ChocolateWine: Your 1st 2 lines made sense....after then the rest are blinded with bias DID JESUS CHRIST READ THE BIBLE? Christmas (CHRIST MASS) celebration occur when the Roman Catholic church saw the need to enlighten people about the birth, life and works of Christ....they decided to hold that mass on a fixed date. JESUS CHRIST DID SO WELL TO COVER FOR THE UNFORSEEN DEAD ARGUMENT BY SAYING WE ALL HIS FOLLOWERS HAVE THE CAPACITY TO FUNCTION LIKE HE DID (AND EVEN GREATER). Jesus Christ lived for just 33yrs... remember that |

Church is a social gathering. The most wicked people I know are always in church. Church is not the building but the people, so you can have a church in your house, the fellowship is the most important thing and you can have that with 2 or 3 people. It's a sin to go to church where the pastor doesn't know you by name. Every church should not be more than 50 people. I was raised Anglican on father's side, uncle was the church organist and grandfather the reverend. Baptist on mother's side but never worshipped there. As a child I saw how everything would be all nice and rosy on Sunday morning and as soon as church is over, on the way home, all you would be hearing are big curses from different angles. And now the so called Winners and Rccgs of the world have no relationship with the God of the Bible, the pastor is their god. They are mean, selfish, vengeful and full of hate. Yes I will go to church in future after over 7 years for the drama and social life but my spirituality will always be taking care of by myself with my family and friends at home. |

ikorodureporta:A bible believing church should preach and teach only what is in the bible, not man-made doctrines. It should not follow Christmas, Easter, Halloween, or birthdays. The only time birthdays are mentioned in the bible is in relation to evil people. Mark 6:21-24. There are no verses that state that any holy man celebrated his birthday. A real church teaches that there is only one God and His name is Jesus. There is no trinity. If The Father and the Son are two different persons and The Holy Ghost is a 3rd person, What position does The Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit hold in this family unit? Paul says this in Galatians: Galatians 1:1 Paul, an apostle, not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead; 2 And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia: 3 Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, Why no mention of the Holy Ghost? No trinity. Why is it that every time Ezekiel and John saw the Throne of God, they never mention seeing The Holy Ghost? Or a third throne? Where is The Holy Ghost seated? Beside Jesus? A true church should observe Saturday as the Sabbath. The catholic church has admitted that the sabbath was changed to Sunday, contrary to God's commandment. The day begins at sunrise and not sunset as taught by Adventists. This is why the Passover lamb was consumed in the evening and none was supposed to be eaten in the morning but burnt with fire. The morning was a new day, not the Passover. A sunset to sunset 24 day would include the morning but would be illogical and not fit in with God's directive. https://most-accurate-bible.com https://mewe.com/join/nigeriaisawthelightministries https://www.isawthelightministries.com/menu/light-darkness.html |

ChocolateWine: Jesus will say "Depart from me, I know you not" to many of these so called christians. They're not of the church He started. Nothing is wrong with a christian politician. Some biblical rulers were christians. When Jesus returns He will rule all. The closest interpretation for God's name is Theos. Tithing is still needed. There is no proof that it was abolished. Malachi 3:8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. https://www.isawthelightministries.com/tithes.html |

