Do you deliver the project on time or do you deliver the project well done?

Very loaded question, especially if the project is supposed to generate income for the business.

For management, on time is always better than well done. I learned that the hard and bitter way. You tell management the truth - that this project cannot be feasibly delivered in this timeline, they will push you out and get someone who will say it can. It then becomes a game of managing expectations.

Ironically I have read that the iPhone was not ready when Steve jobs presented it. A lot of smoke and mirrors goes into project commissioning ceremonies because the owners have set a date in stone for showtime

I guess you have to identify the critical parts of the job that MUST BE Ready, and focus on those while putting off non critical parts to later.

Also for the end user and management you must focus on finishing / UI. A well presented incomplete project can fool the people who need to be fooled

@bolded: perfectionists won't like that, but it is how it is. I prefer someone executing on time and then amendment rather than waiting long for something thoroughly done that will still be amended. After all, there no perfect project.

I prefer a job well done coz it is probably not have a negative effect and it will be perfectly executed to a job done on time.

When a job is done on time, it's simply applauded and tagged job well done, don't get it twisted..

Nigeria HR place so much interest in interview questions rather than putting everyone into a practical test and the best gets the job...

On Fiverr or Upwork, your skill earns you a job and not all that interviews or what you wear and how you dressed.

Lots of professors dressed stupid.... And they get more jobs from different universities because their intellects speaks volume.

We need to stop that nonsense..

Nigerian youths will study hoe to answer interview questions and will put little efforts into performance....
Tell them my dear. Always laying emphasis on copy copy theory instead of practicality of ideas.

A job well done

A job done on time is useless if it's poorly/wrongly done

aunty something "well done" is tantamount to perfect, in perfection there is no room for amendment, imperfection is only limited to living things, objects & projects can be perfect.

In my own agbero knowledge, i will settle for a job well done cos a job in time not properly done will later demand more time, effort and sometimes extra financing undecided
As far as production & services are concerned only efficiency can overrule time without adverse consequences in the short & long run.

In a scenario where a lot of people are capable of the job both intellectually and skillfully, these interview questions come in handy in screening some people out..
Imagine a company in Lagos wanting to employ a very good programmer as their staff in Lagos, do you know how many thousands of people are very good programmers? This is where unimportant things like how you dress and all these funny questions come in handy to screen people out.

Put all of them into test... which ever comes out victorious ... gets the job

Very stupid question imo. Go and ask this question to people who do brown collar jobs or even professionals, like doctors, engineers, architects and see if you're not setting yourself to be stupid or even worse, to fail.

What he's tryna say is there's no question of having to pick one outta the two. With top-notch project management methodologies ad processes, it is absolutely possible to get a completed in good time and quality.

what if the process of getting the job done well takes more time than expected? Are you going to wrap it up to save time or take more time to ensure its properly done?? fully aware that their is no time to get the job done.

This usually happens because skill and competency differs. The reason why some excel in carrying out tasks, no matter how herculean, and we say they're outstanding.

Look at sprinters at the Olympics. They do the same race, e.g. 100m and finish at different times. Some even go ahead to break records. Your strength (speed, accuracy, competence) makes you stand out. That explains how or why you will be able to do a thorough job and still make deadline while some will struggle at it.

There's always somebody somewhere who is excellent, magnificent, superb and OUTSTANDING.

This has nothing to do with Nigeria. That's just how interviews are conducted. Remember, the interview is not all about technical skills, that's why we have technical interviews and culture fit. You can be technically sound but behavioural wise, you may not fit into the company's culture.

Mind you, na oyibo people carry am for head oo, naija still dey learn.

Is there any job that doesn't require practicals?

Whether technical or not...

Oyibo gives you job based on your output performance... Not how well you answer interview questions....

You can be given a job online by answering few questions and passing a practical test....

A job well done is definitely a job done on time cos time(duration) is also a criterion for judging a job well done but a job done on time might not necessarily mean a job well done thus I go for a job welldone.

very good and clever respond. But what will be the first thing you shld do noticing that the job needs more time to be properly done?
I would tell the client the exact time I would be done with the job. And would even offer to give them a discount i.e 50% in case I don't meet up. The client would surely be eager to know if I can meet up or not so he could get his 50% discount and a well done job.

If there's no way i can do the two, then i will go for a job well done.

The reason is because quality is key in any business , and every customer wants quality product.
So at the end of the day quality will justify the delay.
But on the other hand which excuse will you give?

E go shock you. After focusing on quality, you will personally still see errors on the task you took eternity to deliver.

Deliver the to time. It means you are reliable.
I understand your plight. I think it also depend on what the person wants. But on a average note quality is better than quantity.

There is OO possible way everyone of them will do score the same.

Is like trying to employ a cook and you ask 5 applicants to cook your favourite food.

One will definitely taste unique. Meaning all of them will definitely cook better.. But you will go with one.

Just like auditions, one person must be a winner... And by votes.

Every company have a managerial committee. When putting these people into test, the committee will vote for their choice and that's all.....

Can this same scenario apply when you're employing a programmer or maybe a technician to your company? If you give such people a test concerning their work, plenty of them will do perfectly. This is where interviews come in..

Even in harvard, after giving applicants exams to write, plenty of them passes. That's why they call each of the successful applicants for physical interview. That's where another screening commences

This is one of those "read the room" questions.
Technical interviewers would like to hear job well done. Business side interviewers would like to hear on time.

But honestly the best response you can't go wrong with is Achieving balances through Compromise.
