HeyHey:
@lionize, @Mobil567 @ebim

I just got admitted and by Gods grace, will be coming with 2kids. Following your experience, I will apply for myself first before the kids bc them never get passport.

My questions are as follows:
1. Has your family joined you?, did you register for kids school from Nigeria
2. Accomodation, I saw some places on sssb and facebook, I was advised to queue but was discouraged when I see the waiting time as 1119 days
3. What should I note about bringing kids to Stockholm as Na only me and them Dey come
4. All other insights and contributions are welcomed

Hej, get their passport sharp sharp and apply for everybody same time. After you get, you can leave them behind and pick them later. Unless money for account no go cover everybody for now.

Further, don't mind the wait time. Register and join student Union, then register with sssb and start shooting. But accommodation sure pass for Facebook, sssb accomodation is cheap.
Also, you can register with some housing agencies (costs between 200 and 400kr per year).
Also, bostad.blocket.se

Sorry, been away from NL for a while. Which school? Congratulations.

Warning to anyone coming to Stockholm, there are some accommodation scammers on Facebook.

If you have anyone around, make sure they check the place before you pay.

Anyone who tells you he/she is advertising for someone else, and can only send you pictures, or requests for your email to send you pictures, or passes your phone number to the "landlord" or gives you the "landlord's" number, and the area is Stockholm, then it is 99.999999% scam.

Good Morning,

Have you taken out time to read through https://www.migrationsverket.se? If you haven't, please do.
If you still don't find the answer to your question, you can ask again.

This also applies to other people, please read https://www.migrationsverket.se and familiarise yourself with the requirements for the study permit. Repeating stuff (you can easily find online) multiple times is a daunting task and that's why this thread is somewhat idle.

Thanks for your understanding

Thanks so much. I have seen a majority of the info...

I applied for admission in the first round application process and I was admitted to my third priority choice while I have been placed in the waiting list for my first priority choice.
From the admission selection results 15 persons were admitted for the course while I'm no. 3 on the waiting list.
My worry is that the number of people admitted has reduced to 13 but I am still no.3 on the waiting list.
Please, why is my number on the waiting list not changing? Does it me I have to decline my first admission before my number on reserve the list will change?
Re: Swedish Admissions And Student Visa by Mobil567: 8:55am On Apr 15, 2022
Tbh, I see waiting list as a friendly way of telling you to move on. No doubt, some people are later on considered but don’t put all your hopes on it.

Perhaps wait until SI result is out and maybe more people will drop, then you can get a higher chance of getting in.

My dear, I am giving them benefits of doubt otherwise university of Gothenburg that gave me admission is higher in ranking as well as cheaper tuition than Södertörn University which is my first priority. I'm only considering them because the course I applied there won't stress me and will give me time to work. Another reason is that I refer Stockholm to Gothenburg.

Are you in Sweden?
The study permit issued to you as a student is work permit in Sweden. I hope people are not mistaking work permit to mean Permanent Residency.

For those coming to Sweden, if a potential employer demands for work permit just give your Resident permit, and that is it. The only thing you need to be fine is getting your personnummer (tax ID), many employers wouldn't want to deal without that. But still, some will do.

“Hello,
We offer free accommodation in hostels 6-bed dorm room that you share with other volunteers and in exchange we expect you to do different tasks in the hostel for 2-3 hours a day.

The job tasks that volunteers do take about 2-3 hours each day and are shared between 2-4 volunteers. You share the tasks with other volunteers and you guys coordinate your work together.

Tasks:
- work on reception helping guests with their bookings,
- provide linens and towels to the guests,
- Clean the hostel during your shifts,
- report about hostel conditions every day”

sorry, I noticed I couldn't post anything here yesterday.
If you ask me, that's not any good deal. It simply means you working 3 hours per day to have a hostel accommodation. If you will be in stockholm, mba! That time is enough to make enough money to pay your rent (5k) and feed yourself. But if you are using it to just get an accommodation before you come in, well, that doesn't sound ok. No be say the accommodation na better one sef.

Wait o, na job dem dey offer you and the only payment is an open hostel accommodation?

Hey, I just noticed Nairaland deleted the post. Even the one I sent yesterday. DO they have a new rule I broke?
Get your kids passport now and apply together for everybody, it is easier. I realised I could only do that from here only when I have personnummer. And my personnummer took about 4 months to be issued (Stockholm matter, I learnt outside stockholm it's quicker). It's not up to one month I got my Swedish ID card. You can get their permit, and then bring them later. But the money in account that should take care of them needs to be considered as well.

The Resident permit is work permit.