Adeebiwa09: 1. PurgatoryFirst of all what do we mean by purgatory? All who die in God’s grace, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation; but after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven. Scripture is very clear when it says, “But nothing unclean shall enter [heaven]” (Rev. 21:27). Jesus also shows there is some sort of forgiveness in the next world when he said in Matthew 12:32 “whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come” Also purgatory wasn't initially from catholic church but from Jewish religion of which Jesus himself partly adhered to. from the Gospel of Luke is the greeting of the Angel Gabriel to Mary, originally written in Koine Greek. The opening word of greeting, χαῖρε (chaíre), here translated "hail", literally has the meaning "rejoice" or "be glad". This was the normal greeting in the language in which Saint Luke's Gospel is written and continues to be used in the same sense in Modern Greek. Accordingly, both "hail" and "rejoice" are valid English translations of the word ("hail" reflecting the Latin translation, and "rejoice" reflecting the original Greek). The word κεχαριτωμένη (kecharitōménē), here translated as "full of grace", admits of various translations. Grammatically, the word is the feminine perfect passive participle of the verb χαριτόω (charitóō), which means "to show, or bestow with, grace" and here, in the passive voice, "to have grace shown, or bestowed upon, one" 3. Ascension of MaryAs with the dogma of her Immaculate Conception, the dogma of the Assumption isn’t explicitly stated in Scripture. This was dogmatically defined by Pope Pius XII in 1950 in his encyclical, Munificentissimus Deus when he referred to many “holy writers who ... employed statements and various images and analogies of Sacred Scripture to illustrate and to confirm the doctrine of the Assumption....” He explained that he wasn’t manifesting a new doctrine but rather fulfilling his divine commission to “faithfully propose the revelation delivered through the Apostles.” The Church teaches that the dogma of the Assumption was at least implicitly present in Scripture and Apostolic Tradition and therefore is a legitimate sign of the “protection of the Spirit of Truth.” 4. Infant baptismBorn with a fallen human nature and tainted by original sin, children also have need of the new birth in baptism to be freed from the power of darkness and brought into the realm of the freedom of the children of God, to which all men are called. The sheer gratuitousness of the grace of salvation is particularly manifest in infant baptism. The Church and the parents would deny a child the priceless grace of becoming a child of God were they not to confer baptism shortly after birth. What if the child dies young? Romans 5:12 is remarkably clear on this point: Therefore as sin came into the world through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all men sinned. As we circumcise babies, we also baptise babies. In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of flesh in the circumcision of Christ. . . . You were buried with him in baptism (Col. 2:11-12). 5. ConfessionTherefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. James 5:16. The necessity of confession is discussed in many places in the New Testament (James 5:16; 1 John 1:9), although there is no direct evidence that confession had to be specific or detailed or that it had to be made to a priest. A detailed confession to a bishop or priest, however, appeared early in the church’s history 6. Doctrinal and ceremonial activities during service Eg the sign of the cross, gesticulation or something can't remember, knightingKnighting in not a Catholic doctrine. It's a European military tradition which only had religious connections during the European crusades in Israel to stop Muslims from colonising Israel. The soldiers were knighted by their Kings. Sign of the cross is biblical for the mere fact that its the cross of Jesus that washed away our signs. 7. 'Saint' and angel worship/adoration/idolizingCorinthians 1:2 To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours. Catholics don't worship saints. We ask them to remember us in their prayers. 8. Rosarythe words used in the rosary are in the bible and were first used by Angel Gabriel and Elizabeth. I already explained this above. 9. Celibacy of priests and Nunsthe fact that neither Jesus nor his Apostles married should already explain this practice. Those who married left their marriage to follow Jesus and so should those who want to be Apostles. The difference between Apostles and disciples is that non clergy are disciple while clergy are Apostles 10. Extra books in the bible Eg Judith, Macbeth, etcthis absolutely makes no sense since the first bible was a creation of the church based in Rome in AD 392 which you call the Catholic church. If your church removes those books from the bible then it is your bible that is incomplete and not the Catholic church. 11. Allowance unto certain actions like alcohol drinkingthe first miracle of Jesus was the creation of alcohol (John 2). Jesus used Alcohol during the last super with his Apostles. Here is the simple proof that Jesus drank wine at the last supper. Grapes ripen in the middle east in August. The last supper was in April and there was no refrigeration at that time, so it would have been impossible for Jesus to drink grape juice at the last supper. Cheers |

Razgas: Smile... Thanks for taking your time to explain these, as expected logic and inaccurate use of scriptures will be the go to place, anyways thanks for the effort. However, there are Discriptive and prescriptive verses of scriptures. As Christians there are yardsticks of accurate biblical interpretation and its essential that Bible is allowed to interpret itself. That something is inferred or seen in the Bible doesn't mean it should be a doctrine. As much as I have a biblical and logical response to everything you have mentioned I would only pick one. Purgatory, the bible is not vague about certain concepts Hebrews 9:27 KJV And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: Revelation 20:11-13 KJV And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. [12] And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. [13] And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 KJV For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: [17] Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. There is no place in scriptures that suggests even remotely that those who died will go to purgatory, beyond that I was told by my catholic friends that the people said to be in Purgatory depend on the prayers of those alive to qualify for heaven. I know somethings about Islam and I couldn't help but tie a connection between some Islamic believes and practices and those done in the Catholic Church. Meanwhile there is an historical perception that the "prophet Mohammed" was 'school' by catholic priests. Anyways, whatever is not prescriptive and confirmed to be clearly stated and also confirmed by two or more scriptures is suspect. Eg lent. Shalom |

