This has profound effects on the State in terms of productivity.

Imagine a genuine startup entrepreneur running generators at home, office 95% of the whole year!!!

Whether APC or pdp that is your business, do not expect electricity, November 7th 2013 Jonathan mortgaged your electricity infrastructure to quacks for 25 years.

The Federal Government Claim they don’t have the $12 billion dollars to renege from the Agreement.

If Mumu Jonathan had gone to companies like ESKOM, Siemens GMBH in 2013, like President Buhari did in 2020, you would be singing a different tune today.

Jonathan messed you up, a bad tree can never yield good fruits, enjoy your privatization.

What was the track record of people like the Osibudus & Ayenis, late Captain Hosa in electricity before distribution companies were sold to them?

The reason why the big power companies did not come and invest (And siemens is investing by the way, just not in distribution)...is simple.

Nigerians like you do not want to pay the market price for power, and the privatization law signed by GEJ took that into account...power prices were kept too low for any sensible investor to come and invest in distribution.

So, we went with what we have. And the reason why things have not improved is simple. You cannot make power at the cost of 80-100 and above naira per kwh and sell the same thing at N51-71 per kwh and expect profits enough to fix things.

It's not GEJ's fault...you Nigerians have to be willing to pay market price for power...same way you pay market prices for GSM services....which is why we have home internet and can make calls from home domestic and internantional.

Nuclear power plant is the best solution.
When combine with the existing power plant Nigeria will have excess electricity to sell to neighboring countries
...
Those old generation in power don't know jack. They only interested in stealing public funds and stocking it up for their future generation. So tell me why won't Whites abuse black man even if they aren't suppose to do so because Africa gave them everything.

Jonathan & pdp sold your electricity infrastructure to quacks, do not expect any electricity in future.

Don’t blame me, just name just one reputable company that purchased any of your electricity infrastructure from pdp?

Privatisation is never a solution. Sadly our incompetent rulers already sold us the lie. And the masses bought the lie. Nothing we change until we hold our office holders accountable for their actions and inactions

1.Government running the thing didn't make it better. For most of my life, NEPA ran power, and did a bad job of it.

2.It costs and may cost a lot of money...far more than what we earn from oyel and loans, to get 24 hour power.

3.Privatisiaiton worked for the telecoms sector...we went from 300000 lines under NITEL to nearly 100 million lines under the GSM privatisaiton.

4.The problem is, government in privatising power kept the right to set prices...and kept them below what it costs to produce power..and thus many power companies run at a loss...and if they do not reject power, their debt would shoot shoot up.

That is the inferiority mentality black man must do away with. It is possible. We have large expanse of uninhabited land where the nuclear plant can be sited and train our personnel and employ services of other expert to manage the plant.

Essentially, the DISCOS are not making enough money from end users to pay for excess power

1.Cost of power is too low due to tarrifs being kept below the cost of production(and the subsidy paid cannot cover the losses...even with subsidies, DISCOS still need an extra trillion naira)

2.30% of subscribers do not even pay for the power they use...government, rich and poor.

At the end, DISCOS have to reject power, or go into more debt.

Nigeria has to pay for power at the market price for all this to end. You want power, then pay the money for it.
They need to supply consumers first then see if they won't pay if the light is good
You can't be selling darkness's,imagine there was no light for the past 3 months until the last 5 day,how do you expect us to pay? We spent about 12.6 million on diesel during those period and you want us to pay PHCN
Let me tell you something,PHCN won't even need to rely on citizens if the light is okay, companies alone are enough to pay whatever amount they need

The only thing Fashola could have done was persuade Buhari to allow the DISCOS and GENCOS set the prices they charge for power, not government via NBET.

But that's not politically popular, so it was not done.

(As for reversing the privatisation, Buhari asked his AG for advice, and AG told him that 'a contract is a contract', and if he broke the contract, Nigeria would be on the hook for hundreds of billions of naira. And challenging it at court is instant loss.)

Privatisation is the solution, just not done correctly because there is no supervision. There should be a law against power outage beside I don't think electricity in Africa will ever be okay till we go Nuclear

And how would they improve supply? With 66% of consumers paying and with tarrifs kept below the cost of production, and with all of them running at a loss?

How do you think we have good GSM servicies?. It isn't because MTN brought money to build it for us, it is because all of them started by selling SIM at N10000 or more....and used the excess profit to build all the antenna and miles of cable....

It costs money to improve generation, etc etc....and the DISCOS and GENCOS don't have it.

In every business you have to render service before people can pay for it,they need to find money from wherever like MTN you are talking about did, then ask people to pay for it
You use profit to expand business not to start business,MTN did not use sim card fund to start business
And it should be sold if they can not fund it

And what you guys need to understand is

1.DISCOS and GENCOS are not making a profit. (It's not a lie, see the PwC report 'Solving the liquidity crunch in the power sector, see page below)...because government forces them to sell at a loss.

It costs over N80 to produce one kwh of power. We pay for that power at N51-71 per kwh, meaning losses for the DISCOS at between N10-30 per kwh sold.

2.On top of that, a significant number of Nigerians DO NOT PAY FOR THE POWER THEY USE. (Also true.)

3.The thing about GSM...you cannot use a phone without paying. The good old days of cheats are over, and airtime has to be paid for. Power...you can bypass the meter, among other things.

We can have working refineries, if we stop subsidising fuel, and allow NNPC and the marketers to sell fuel at market price.

But we want something that costs over N400 to make (a liter of petrol, at current crude prices) to be sold at N162-5 naira, meaning that it does not make sense to refine fuel at home (unless you are Dangote, or an illicit fuel refinery owner, whose costs are low, and even then, they won't sell below N200)

Depends on the band you live in

I live in the FCT. I moved from an area that got 6-8 hours of light to one that gets 18-20 hours of light. Even then, I pay higher for power per kwh than I did for the 6-8 hour area.

Seems you are just running around in circles with your comments..
You said reversing the sale of privatized companies would have cost Nigeria..
I gave you an instance where such was done and the heavens didn't fall..
Whether Dangote would have made a success of it or not is besides the point..

I daresay the heavens did not fall because the terms of that contract allowed Yaradua to do what he did. The terms of the contract with the DISCOS and GENcos don't allow for that.

Differing contracts.

Whether Dangote would have made a success of it or not is besides the point..
After all..
Is it not the same Dangote that has almost finished a Refinery?
So,what has changed?

1.It is one thing to build a refinery, it is another to generate the funds to run it well.

2.Dangote was able to build his refinery via loans from banks (most of the cash) plus 3 billion dollars of his own money.(Bnaks gave him the loan because if he fails to pay up...they can get money from his other assets to pay themselves....then AMCON makes life much easier....)

3.And like I said in 1)....he has to pay for maintenance, upgrades, etc. And if he cannot sell fuel at a profit from that refinery, problem will start.

You cannot make fuel above N250 and sell it at N162 AND have profit to pay for maintenance, upgrades, etc.
