Hy Guys
Please I have passport expiring by 20th march.

Now I have gotten admission and will likely be submitting my details by June.

Now my question is, since I'd likely have 9months validity from submission date, hope it won't affect my UDI application?

Someone said that we must have 18months passport validity before applying to UDI.

Please who knows much about this

Got an admission to University of Stavanger since last week, with a cgpa of 3.88/5.00.

But won't be accepting, even though i have the resources ready. The feedback about getting work after study isn't encouraging.

I will work towards an English speaking country.

I will advice you accept it. Some people going to Norway see it as a transit to a country of their choice. It will be easy to move to other countries after your studies in Norway .

Hello house. I have a question which may sound funny but consider this scenario: if I apply to 2 schools, one bachelor one MSc and I get accepted to both schools, and I accept both offers. Can I use the masters acceptance to process Visa then resume in Norway for the bachelors programme?

Accept the offer.

1. It is rare to get admitted into the bachelor's programme (which is mainly in Norwegian) as a Nigerian from Nigeria
2. It is not possible because the duration for MSc programs is two years while bachelor's is 3-4 years. Your visa will reflect the period you will be in the country as a student, and that is what everyone (school, employers and immigration) would work with.

When you go for your renewal, the school you are studying in has to send an appraisal letter to UDI. That's where your problem will start.

Truly its a funny one which I have never seen before.

Do you have in excess of N12m to send to Norway as per the POF for both schools?

And if you do, you may succed in getting the visa but where you will run into roadblocks is when you have to renew your study permit. The school through which you were granted a visa has to send a document to immigration showing that you are still a student but in your case it wont happen therefore UDI will most likely reject your renewal request & your dishonesty will be laid bare.

Its a sharp suggestion to game their system but one which will collapse when the time comes.

Anyone asking you not to accept admission offer from any Norwegian higher institutions probably due to the fact that there might not be job poststudy, is an enemy of progress and a lover of retrogression. There are jobs in Norway, it all depends on networking. Are there jobs in Nigeria? Since you graduated from the university, have you done any job that paid you very well in Nigeria? Norway is better than so many countries in the world. I have friends who studied in Japan, Sweden and Germany and if you ask them to relocate to US or Canada or even UK, they would turn down the offer. What matters in life is determination or passion to succeed. I stayed in Nigeria for 22 years without achieving anything but the moment I travelled to Norway to be with my elder brother, in 2 years, I got what I couldn't get in my 22 years in Nigeria. There are jobs in Norway, jobs like hotel cleaning or working in seafood industries or groceries. A friend of mine who works as a part-time worker while studying MSc is earning 198 NOK per hr.. From Norway, you can go to any country of your choice. The most important thing here is leaving hellish Nigeria. I know that Language is a barrier in getting job but that does not limit you from getting job. Apply to schools in Oslo, Bergen, stavenger and Trondheim, these are cities with most jobs. After your MSc, you apply for PhD and you get paid yearly of more than 450,000 NOK once taken... For PhD positions and other jobs in Norway, make use of these sites www.jobbnorge.no www.finn.no and for a wider view about Norway, use www.studyinnorway.no and www.namastefromnorway.com

We are in the same decision. I also got admission in University of Stavanger and i will not be going there. Language barrier and challenges of post study job will let me reject going to Norway.

I will rather channel my energy to an English speaking country and undergo all stress and cost of relocation once.

The most we can do is use Duolingo app to get familiar with the language as prospective students. You cannot just easily learn the language before arriving in Norway. The best way to learn the language is through practice and it's easier when you are already in Norway, attending language classes, surrounding yourself with Norwegian speakers, and practicing the language with them. 2 years is enough to get a grasp of the language if you put your mind to it.

I agree to some extent that you cannot easily learn the language before you get to Norway. The best way of learning a language is surrounding yourself with speakers.

And I also disagree that you cannot fully learn it until you arrive Norway. When I got here, two people testified about a lady that learnt Norwegian before arriving here. I got to meet her last month and she said she learnt it to a degree she could make herself understood and to a very good extent understand people all under 9 months.

Let me share a story. I went for an interview just 7 days I arrived here and after a smooth exercise, the Norwegian said it was unfortunate he couldn't hire me despite he being interested in my skill set but me not speaking the language made him reach the conclusion to not offer me the job. He then advised I take my time to learn the language and get used to the system.

When you get here, the locals will tell you to take your time. Unless you have all the money in the world and can afford to not work. Then you may take your time. But If you are like me who slightly regrets not making the move to leave Nigeria at a younger age and now has a family to take care of, you won't take your time. You have to hit the ground running.

If you are student and at the same time have to work alongside your studies, the 2 years you estimated might turn out to be prolonged. As the stress of daily life might prevent you from mixing with Norwegian speakers.

You won't realize the seriousness of this language matter until you get here.

For all of you advising him to take up the offer, I will advise him not to take it if he does not feel comfortable with it. We here know Norway is a great country but its not a country for everyone. Jobs are difficult to get not to talk of professional jobs. Hence people use it as a transit country.

When I left Nigeria for Norway, a friend of mine also left for UK at the same time and he got a job after one week (even though it was not a professional job) while I was still searching for a job without success. Since I had a family to feed and was under financial stress, i had no choice but to start searching for any job and that still proved difficult. Eventually I got something to do and my financial stress ended but it was initially tough.

A lady also on this thread got admission to study the same course as my wife but she turned it down and headed to the UK with her family. Her husband and her were able to get basic jobs early.

A Ghanian friend I have in Stavanger has a job with Schlumberger waiting for him in Italy but he his reluctant to leave Norway and is trying his best to get a job but its been difficult.

Getting a professional job in Norway is difficult after studies as our names, colour and inability to speak Norwegian is a disadvantage.

So my friend, go to an english speaking country if you do not feel comfortable with Norway.

Norway is not everyone's destiny! Although It is one of the best countries in the world with a system better than America or England but getting a job is difficult unlike those english speaking countries.

Norway or English speaking country?? The main thing is leaving Nigeria for a western country!!

Cool Write up, you really nailed it.
Norway is really difficult in terms of Job hunting as a foreigner most especially in populated cities or counties like Stavanger, Oslo, Bergen and Drammen etc.
You might get lucky working menial or Blue- collar jobs as a Student or whatever
Less populated cities found in Trondelag counties have better chances of job opportunities than populated cities.
Norway is extremely expensive, I repeat extremely expensive.
In all one should always be positive

There is no place getting a job is easy. Even in Nigeria today, is there job let alone getting it? If you're in Norway and are very smart, you can move to any country in the world if you choose to. So many guys in Norway usually visit Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Spain and other EU countries during holidays and make friends together with looking out for other opportunities. What is the need of even relocating when MSc to PhD is tuition free and you get paid as PhD student more than PhD students in the US, UK and Canada and these are opportunities our own Country Nigeria can never offer us. One of my friends that did his PhD in Norway, travelled to more than 12 countries (UK, US, Canada and Bahamas inclusive) during his PhD.. I repeat, the most important thing is leaving "HELLISH NIGERIA". However, if you have the money for Canada, UK, US, Australia or New Zealand ( to go to these aforementioned countries, budget at least 10m naira and above especially with the rate at which dollar is rising against the Naira) then go. Who would even see tuition free education and embrace paid tuition education.
If you're an I.T, computer sciencist, software engineer, Nurse or Doctor, head to Norway. The pay in those field is the highest in the world currently.
