Federal Government Accuses Ghana, Others Of Lobbying Companies To Leave Nigeria by BeeBeeOoh(m): 10:22am On Apr 08, 2022
Minister of industry, trade and investment, Otumba Adeniyi Adebayo, yesterday told the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts that several African countries were lobbying companies registered and operating in Nigeria to relocate to their countries.

The minister who led other agencies under the ministry to appear before the committee to respond to queries from the auditor-general of the federation said the Nigerian government was doing everything possible to ensure that such companies don’t leave again.

He said many of the countries, including Ghana has increased their capital allowances to companies and have taken away lots of investment from the country, adding that what is keeping some companies in the country today is Nigeria’s population.

He said the government was looking for ways of increasing the level of new investment in the country and sustaining existing ones, saying “our duty is to support investment growth In Nigeria. It is public knowledge that getting this investment is increasingly becoming difficult today.”

Earlier in his remarks, the chairman of the committee, Oluwole Oke, said several companies g in the country were in the habit of not paying the required revenue to government leading to lack of funds for government services.

Oke said, “Nigeria is bleeding. We are borrowing daily to finance our budget and the minister of finance has said the reason we are borrowing is because we are not collecting the revenue we are supposed to collect.

“The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment has issued some instruments which earned companies tax breaks and tax holidays. But this scheme has been abused by the companies.

“When some of these companies appeared before this committee, we noticed from their presentation elements of tax invasion. For example, China Habour got a waiver of N5 billion to import nails and wire nets. In my village, we have a company that manufactures nails, but cost of manufacturing nails locally is higher than those imported. So, how do we encourage local production?

I beg to differ. The country is a leaky ship in the heart of the ocean... Hence, it's sinking.

A country whose citizens are fleeing in their numbers due to your bad policies. How do you expect companies to remain when they run into losses for operating in your country.

Even if they were wooed, would they agree to leave if you made the country business friendly? The answer is obvious.

I keep wondering at the crop of people posing as leaders in this country.

Industries do not run when there is an enabling environment for businesses , they will not leave.

Common sense is not so common these days

It is no longer Ipob it is now Ghana. It seeme the problem of the APC government is not just Cluelessness but out right gross stupidity.

It is Ghana that planted insecurity, raised the exchange rate and destroyed Naira. It is Ghana that is stealing the crude , stealing subsidy money and marginalizing one of the worlds most enterprising race and tribe. It is Ghana that destroyed the power sector and reduced Nigeria to a country run on generator

These useless he goats should be shown the way out of power biko.

Will you blame those countries? We're not a serious country and those investors know this. Take away our population and the God given mineral resources, they won't even agree to fly over our airspace.

If those companies are leaving Nigeria to operate in Ghana while using the same ECOWAS trade agreements and protocols that the Ghanaians have abused ceaselessly to unload their products in the Nigerian market, The Nigerian government should place high tariffs on these products! Simple! We have the size and numbers to bully these countries and if not for these ijiots with NEPA certificates in power, countries like Ghana and Benin Republic can't be caught playing Nigeria like this..

When you can't provide electricity for the industries, price of gas and diesel have gone up, taxations and levies everywhere from Customs and co.. how won't they leave?

You won't see Ghana president donating 1 million US dollars to an Islamic country while his country has trillions of naira in debt and relies solely on loans to function. The Customs in Ghana and those other countries are not strangling industrialists like their Nigerian counterparts do. Should we talk about the corruption that has eaten deep into the system?
I can't blame those companies to be honest. Since the ab0kis only care about Dangote and how to give him monopoly in every sector, soon only Dangote, BUA and co. will be listed on the Nigerian stock market

Any company that leaves Nigeria for Ghana must not be allowed to import their products into Nigeria. Let them choose between the Nigerian market and those tiny nations.

Warn Ghana that if they try it again, we will ensure that no company in their country will sell to Nigeria without establishing in Nigeria First.

Let's see how fast they learn.

Chai. This set of people in govt are the most backward in history.

What's stopping FG from doing their own lobbying? Always looking for who to blame for their uselessness and failure.

As if Ghana needed to do much, to get companies to leave Nigeria for them. Who will choose a Terrorist-ridden country, with no constant power supply, clueless leaders, stvpid policies/ exorbitant taxes and a totally failed economy over a country with constant light, no terrorism, fast growing economy, good business environment and actual leaders?

I call it a smart move . Stop accusing them rather woo them.

Nigeria's unfriendly business environment and bad leadership caused this country to be this backward. With the trend globally, the west would have thronged this country today and wooed our government for their gas needs. Shell left, they didn't care. Solgas left, they didn't bother. Wilbros left , they cared less. Michelin left, nothing was done to stop the trend. Dunlop, UAC, Nigerite followed suit but they kept deceiving Nigerians that our economy was booming. PZ left , other FMCGs too. And if you attack them.they'd tell you what's the population of Ghana? Development na by population? Mthcheew.

I've been to Switzerland. That country is powerful and if its destroyed today, the entire world would never remain the same again. What's the population of Switzerland compared to that of Nigeria? What about UK, the Netherlands, etc?. If we are sincere to ourselves, Nigerian population is over 300m and not the fake 200m plus they keep telling us without conducting census to prove that. Beninnois Cefa had remained stable for decades. Now, cefa has met naira and left it behind in value. If you ask our government, they'd say its because Nigeria was hit by economic recession, covid-19 blablabla yet politicians and people in government keep stealing money. If our judicial system wasn't corrupt, Andrew Yakwubu wouldn't have won that case. A former GMD stashing millions of dollars in his village and powering it with a generator to keep the ac cooling it running 24/7. That's how they role. Crude theft is on the rise. We learnt malami and Co did a shady deal of crude during lock down but no investigation was carried out on it till date . Dat one don enter voice mail.

Down south , jagaban paraded bullion vans on a broad day light and nobody dared arrest him. These are the leaders some people are worshiping like god.

What's wrong with our youths ? If they don't rescue this country from their hands next year, I doubt if they ever can, again. And if they come out with any yeye protest, I'd not support them rather I'd tag them cowards.

grin Useless insecurity consumed Nigeria with Satanic Buhari as leader, and Senseless Coward Southern Nigerian Men that can't Manup to Counter Slaughter and Flush out the Killer Fulanis from their Father Land, are being dumped like bad habit left, right and center! Ghana Economy has never Growns so fast and so Big in History like since when Buhari took over. Only those thinking with their anus would Expect the Foreign Companies not to quickly relocate to Stable Electricity and Sensible People that are always Ready to Secure and Defend their Land. I hope you all know that the Bloodthirsty Satanic Fulanis Test-Started their Killings in Ghana in 2018, but Ghanaians quickly rose up as real Men picked up Guns and mercilessly Flushed out the Fulanis out of their Father Land! Today, Ghana is fast becoming the most Developed Peaceful Country in West Africa.

Good
Nothing like accuses.

I once tried resolving something like this among Vendors that rented shops in our organization.

A Vendor has his/her own unique commodity, so there won't be dispute. A particular Vendor kept languishing that others use to bad mouth what she sells, that, that particular commodity is not available

Being the Manager, when my MD got to know, he blamed me for interfering: that they'd make their commodity better and advertise
