The last generation of Nigerians ( your parents) are the ones enjoying Nigeria, that is because immediately after Nigerian independence, they were employed into the newly formed government parastatals and the civil services, till today many of them are still in the civil services and government parastatals enjoying government perks and salaries, those who didn't get government jobs, went to work with private companies that the colonial government left behind e.g first bank, Unilever etc.

You see the last generations who are mostly working in all these organizations are enjoying lot of perks like stable salaries, car loans, housing allowances, mortgages, promotions, newspaper allowances and health insurance and other pecks, that has helped them live a comfortable life, they can send their children and relatives to school, buy lands and live a good life.

Unfortunately, their children will not be able to enjoy those pecks, with more population comes few opportunities, with the population boom comes more troubles, at the moment, it is difficult for an educated young Nigerian to get into the civil services or private organizations to earn a good living, now this generation will have to suffer because of the lack of progressive ideas to help create jobs, that means, many young Nigerians will be without jobs and money to uplift their lives and also to create a family, some of these young Nigerians won't be able to afford land or a house because they don't have a enough money, many won't have assets because the bank won't give them, if they have children, they won't be able to go to good schools, literally, the youth have no financial future, you will see more young people staying with their parents, more financial crime like yahoo yahoo will be in the increase and ritual killings plus prostitution, increase in drug use, depression and sucide. To be realistic, the future is sad and depressing for many young Nigerians

The solution to Nigeria’s problems starts with taxing the rich and using the raised funds to focus on mass education. Education does not stop at Maths and English, but also includes sports, arts such as singing and acting, etc.

The first leader who focuses on taxing our rich parents to better the lives of our generation would write his or her name in gold.

To expect anyone born before 1980 to bring about positive change to is extremely foolish.

Thebosstrevor1, you have said the sad truth. But what do you mean by the next generation? Is Nigeria not already hell on earth for even those you refer as enjoying pecks of office?

Do they live in another world? Is it not this same highly insecure country where no where is safe that they live in? What's the usefulness of riches with the rising insecurity?

Truly there's no hope for this country.

This is the reason why Igbos want out. To go away tail between the laps, wounded, used, abused, raped and denied, to their own small country and build it from the scratch.

Whether they would succeed or not is their problem. But let us from this hopeless point you speak of, go our separate ways and take our destinies into our own hands, for the sake of our unborn.

Your entire post was matter of factly, gory and should scare anyone who is truthful. No where did you see any array of hope in the situation.

Coming from a fulani, this is very instructive.

It's sad how Nairaland has evolved. There use to be sensible discussion on this forum.

Unfortunately, Seun and his moderators would, unbelievably, allow some tribalism and other sensitive post to get to the home page all because of the display ad revenue they will generate.

the more educated female children are, the fewer the number of children they produce in general. this is why quality basic education in Nigeria would go a long way in improving our economic situation.

So far Nigeria cannot generate and distribute electricity, poverty and suffering will never stop. Natural gas which is our largest source of energy is a commodity, so it's price is universal globally. its price is the same in Nigeria as it is in the United States.

We do not have Electricity in Nigeria because the Unit cost to produce electricity is prohibitively high and the government would be forced to pay subsidies on its citizens consumption.

The only way I can think of to reduce the unit cost of electricity is to strengthen the Naira versus the dollar. this can be achieved in two ways:

1. increase production leading to reduced imports and increased exports: but for the need of affordable power, this would have been the best solution. may be we can use power in more efficient ways.

2. reduce the disposable incomes of richer Nigerians, thus reducing the level of imports into the country. this can be achieved in two ways:

a. devaluing the Naira, but this would lead to higher unit cost of electricity, so productivity would be harder to achieve. this is Nigeria's current path.

b. Raise Taxes on the rich on items such as housing and cars. taxes must also be progressive. the bigger the house, the higher the tax. the higher the number of cars, the higher the tax rate. this would discourage importation and would lead to a higher value of the naira. funds generated can be used to fund quality education which would naturally force our birth rate downwards, thus ensuring a much more prosperous future for Nigerians.

ps.
the rich can see this as a process of fattening a cow for slaughter. if you do not feed your cattle you would not get quality meat. if you do not provide your poor with high quality education, you will not have electricity, productivity, security and other amenities modern life has to offer.
