This is a ridiculous and meaning less write up. The total amount that most candidates even in the state house of assembly spend including the form is far more than what a presidential candidate will be spending in Nigeria. Not to talk of presidential candidates. https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/2016-election/campaign-finance/&ved=2ahUKEwiV3aKv6Kf3AhWV63MBHfPLDQcQFnoECAsQAQ&usg=AOvVaw1yZ0Uj6AE6LRQx593VDc5A Plus the candidates are supposed to raise this money from people backing their aspiration. It is a very good way of testing the popularity of the candidates, there readiness for the main election and narrowing down the field 2 Likes |

Good candidates like Ken Nnamani may not be able to pay that N100m because he did not steal much. As a former senate president, there was no issue or record of him stealing public funds. So where will he see N100 million. The price is totally absurd. Even N50 million was too much. |

This comparison is not relevant fr. To fund election isn't a child's play. Nigeria presidential election campaign cost is in the north of 50 billions ( a party spent 35+billion nair in 2015 election ) , if as a candidate you can't raise 100m for your nomination form then go home. Comparing Texas or even Alaska to Nigeria is a dumb for real. Read more on America electioneering and you we know that APC form price is child play. Do you know in the USA citizens pay 'special tax' to fund the political parties candidate ? ~$ 200 ( #85,000 ) is paid by US citizens to bankrolled their candidates and this money is different from the donors committee oo... APGA was allegedly said to have spend 2.5 billion naira to fund the last election in Anambra State, so if a State election cost that much imagine what the presidential election would cost. |

A vote for either of the 2 is a vote against Nigerians since politicians defects to whatever is in power! We don't need party representative to protect our votes,we can do it by ourselves. Now, election can be transmitted via electronic means, then we will use the internet to monitor and compare with the final results! Shikena! We will choose any candidate that have mind to challenge this wicked lots I think Sowore! Penguin2: |

desas:that's not true let's look at it.. in America political campaigns are more expensive than in Nigeria... They do fund raising for elections unlike here where pple relied on money bags... Again how many party members are faithful to pay dues... I learnt APC dues is 2400 annually that's poor if u ask... Now tel me where u expect party to get funds for campaign if tickets are cheap... If they ask u guys to donate for campaign u ll still shout corruption... See politics no cheap ooo na money u go take do adverts mobilize pple... Polling agent on day of elections go collect at least 10k calculate am times over 3000 polling unit in Nigeria and see how expensive elections are... If we want reduction in Party tickets like America we review our electoral laws... Candidates should raise funds for elections subject to INEC supervision... Then members should be faithful to pay Party dues too... 1 Like |

Such a jaundiced brain. To you poverty, suffering, pain is a norm. Excluding igbos from power, what has it benefited you. My problem in being in same contraption with such deluded ignorant fellas like you. That Nigeria is retrogressing does not mean that the world is waiting or static. I weep for you, I weep for your likes, I weep for Nigeria. ElohimShenRa: |

Nomination form shouldn't cost more than 6 months salary of the post being contested for,..... I even think that is way too much sef. Of course when they started with 20plus million, we didn't say anything anyway. 1 Like |

APC & PDP are crazy parties There should be other metrics like medical tests, psychometric tests etc. Texas’s GDP is higher than that of Nigeria yet they want looters to cough out 100 million naira |

Tribalism won't let Nigeria grow. The political parties know these and they are banking on it. If only sowore was a northerner he would have won the election easy, but no, we are divided. |

Sovereignty belongs to the people of USA from whom government derives all its powers and authority, but here in Nigeria, the reverse is the case. |

jmoore: You make excellent points and I wholeheartedly agree that the prices of nomination forms are ridiculous and disenfranchise otherwise eligible young men and women from participating. However, it is highly unlikely that a politician in the US wins at the state or national level if not from either major party. There is the occasional independent candidate, but a lot of them got their first major win as a Rep or Dem, then chose to be independent. I could be wrong. This does not take from the fact that what you posted is absolutely true. And to those comparing total campaign cost, don't forget to add the cost of campaigning in Nigeria. This is in addition to the nomination form. |
