean if he can confirm some of these reported cases of human right abuses by the state against the citizens and also how these sanctions is affecting the Russian economy since he stays there and can give an unbiased view that is void of Western media or Russian media propaganda.

But the invasion still happened because they was massive support, both domestic and international.
The west genuinely feared that if there were nuclear weapons in Iraq, these could fall into the hands of terrorists who wouldn't blink twice about using them.
Again, with the benefit of hindsight we now know that there intelligence and military actions were wrong but the apprehension then was the prevailing mentality.

Nah, there was massive ground opposition to Iraq war, and massive marches, but the MPs and Senators voted it through knowing that Bush and Blair were lying about WMDs. No other country in UN supported it but UK, US, Australia and Poland. UK always goes with US, and Australia and Poland always goes with UK as they guarantee Poland's security. EU and the rest countries voted it down.

The Bushes always planned to go back to Iraq after Saddam sent an assassination squad to kill Bush Senior when he was visiting Kuwait after his Presidency was over. It's a personal family beef, nothing like WMDs.

Don't be surprised, they will soon ask why you didn't blame Luiz for not getting this tackle. There's always someone else to shoulder the burden when an escort ushers someone to his backline. Defenders and Goalkeepers start copping blames

Which do you prefer between man on man marking or zonal marking?

Click this reddit link below, you will see the Russian police arrest a citizen for protesting with a BLANK PIECE OF PAPER. I mean, literally nothing was written on the piece of paper but they still arrested the man and people like this risk a 3 year jail term.

Indeed it's really bad, we need to sit up and get our leadership right.

It's not okay to just keep blaming the west and blaming the west. Our leadership has to get it right. We the citizens have to get it right with our leadership. It's us that are responsible for our woes right now, not the west.

Side note; I noticed my figures were a little bit outdated.
America has a GDP of 23 trillion dollars while the entire African continent has a GDP of 2.3 trillion dollars.

Sometimes, silence really is golden. If you no get better thing to talk, you keep quiet.

Do you think it will be easy for everyone to come here and tell you his life story?? Someone like dopejemi has been a highly active member on this forum for the past 10 years, and last we heard from him was like Early last year when someone said he was shot {can't recall vividly}, so for him to seek help from this little e-community would tell you it's a last resort.
I know that people like dayo and Ibime have been helping people here on numerous occasions so you can't say it's for clout chasing when they have a solid history of doing this.

You made a good point but it's really not your place to tell people here unsolicited how to go about seeking solution to their problem.
If you're not interested in helping, it's not hard for you to just ignore, not dissuading people that might be inclined to help someone who really is one of us.

SILENCE IS GOLDEN.

I'm talking about Open play. So if you believe in zonal marking then David luiz has to equally share the blame with Jorginho in that video against Tottenham. Yes, jorginho didn't get the ball from the onset and escorted son all the way but there was an option for David luiz to have anticipated son's movement and gotten the ball easily. Any decent CB would use Son to shine there .

If you poke a defence 10 times, 3 will get through

I rather the DM stop 9 of those at source so you won't blame the defenders for the 3 that get through especially something as easy as that.

Escort is never solely to blame, there will always be a goalkeeper or defender behind him to blame when he doesn't do his job

Jorginho was favourite for sliding that ball out on the touchline which any DM will do but he is too slow. Luiz chances are slimmer and more risky to make a tackle in the box in that much space that Son had to go either way. That goal is 90% Jorginhos fault, simple.

And finally zonal marking is still man to man on a full pitch. If James has a man in his zone at fullback, he is expected to deal with him and not have another player leave his zone to come and firefight, leaving another zone exposed for overload.

Also everyone knows Son is a right footer, so Luiz predicted son going right, but son is equally good using left.
The blame is all Jorginho