Adeebiwa09:Lol...Lent is the fasting Jesus did for 40 days and 40 nights. Matthew 4:1-11 At that time Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. He fasted for forty days and forty nights and afterwards was hungry. The tempter approached and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become loaves of bread. I have showed you the bible verse for everything we do in Catholic Church (including purgatory where Jesus himself aluded to forgiveness after death. ) except the Ascension of Mary...which I accept is dogma proclaimed by a Pope. If you have a different interpretation of a bible verse from mine, how do we know who is wrong or right? Will that now qualify you to say that I or my church is not bible believing? Just because you have a different interpretation? How often do you hear catholic church saying some churches are not bible believing? |

Sixfiguresmart: If I may can I chuk mouth for the matter? I look forward to when you'll have your free time. However, the reason why Jesus is the perfect example for the believer is that he was 100% God and 100% man. In simple English he was perfect, you may see the imperfections of some of the men of God or their different perspectives but it doesn't define the church of christ. As long as we are in the flesh we are still a work in progress however do not allow the imperfection of a man make you miss the path of christ. Like Apostle Paul said, follow me as I follow christ, christ is the ultimate, when my pastor, Reverend, spiritual father, mentor, prophet etc stops following christ I should not follow him again. The problem most times is not the men of God but their congregation, we must not lose sight of christ irrespective of the reputation of the man we subscribe to, with that I can keep my gaze on Jesus and turn aside when the man of God has made an angular or lateral shift |

Razgas: Let me start by saying that when I saw the title of the thread I was very excited cos I have always disliked the idea of saying Bible believing church and have, like the OP, asked what is a Bible believing church. If I use what I considered as my yardstick I would say all churches are Bible believing or none is Bible believing. Cos the Bible is still what everyone uses but we many times add the traditions of men. Now about lent, I'm not ignorant of it, infact I'm not an active member of a penticostal church. I was born and bred and still attending an orthodox church as it is called. Let me make a small list of some practices done in church but not prescriptive or injunctions 1. Feet washing 2. Anointing oil (only prescribed for the sick in James) 3. Blood of sprinkling or holy water sprinkling 4. Lent To mention a few The only thing Jesus prescribe or said we should do like he did was the last supper, which is to be done as often as possible and I believe you know that what we now do as the Lord's supper or last supper is captured in Judaism as the feast of Passover, the difference is the frequency, time and element (Jews use lambs, Jesus used bread and wine). So there is no where that the disciples did the 40 days fast both when Jesus was alive and after he ascended. Did they fast, yes they did often if you considered what Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians but was it like what Jesus did no. He was led by the spirit to fast not by human orchestration. Am I against fasting? Not I do it very often |

Sparrk007: Is prophecy a bad thing or not scriptural both in the old and new testaments? Your comment is ambiguous and may need clarification Yes fetish, many are but not all. The church didn't even start as a church but a prayer and evangelical group that's why it is still called aladura (prayer people or person) till tomorrow. But in the course of winning souls especially those of the occultic who had turned their back on their practices, after the death of the founder and when they were not able to replicate some of the miracles and stuff they turn back to their old ways, they were still in the church but were using diabolic and fetish means when they are confronted and exposed, they will leave and Start their own mostly with similar names but with fetish and unscriptural practices. It is worthy of note that their are also pentecostal pastors and prophets that are fetish but since white garments are seemingly representations of purity or faith, any Tom, dick and Harry does nonsense and they and the correct ones are put in the same class |
Re: " Go To A Bible-Believing Church" ...What Does It Mean?? by Nobody: 4:23pm On Apr 25, 2022 |
Adeebiwa09:well from your write up you have admitted that lent is in the bible because Jesus himself observed it. So let's leave it at that. Again I will say, all you mentioned in your first post as practices of the Catholic church is based on the Catholic church's interpretation of one or more scriptures (with the exception of Ascension of Mary). That you have a different interpretation of same bible verse or choose not to do a particular practice done by someone in the bible is entirely up to you. |