Re: Swedish Admissions And Student Visa by Lionize: 7:58am On Apr 18, 2022
For the people with family, it is better you apply for your family. When you are here, applying for them becomes dependent on you having personnummer and having the right size of accommodation for the family (you know what that means). For people outside Stockholm, i learnt it comes more quickly, but it took me about 4 months to get. I came in 28th of October, visited the tax office on 4th of November to apply for it, but it was issued end of February. It took another 3 weeks or 4 so to get my Swedish ID card. But you would want to consider the money in your bank account if it will be able to take care of all according to Swedish Migration requirements. And also, if it is convenient to pay the application fee for each, 2,000kr for your wife, and 1,000kr each for little children (I don't know for grown children).

Again, Resident permit is work permit here, and that is what Sweden issues to students. If you are staying less than 3 months in Sweden, then you will be issued visa, and that does not permit you to work. So, anytime employer asks for your work permit, just show your Resident permit. Many employers won't want to employ you if you don't have tax ID, some do (I started working before I got my tax ID). The same thing with the banks. Some banks will outrightly tell you they can't deal without personnummer or cordination number (like Sedbank and Nordea), but others will consider (Handelsbanken and Danske) with plenty wahala.

But SEB will deal and regularise later. But for SEB, I visited them in November and they gave me an appointment for February 24. I thought I would never go back to them But by february 24th, the other banks were still going back and forth. I had to go back to SEB and they opened the account immediately. Only that I couldn't have a bankID and swish. But as soon as I got my ID card, I went back to them and all was regularised.

But I learnt that all these are easier outside Stockholm.
in summary, for the family guy, na now I just dey apply for my family. Apply for them now if you can and would want them to be with you here. Then you can travel alone initially and bring them over whenever it is convenient.
I hope this doesn't get deleted.

Yes, na job, and the payment is the accommodation.

What skills are in demand?, also, can you advise me on bringing children (2kids).
Re: Swedish Admissions And Student Visa by Mobil567: 10:07am On Apr 18, 2022
Here's my opinon,

I HIGHLY doubt you and your kids will be comfortable in a 6-bed hostel. Are they even aware of your kids? because that's 3 beds occupied which may mean more work for you.

but let's assume you go ahead with it. Imagine working 3 hours a day, shuffling with 2 kids and uni work as a new commer? that will be a nightmare. Moreover, you cannot use such housing to apply for your personal number. And the earlier you get your PN, the better because that's when your time in Sweden starts counting. So I advise you to keep searching for housing. Look on Facebook rental groups too, but beware of scams. Do not pay any holding deposit except you have someone in Sweden to view the place and verify its authenticity.

Bringing your kids or not doesn't matter. If you can bring them if you want to, or leave them with their father/close relative in Nigeria while you settle. That decision is up to you, based on your capability to handle stress.

Lastly, if you decide to go ahead with the hostel accommodation, make sure to get a contract and read the conditions thoroughly to know your rights/risks. You don't want a situation where you are kicked out for unforeseen reasons and you are stranded.

goodluck.

Hello house, a friend visited me today and I told him about my plans to relocate to sweden.... and after telling him about the cost especially as I will be paying my tuition fee of 42500 SEK (1,840,000 naira) and maybe 1,000,000 for accommodation, feeding, flight... totalling to approximately 3m.
My friend turned to a motivational speaker advising me to use the money and start a business in Nigeria instead. Meanwhile, I have not done business before but I have interest in iron and steel business. Note, I studied Economics upto masters before studying law hence I practice law but I really want to do business which is the reason I planned to study in Sweden and work to save enough money and then establish a business in a mega way in the next 5 years. I am confused if to start now or move to Sweden and start in 5 years time.... please what do you think is the best option for me?
Re: Swedish Admissions And Student Visa by Mobil567: 10:47pm On Apr 18, 2022
Pray/meditate, follow your heart and the repetitive voice in your head.

But your budget is quite unrealistic.
Yes you only need 42,500kr to kickstart your sweden movement but you better have another 42,500kr (or close amount after rent deduction) that will be due in December for your 2nd semester. No amount of work you will do, will pay your rent and still offer you that 42,500kr between September- December. And you need 30credits at least, to switch permits. Then 1m for accommodation + flight is also unrealistic.
You should have at least 3 months rent and that will already take most of that 1m. Flight with Egyptair cheapest maybe 200k per person. Feeding, local transport and basic items on arrival, let’s say 50-80k.

Try to increase that budget if you eventually decide on Sweden. Goodluck

I've made some lengthy posts and they all got deleted.

If you want to come with your family, prepare for them as you preparing for yourself, unless the money in your account won't be enough to handle all. The reason is, when you get here, it will be more difficult getting their application filed. The simple reason is that you will need a personnummer to do that then. If you are outside Stockholm, I learnt it's easier, but in Stockholm I came in on 29th of October, and applied for my personnummer on 4th of November, it was issued end of february. You know what that means.
