One good example is in boxing. The boasting or not is no big decider.

Sam Peter:I'll cut down this tree(to Klitschko)

We know who fell like flower

Tyson Fury: by the time I'm done with ya, you won't know what hit ya

He won

Nigeria has always used that stale line of respecting opponents Asif it's a thing in football. I just see it as Insurance for failure which has been with the team due to complacency.

Once you tell me a team lost due to overconfidence. I immediately know you're clueless grin

Football is not an academic exam.

None of them look like they made any positive progress for themselves or the team. Just wearing green and white joggers acting busy.
I said Championship coach. A championship coach should be employed to coach us as a part time job. He can work with a good local coach as assistant to do some of the intensive less technical jobs.

Osimhen missed, Moses missed, Dennis missed etc. There were chances though very few and if converted could have changed something.

We should not have over relied on him.

I complained about the setpieces thing before COVID-19 started. Lol and behold, Arsenal got a setpieces expert and have transformed the team in that aspect alone.

We can't even pretend like these things are magic or impossible to implement when the North African teams have such specialists and it's obvious in their games.

I guess someone just doesn't see the need to spend money despite the big cash coming in sometimes.

As in...
We won a corner late in the game and had Osimhen, Sadiq and Ighalo in the box.. Simon now played the corner low...I was annoyed...

JohnBullMySon:
It's easier to build a cohesive team in a clubside than a National team. In a club side, you can sign the players you want and build a team that maximises each player. In a National team, your domain of options is limited.

In a clubside, you train week in week out, so every player knows his teammate well, his abilities and his weaknesses. Every teammate knows they're positioned and how to get a great pass to each other. Almost every goal comes from a successful setup or pass. In the National team, players train between months. Not enough time to gel and master each other.

Lastly, the best coaches are at the clubsides. Because you know, we all follow the money.

To succeed as a National team, you must watch your players very well so that you can derive a playing pattern that suits everyone. If the players are then playing, they wouldn't need to adjust so much to play with each other.

I remember saying it here that Eguavoen was setting himself up for failure when he made statements that indicated he wasn't watching his players enough.

Did Rohr watch players? I'm not sure about that one. I do agree with everything you said.

Mujtahida:

What is all this talk about humility? Is it defeat their bends you peoples' minds abi na wetin?

Between Nigeria and Ghana, I can tell you that Ghana were so full of braggings. Nigerians largely kept quiet hoping the results would favor them and then they'd have unleashed venom on the Ghanaians but alas it was not to be.

So humility, how?
Someone said we did not respect our opponents. Mumu baseless talk.

Right from Afcon where I watched all Eguavoen's pre and post match pressers, one word he turned into an anthem was respect. He kept on and on about how we must respect our opponents down to when we faced Sudan and Guinea Bissau.

Now go watch Amuneke interview by NFF TV, he was realistic and measured in his statements.

So why is it been that so many of you come here and stress on the need for us to be humble as if it was because we lacked humility that we lost?

There are many factors that contribute to a team's success. It's simplistic or naive to say humility alone guarantees success.

The context of my statement was a response to someone who mentioned that a coach like Quiroz is too defensive for the attacking talents we parade.

We presently have decent players but not in the right balance. Too many forwards...a very lean midfield...fairly Okay defence.... an ongoing goalkeeping crisis.

A pragmatic coach might just be what we need now. The proponents of Jogo Bonito have adopted a more pragmatic approach in recent times which I think in part is due to the lack of players in the class of their golden generations.

During the 90s, we produced four different winners of the APOTY award.
Only one Nigerian has come close to winning the award in the last 18 years. Perhaps this is only indicative. Nigeria of the 90s was dominant and set a benchmark in terms of results and performances which I think might be difficult to replicate with our current set of players.

My opinion.

Today’s draw.

Ghana - Pot 4

Nigeria - Port Harcourt
Only Senegal stand a chance.
The other African representatives will be embarrassed
This year’s WC looks tough o

Serbia is a solid team but might not get out of their group. That’s to show some groups are hard. Denmark is another tactically sound team.
If any of these teams catch Nigeria, the beating ehn.

Waiting for Portugal v Senegal friendly

we ghanaians know that this is the weakest ever ghana team to qualify for a world cup but i think there is time for improvement with upcoming friendly matches and afcon qualifiers but guess what uruguay arent who they used to be also, as for portugal they have world class players but do not play well as a team... Korea will be our first ever asian opponent at a WC but we have a strong record against them... From now to november, alot of things can change both positively and negatively so lets wait and see.

I’m not rating Ghana chances because they beat us o, pages back I pointed out how Ghana played nonsense over both legs but I expect them to get more players in plus the coach would have spent more time with them. Also, both Portugal and Uruguay aren’t very reliable, they can fall hand anytime

The Eagles May fly high again. But Nigeria great again? Wait for your next president

Koboko99:
It's really painful knowing we are not going to the world cup, damn! It hurts!!!

But what is even more painful is the insults and name calling. See growns men throwing shades and insulting footballing for not getting the job done.

You think they don't want to go to the world cup?

You think they are not pained?

Do you understand what it is to have the fate of over 200 million people in your hands ana yet you fail them?

We lost to our biggest rivals on away goal rule.

Some people are even saying the thread should be shut down. Common guys!!

We need to do better as a people!

Now we need to go back to the drawing board and start planning for the future, identify the problems and start working to create solutions if not we will end up worse.

Strength is having each other's backs and supporting ourselves through the darkest hours.

Nigeria will be great again! The Eagle will fly again!

The most important thing is whether the cockiness matches the actual ability.

The examples you gave buttress that point.

Fury is a generational talent and yeah, he is cocky... can we say the same about Samuel Peter?

I don't agree. This Ghanaian side is a good team. U guys just didn't want to hear any stories about the AFCON exit but Dede Ayew's Red was criminal and I don't think Comoros beats ghana 11 on 11. Once Ayew returns I expect an even better attack. The defense with Amartey leading is very solid. Midfield will be as good as many at the WC, iddrisu Baba was even supposed to replace Partey at atletico. If u guys go in there with the right mentality anything can happen.

If Senegal looseguard Ecuador will upset them ,they should take Ecuador seriously ,because if a team can qualify for the World Cup ahead of Colombia and Uruguay the team is good enough

Still on still ,tipping the Netherlands and Senegalese to scale through ,but anything can still happen

The Super Eagles lacks a leader!

Rohr was right. We do not have players who can single handedly win a game. Players in the calibre of Jay Jay, Kanu Nwakwo, Sunday Oliseh, and the irreplaceable Vincent Enyeama.

Rather than than allowing this to sink in. We ve sold lies to ourselves and we ve projected it to the lads. Reason why players like Moses Simon, Osihmen, Chukwueze etc felt they can pull it alone. We went into the double legged game counting on a debative individual talent rather than a collective team effort.

Missing out at the world stage is painful. This hurt will linger to the end of the tornament in December. What a long year ahead for true Eagles supporters.

Unpopular opinion,
Rohr, though not a sound tactician, should be offer a position of a chief scout for the National Teams.

Man seem to have Nigeria at heart. His post world cup qualification interviews are touching. Man sounds like someone who is adopting Nigeria as his second country.

Amaju, pending the glass house election later in the year, should stick to administration and stop canvassing for foreign borns. He sucks at it.

Iwobi's moment of brilliance against Zambia in 2017 WCQ keeps playing in my head.

V. Moses, Iwobi, Balogun and Ekong have been the biggest steal in the last decade. Others haven't really lived up to expectations
