Living in Nigeria is hard... don't make it harder for yourselves by studying Nonsense

Getsaved:
Never regret the course you studied in school. The course you wished you studied some people still regretted studying it. Never you regret what you studied because it did'nt bring in as much money or lively hood as you thought. In my opinion, I would say it is the country in which we find ourselves and it is not your fault you were born in Nigeria, you did not choose the country or parent by which you would be born. So never you regret your course of study because it did not bring you much as you envisage. People study social study, dancing, crying, linguistics, biology, e.t.c in civilised country yet they live very well with thesame course you studied in Nigeria. Nigeria does not support research and Development ( R&grin ), that is why their few factories and industries are collapsing, that is why their citizens are poor, that is why their graduates never find good place to put their study to good use, that is why many of their graduates regrets the course they study in school, that is why their graduates regrets going to school (hence they say "school is scam"wink, and so on and so forth. If what you study has not bring much as you thought, go for skill courses, or I.T. skill. Never say school is scam because your country and many of your people only support and sing praise of corrupt people. If you did not go to school you would understand better. Academic education mostly develop your capacity to think, research, speak, articulate and well polished so that even if you go to some other field you would moderately do well. But if you went to school and it was not you who really read and pass your exams, or did your assignments, research, projects, then you would say school is scam. That what you studied has not brought in as much as you want does not mean your education was worthless. If you really did study without "expo.", examination malpractice of any kind, then you should know the other things education did for you apart from being gainfully employed.

**** this is my humble opinion****

this is a blatant lie, all this recycling or reshaping of the truth and putting the bitter truth in a subtle way is the reason children keep falling into the same pit, not all courses are the same and not all courses are paying but.u had better go for a future u see, than to have faith on a dead course, this is the same lie they told me and keep telling me that I'm young and I have many years ahead of me till I hit 40 and I realize that I don't av any achievements to my name and it becomes apparent that I was lied to all those years cos probably parents don't want their children to wrangle with the thoughts of depression or some parents secretly don't want their children to be more successful than them, yes is true, some parents don't want their children to be more better off than them, it's going to remind them of how a failure they have been in their own lives, I still struggle to accept this as a truth but I've swallowed it and is bitter,

Dear Sir,

May God bless you for this. Even if Him nor want bless you before, make Him bless you twice and without delay.

It's only a fool that would ignore this advice of yours.

While in the university, I just wanted to graduate due to the hardship I was going through then. Lecturers rarely knew me. Except in final year when I was opportuned to lead two teams on research (project team and engineering design teams) both under very cerebral professors. In fact, my HOD only knew who I was when a company wanted to recruit the best students and he had to call me since I graduated amongst the best.

Recently, I became interested in foreign scholarships and saw the essence of research experience, publications, and leadership experiences. Na so I go back go publish my project. Did research assistant for free (it was very very very stressful) and working on other publications too.

When I wanted to start applying for grad school, my undergrad project supervisor was angry that I didn't inform him that I was having issues getting my transcript. This professor used his influence to help me get it on time from a Federal University ooo. I cried tears of joy. You need to see the strong recommendations I got from two professors, my HOD and 3 other lecturers. They school will request for 2 recommendations and I'll supply 3 grin Which school nor go respect HOD and professors recommendations?

By God's grace, it's paying off. I applied and get MS positions with funding. The last time, the professor (over there) was telling me she would be glad I join her and that she would do all within her power to help with funding. I just shock. I just collected my transcript this January ooo and applied after deadline while some I just hurriedly applied cos deadline was fast approaching.

If I tell you that I never knew about scholarships till last year, you go shock and LinkedIn made it possible cause I saw my classmate from another dept wey don JAPA. I regretted not knowing this while in school.

Now, I tell the young people in my dept that they should "chingum" a lecturer and beg him to allow them participate in his/her research, they ignore me. I would have kept quiet but I now see my mistakes and I don't want them to repeat it.

NOTE

Please if you're an undergraduate in any University in Nigeria, don't joke with that our oga I quoted just said. Don't joke with your lecturers thinking that you would need them after school, Las Las you would always come back.

Please be humble, be kind and respect them.

Insightful comment. A lot of Nigerians don't know the opportunities available in their disciplines.... Even zoology and agricultural sciences graduates dey Japa anyhow

pharmacy is very enjoyable to practice.

Notice I didn’t pick any professional course above it?

Because to me there’s none above it. Doctors who are their competitors don’t even make how much they make in community pharmacies.

I only pick Tech, Business and then Politics above Pharmacy.

Don’t even mention oil industry cos it’s literally no longer existent in Nigeria again.

Pharmacy is very great among other professional courses in Nigeria but Tech boys and their dollars don spin my eyes with their Dollars.

Studying forestry, shout out to all foresters out there. Purifying the ecosystem. Life is tree and tree is life. Without trees there is no life.

Only NDA and polac guarantees job in Nigeria, it's just like 20 per state they select, out of like 500, the rest won't get anything unless if they will go for their third choice a polytechnic or private university.

You studied an engineering course that's why you think things will be better if you had studied law or accounting, some doctors and lawyers wish they studied engineering, even now that I'm studying forestry, I wish I am studying engineering. LOL. Engineering that we were applied for like twice till we settled for one, that is what someone is regretting.
It is after NYSC that you will know that your lecturers had been deceiving you. In your own interest, if possible, apply for a good course.

Pharmacy and computer are not part of them sir, instead, medical laboratory and make sure you know it intoto, as a medical lab scientist, just attach urself to 3 to 5 private medical doctors in ur area, you can tell them you would be given them returns from ur proceed.......with that, sky is ur limit.

See this guy, medical laboratory graduates are at the bottom of the chain in healthcare sector. It's profitable if you own your laboratory. Working in the private sector is shiits compared to pharmacy and radiography graduates. It's a bit better than nursing. But nursing have this international opportunities above it.

You keep on hammering i
on get job, getting job in India or England? How many vacancies for pharmacy graduates on naija soil?

I insist, if you know what u are doing, medical lab, fine art, are far far better than all these so called big courses.

Pharmacy without white collar job is as useless as frensh language graduates ,or better open shop to sell chemist, chemist that anybody can sell.

I will advice you to just go to medical lab and try to imagining money they realize from tests.

Ensure you graduate with a good result from school and at least among the best 4% of your class, write GRE and TOEFL, and JAPA.

While in school, reach out to your lecturers and beg them to include your name as a co-author in their publications. I made this mistake in my undergrad days but thank God for His mercies.

Chemistry is heavily funded in US and Canada (much emphasis on the heavily).

I know you didn't mean this to mean an exhaustive list of good courses to go for.

The fact is all courses are important so far you were not forced to study any of them.

I have seen broke people in all the courses you listed up there and I have as well seen many successful people in the same list of the courses mentioned.

But The FACT is ;
Do what you love and follow it with the last drop of your blood and see money coming in months or years to come.

If you are so good In any course or profession, you will be sought after all over the world.

Thanks

If it's not any of the above, abeg sit down for house, use that money you would have used to pay school fees and get a Laptop... start learning to code,in 8 months time, you'll be glad you did so.

What I came to realize about life is this; our parents know what they've seen when they urge and insist we study "professional" courses in school, but we young folks disregard their point of view as "ancient"... I for example was studying Botany in the university, reasoned what I'll do with this thing in the long run... omorr I saw I was just wasting my time oh,took jamb in my third year, applied for pharmacy in a federal university, got the admission... I'm really glad I made that decision.
