1) Until and unless we legislate a law to allow responsible gun ownership then we'll always be at the mercy of bad actors. 2) Guns and ammo are not cheap. 3) The bad guys already have guns, they don't care about laws, it's law abiders that worry about pesky laws. Pictured are not military or police but regular American citizens protesting the government. If you don't want Nigerians to bear arms but you are processing papa papers to the America or you live there then you're delirious. The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

MadeINchenzen2:See, forget about the costly guns.. We will go for cheaper guns. Secondly, there should be gun laws that properly guide the citizens on the use of guns, and these laws should be strictly adhered to. There should be situations for someone to pull out a gun. If someone pulls out a gun when the situation didn't call for it, it is a very big offence, even if he didn't shoot the gun. He can be sued and found guilty for pulling out a gun when there was no cause for such. (Our Nigerian Uniformed men are doing anyhow they like with their guns, just because there are no proper gun laws in Nigeria) Again, the “shoot to injure” is the ideal practice, and not “shoot to kill”. So, even when we have guns, you don't shoot someone who is not having a gun without letting the person know that you have a gun on you; and even at that, you shoot to injure (not to kill), even if the person is having a gun on him. (Killing should be the very last option, and a person that kills someone is definitely going to court to prove himself) Before having a gun, you must have a license which shows that you know how to aim and shoot properly, if not, then your having a gun without the shooting license, or even shooting the gun that belongs to someone but you don't have the shooting license is a very big offence |

truthCoder: That's one pro. Do you know how many cons there are? Trust me, owning a gun for the average Nigerian is a very bad idea. A better idea would be to step up security and make lawmakers do their job for once and pass bills that protects the right of the citizens. Practicing true democracy would be a start and actually having seperation of power from the 3 arms becos we all know right now the 3 arms are just one and the powers of the executive are absolute. But we are a long way from having the mental capacity to bear arms amongst ourselves. We'll throw the country into an anarchist state. |

onuman: Keep talking from the safety of your home. Just keep up with the disinformation, paid for by politicians. If you are against legal gun acquisition by citizens and humans created by God, how about the illegal guns in the hands of armed robbers, Fulani murderers , kidnappers and drug lords? How do you collect back such? Or don't you know that the only person that can stop an evil man with a gun, is a good man with a better gun and training? Not prayer, not legislation, not politicians. |

MadeINchenzen2: So you would rather perpetually be at the mercy of someone who has a gun? If we all had guns, our population will be reduced to sensible levels. Right now there are a lot of idiots in this country. Revenge killings will become the norm because if fulani herdsmen go to a non-fulani community to misbehave then the non-fulani community will also go to the fulani community to also misbehave...at the end of the day all those that like to misbehave would have slaughtered themselves and given some of us peace. Three, police and army will loose their demi-god status. They will realize that there are civilians that are natural snipers, they just didn't realize their calling because the Nigerian military has been dumbed down and "nonsensified". Guerilla warfare will make the army and police calm down and ask GOD for mercy. Four, to ensure communal peace, communities filled with gun owners will define for themselves their own rules of engagement and the government will immediately lose their power. Every community be a literal battalion and unlike the military that "zombiciously" fight for the selfish interests of others, communities will fight for the betterment of their communities. This will take Nigeria back to how we used to live long before our founding bastards got us into slavery we call independence. Five. Biafra will be actualized at last. Six. Nigeria will lapse into confederacies. Seven. Corruption will end... Legalizing guns for all Nigerians will bring the reconfiguration Nigeria needs! That AR-15 no bad at all. You misbehave you receive a generous donation of bullets. |

AmazonTopaz: Don't mind them. When they don't see bandits, it will be people from other tribes, people they have a grouse with, people who they just hate. And when they shoot or harm another person unprovoked, there will be no medical help for that person and no justice. Right now they are still high on the fumes of protecting themselves, because they have never owned deadly force en masse. But when it comes, they will dread it. People like redgigipiller will be on the loose. Nigeria isn't ready for it. 2 Likes 1 Share |

MadeINchenzen2: You only considered one side of the possible effects. When you and I have guns, we would respect each other more knowing that it's a balanced or level playing ground. Licenced guns, first of all, are traceable and not given just anyhow, unlike what you mentioned in your post, it's not going to be what just any poor man or average Nigerian can have access to cos the prerequisites would favour the upper and middle class the most. Another thing is that gun issuance would follow a strict licensing process. If you don't pay taxes, have a stable job and pass psychological evaluation, you would not be given. Also people with criminal records may be exempted... There is a way it could work if it follows legal and due process. For me, I think it would bring more sanity and respect instead of all you listed. Police and Military officers would stop bullying civilians knowing some of them possess the same firearm as them so no basis for riding anyone. Bandits would be afraid of attacking when they know the average home possesses a firearm. Robberies would reduce greatly for fear of being counter attacked, so many positive changes would come about if you look at it the right way. |

pafo: Why will you condemn a whole country and say we dont have the mental capacity to own guns? I will not accept such a prejudiced approach to the collective intelligence of the biggest black nation in the world. Are you implying that the simple genetic fact that we are born black and Nigerians automatically has reduced our mental capability to handle a gun? This is an insult and this is one of the reasons why we keep getting ridiculed world wide. For you to assume we would immediately go on a rampage shooting like baboons simply because we are Nigerians is so low. America from where we photocopied our constitution (and from which we have not died) also has gun control laws, albeit not perfect, but still functional. We can re-write our laws, set up mental evaluation units and do everything necessary just to ensure the safety of our citizens are assured. Guns are good deterrents and it will radically change our security structure. |

It will only be bloody within the first six months, but at times goes the situation will be calm. That time everyone go respect himself. Bandits can't attack at will again knowing everyone is armed., Robbery will reduce drastically, Security agencies will stop misbehaving to civilians, our thieves in power will stop making empty promises, the benefits are endless. There will be total sanity in the long run. But the beginning go dey very bloody o but e go stabilize in few months |

I understand the Op, i see his point. However, A Benue man who's now a refugee in his own Land won't understand. A Soutern Kaduna indigene would probably set me ablaze if i try to explain that giving guns to every tom dick and harry is a bad idea for the nation as a whole. And so on and so forth. My point is we say these things because we and our family members have not experienced such mindless violence. To these people Nigeria have failed. My own solution, Let Buhari send an emergency bill for State and Local Police let it be passed and signed ASAP |

Tho post is banal, vacuous, and is too easy an equation. It's lack of imagination to think that there is only one outcome if citizens are allowed to bear arms. 175 countries in the world allow their citizens to bear arms. But only the US ,Mexico and Guetamala give their citizens the constitutional rights to bear arms. Is it not because people are defenceless that these idiots are having a field day? Anyone who thinks that peoples defending.themselves will amount to mayhem is lame in thoughts. |

Fear mongering! Same reason we CAN'T localize the police force. If you have no property or assets to DEFEND, you won't qualify to carry a gun. Even though criminals will not register their weapons, registration will be required of everyone. However, Regional, State or Local govt. police FIRST. |

This is a rubbish write up.When we say allow d population hav gun,we dont mean every dick n harry on d street. To own weapons legally means there will be background checks n shits or referees. At the end only house owners who are recognised by district heads n traditional heads will stand for those acquiring those weapons. U are talking like this becos u probably staying in Lagos n u feeling safe,bt my brother u are selfish n wicked.People are dying all over d country becos they cant defend themselves when raided by this bandits n herdsmen.I for instance was born n bred in Lagos bt live in d north right now ...with my whole family there. Its not funny anymore...... |
