.I will be dropping day by day or week by week activities on the farm as I start the journey of cultivating 25 Acres of maize farm land.

On the 4th of April, 2022 N250,000 was paid to Baale and Omo onile (land owners) as one year rent for the 10 Hecters of land I e N25,000 per Hecter.

They are doubting the price because they have never hired tractors before. Does tractor run on water? The diesel they use is now N800 per litre, up from N290 in September 2021. Only those actively farming know the cost of inputs. The rest know nothing.

No, it's just for ploughing alone. In Benue state, it's 10 to 15k per day.

it's obvious you don't know the different between a hectare and a plot.
A hectare is 15plots..
That's what a tractor collect 20k to plough.?with this current high cost of diesel.
mind you plough is more expensive than harrow..

Today's update on 10 Hecters of maize cultivation

Planting of maize stared yesterday. (30/4/22)

The seed we are planting is called SEEDCO (Hybrid seed)
The price is N1700 per KG and we are using 200k for the 10 Hecters, that will give us 1700 x 200 = N340k

Labourer that is doing the planting charged N10,000 per Hecter which gives us N100k for the 10 Hecters

Next update will be spraying of chemicals which will be coming soon.

You can harvest as many as, they come to the farm to carry it themselves

I have been making the mistake of one crop (potatoes) until I intercropped with maize last year, this year I'm repeating the intercropping.

@ kedoty. Good job boss. On the update, I was expecting Pioneer for the seeds, have you used this seedco before? , which particular seedco number? I have heard of it too.

As regards the planting, why opting for manual labour as against the planter machine? Any reasons.

If you want to go big inter cropping maize and cassava is not a good move , if you are working on 10 hectares and target 2 circle planting then it's very good to stay on Maize alone as Cassava inter cropped with Maize will make management of the Maize poor and the plan of 2 circle will not work.

Then again if you got a tractor at this time for 25k on 1 hectare I will advice you stick with which ever person gave such price because with the recent price of diesel prices now range between 35-40k for hectare with high connection can one get 30k things are really high this year for farmers you need to really plan well

Even the prices of chemical is not smiling nor prices of fertilizer and if you don't use fertilizer no need going big cos there will definitely be uneven or poor yield and if you use manual weeding on a large scale you will increase your labour cost and reduce your profitability so this time deep planing is required to make excellent profit
