Alcoholism, A Disease Or A Sin? by tctrills: 5:35pm On Mar 27, 2022 |
Many Christians are against drinking, others say drink but don't get drunk. But then, there are does that can't control their drinking. Is it a sin to be an alcoholic or is it a medical problem? Should we be preaching to alcoholics or getting them medical or mental help? |
Re: Alcoholism, A Disease Or A Sin? by immortalcrown(m): 5:36pm On Mar 27, 2022 |
tctrills:Alcohol is necessary for the body but too much of alcohol is sinful and deadly. |
Re: Alcoholism, A Disease Or A Sin? by Ammishaddai: 5:38pm On Mar 27, 2022 |
Just because the bible describes something doesn't mean it prescribes it. Alcohol intoxicates and it doesn't edify Christ in the life of a believer. A true Christian who understands this will never drink irrespective of whatever excuses people may give for acts of wickedness And as for preaching to alcoholics to repent, it's not your place to convince them rather , it is the Holy Ghost who does that which is why preaching a message of salvation is the first step to genuine conversion |

immortalcrown:First, you did not answer the question, and secondly, the consumption of alcohol is not necessary for the body. Let me make the second point easy for you. Your body through your liver produces all the alcohol it needs. Every bottle of beer you drink is adding to the liver's load. Please address my question if you have an answer. |

Ammishaddai:To understand you, are you saying alcoholism is a sin and not a sickness? |
Re: Alcoholism, A Disease Or A Sin? by immortalcrown(m): 5:45pm On Mar 27, 2022 |
tctrills:Maybe you do not understand English. You probably do not understand the function of "but" in my comment. Let me rephrase my response and give further explanation. Alcohol is necessary for the body. Alcohol is not a sin. Too much intake of alcohol is a sin. Too much intake of alcohol is also harmful to the body. The same way food is necessary and godly for the body while too much intake of food is deadly and sinful. Some people have a deficiency of certain things in their bodies. Not everyone's liver is very active. Even if the liver is very active, taking a supplement once in a while is not bad. Also, beer is not the only source of alcohol. |

immortalcrown: I would not act like you by being rude. but first, my question was, is alcoholism a sin? If you don't know what Alcoholism is, let me help you. Alcoholism is the inability to control drinking due to both a physical and emotional dependence on alcohol. Again I agree that alcohol is necessary for the body alcohol consumption is not necessary. The body produces its own alcohol adding more to the liver is toxic. if the body needs you to consume alcohol, how come children under 21 are not allowed to take alcohol in most counties and even Muslim countries ban alcohol, how come their citizens are not falling sick for lack of alcohol? |
Re: Alcoholism, A Disease Or A Sin? by immortalcrown(m): 5:59pm On Mar 27, 2022 |
tctrills:You are right. I was rude because I did not pay attention to your usage of the word 'Alcoholism'. I apologize for saying maybe you do not understand English. But you were wrong for saying I did not answer your question. I said too much intake of alcohol is sinful and harmful. |

Re: Alcoholism, A Disease Or A Sin? by immortalcrown(m): 6:01pm On Mar 27, 2022 |
tctrills:Why this question? Is too much intake of alcohol different from alcoholism? |
Re: Alcoholism, A Disease Or A Sin? by tctrills: 6:02pm On Mar 27, 2022 |
immortalcrown:Yes there is a big difference. I may not be an alcoholic but I can occasionally have too many drinks. |
Re: Alcoholism, A Disease Or A Sin? by immortalcrown(m): 6:06pm On Mar 27, 2022 |
tctrills:You are confusing yourself. Taking two bottles every day and taking 12 bottles once in 6 days is the same. |
Re: Alcoholism, A Disease Or A Sin? by tctrills: 6:11pm On Mar 27, 2022 |
immortalcrown:No, it's not. If you doubt, ask a professional. With 12 bottles in your body at once, you are overworking your liver. The guy who takes 12 bottles at a go would likely destroy his liver and kidney first. |
Re: Alcoholism, A Disease Or A Sin? by tctrills: 6:15pm On Mar 27, 2022 |
immortalcrown:Drinking 12 bottles at a time can easily cause alcohol poisoning. Like i said if you doubt ask a pro. |

Ammishaddai:a lot. Alcohol is base in nature while our stomach is acidic in nature. As a science student you should know the rest nah. |

silibaba:Thats pretty lame . I dont drink yet nothing happened ...my pastor doesn't do the same yet he's a medical practitioner in his late 90s. Or are you looking for excuses to justify what's wrong? |

Re: Alcoholism, A Disease Or A Sin? by tctrills: 11:18pm On Mar 27, 2022 |
silibaba:That's actually not scientifically correct. You don't need to be a drunk for alcohol to affect your kidney or liver. None of us can tell what's too little or too much for our livers or kidney. In fact, no doctor or scientist has ever stated the amount of alcohol that is too little or too much. Its impossible to tell and it's different for everyone. |

Re: Alcoholism, A Disease Or A Sin? by cornelboy(f): 11:25pm On Mar 27, 2022 |
tctrills: Alcoholism is clearly a sin so as binge drinking. The Bible support moderate intake of alcohol. |
Re: Alcoholism, A Disease Or A Sin? by tctrills: 11:28pm On Mar 27, 2022 |
cornelboy:How come it's a sin that is treated by medical experts, mental experts, and therapy? We learn that we can only overcome sin through Christ. |

Re: Alcoholism, A Disease Or A Sin? by cornelboy(f): 11:36pm On Mar 27, 2022 |
tctrills: If you can't control your drinking, it's better to stop drinking all together. Jesus won't come down to overcome your sins for you. What a true Christian should do is seek the help and advice of other Christian brothers if he's unable to stop. The Bible is a guide for us. There's no drug to treat alcoholism. It's not a disease, it's a bad habit! It's a sin! |
Re: Alcoholism, A Disease Or A Sin? by tctrills: 11:43pm On Mar 27, 2022 |
cornelboy:You just deflated your own words. You claim if you cannot control your drinking, you better stop. How can you stop what you cannot control? Actually, Alcoholism is treated by professionals. Millions are treated yearly. It is a medical condition with known medical solutions. Sin does not have medical solutions. You cant treat lies or wickedness in a hospital. |

cornelboy:I know this is a religious thread but could you do a little study of the science of addiction? After your study let's see if you have a change of heart |
Re: Alcoholism, A Disease Or A Sin? by cornelboy(f): 12:02am On Mar 28, 2022 |
tctrills: It's straightforward. If you chose to drink but you can't control your drinking, you should stop before you become dependent and addicted to alcohol. Drunkenness is a sin. If you were not an alcoholic, but you maybe one day drank too much and became drunk, it's a sin. Control your drinking and if you couldn't, stop drinking before it becomes addiction. If alcoholics drink and don't drink to stupor, then it's not a sin but I don't think that's possible because every alcoholic I know get drunk. Is there some kind of surgery and drugs to treat and cure alcoholism? A lot of alcoholics among JWs have been helped to quit alcohol consumption by their brothers and sisters. All thanks to Jehovah! |
